Publisher's summary

One night. No strings. And a really good puck.

Five years ago, Astrid O’Malley experienced the ultimate in public humiliation.

Being dumped at the altar by her childhood sweetheart was horrifying enough.

That fact that he was a professional hockey goalie and her dad was his coach? It was all anyone in sports could talk about.

Eff hockey. Eff goalies.

These days, Astrid lives a life (mostly) free of hockey and free to pursue whoever she wants with exactly zero shame in her game. Like tonight’s hook-up. This guy’s nailed the lumberjack aesthetic perfectly. Especially when he has the stamina and creativity to back it up.

Because the rule is: it’s one night only. Which is gonna be a problem because she’s just discovered he lives in the apartment upstairs.

And he’s joined her dad’s team. As the goalie coach. To train her ex.

Now Astrid is in some kind of hockey hell—filled with her ex, her family, and the best sex of her life. And somehow she’s been roped back onto the team. Puck my life.

Fast-paced, humorous, steamy, and emotional.

4.5/5 Stars

I have been looking forward to this book since the author hinted at the premise of the book in one of her newsletters. I am such a stalker for this author. I adored the first book in this series and Avery Flynn's brand of romantic comedy is my cup of tea.

I can always count on a good time when I pick up one of Flynn's books. Flynn was actually the one to coax me to the dark side, ahem, I mean Romancelandia. Back in the day, I mostly stuck to fantasy or science fiction books but the blurb for one of Flynn's books really resonated with me and I had to pick it up. Several years later (and several rereads of that first book that started it all) I am a bonafide romance fangirl.

Flynn's relatable writing style and signature humor won me over back then and still keep me returning today. The plot of this book was entertaining and kept me hooked the entire time.

Astrid and Cal were so easy to connect with. They were complex characters with fleshed-out backgrounds and vibrant and distinct personalities. The character growth in this book was amazing. I adored all of the secondary characters as well. They were all a huge group of found family that brought so much depth to the story. Some characters piqued my interest and I am hoping that they get their own love stories one day. Cal's sisters and then the surprising match from the end of the book.

I loved getting to see some of the characters from Flynn's other books living their happily ever afters. Getting to see Zach and Fallon, Frankie and Lucy, Ford, and Finn and the numerous children and pets was glorious! I love it when past characters make cameos in other books.

Astrid and Cal had chemistry for days. They had an undeniable connection that blazed hot and heavy. They couldn't keep their hands off of each other or keep from thinking about the other. I loved the small gifts and things that Cal did to let Astrid know that he was thinking of her. It was so sweet and melted my heart. Astrid was a bit stubborn in the beginning but with her past it is understandable. It was a great moment when Cal figured out what he really wanted in life and the lengths he went to to get it.

If I am being honest, I expected a bit more angst in this story. I was imagining more of a love triangle or a jealous ex situation but it never went in that direction. I am not disappointed with the resolution in the book or the way that things played out in the end but I wish there would have been a tad more angst concerning Astrid's ex.

I listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed the production. The voice actors were a great fit for these characters and put on a great performance.

Overall, this was a fast-paced, humorous, steamy, and emotional romance set in the world of hockey that delivered one heck of a good time. I loved that this love story was true to the characters and the HEA wasn't traditional but still ultimately satisfying. If hot romcoms are your jam then this author should definitely be on your radar. I can't wait for the next release!

Walk of shame

Performance was good to me. I gave a three rating because of the ending of story. I was hoping through the story the best friend would be book three. I did not like who the best friend ended up with. I did not buy into the new best friends story. I also thought very sad no marriage and having cats instead of family. The complete out of blue ending ruined the story for me.

😍😍😍

I was so excited to read this! I absolutely loved Anger Bang, the first book in the series, and couldn’t wait for this one. And I was not disappointed! This was so much fun! I had to laugh every time Cal and Astrid’s competitiveness kicked in. The way they went at each other, in more ways than one 😉, was entertaining & fun. Their chemistry was sizzling. And his sweetness was off the chart.
I completely loved listening to Robert Hatchet & Savannah Peachwood narrate this. They made it so fun!
Loved loved loved this!! I cannot wait for the next one!

It was ok

I didn’t think it was as good as Anger Bang. I have enjoyed many books by Avery Flynn. This one just didn’t seem as developed and as entertaining as the others. I struggled to get through it.

Grow the eff up!

It’s 2024. Can we PLEASE be done with books where the ADULT MCs have NO emotional intelligence?! The FMC has been in therapy for years goodness sake and she’s still acting like an adolescent! Insulting to therapy and embarrassing for the character. The FMC had a terrible experience and then, instead of growing, had a five year tantrum. She’s supposedly close to her friends and dad but they not only indulged but encouraged her behavior. Ugh.
And then who the ex ends up with?!?! Nope.
Anger Bang was pretty good, the author is a good writer for sure, but the plot of this one is terrible. If you like strong and smart characters, real friends, true mental health rep skip this one.
