Publisher's summary

My name is Thea, and I’m a monster hunter. Or a monster, depending on who you ask….

Someone is hunting the shifters of Hollowmore and I’m the only one that can stop the killing. My name is Thea: monster hunter, daughter of the most powerful Arcanshifter and, since leaving my clan, the ultimate outsider.

My only ally, Marcus, is even more of an outsider than me. If anyone learns he’s a dragon shifter, the tattered remains of his clan will be wiped out. The last thing he wants is to risk exposure by helping me. The last thing I want is trouble with dragons–or the distraction of his smoldering eyes.

But a young dragon shifter is one of the latest victims, so Marcus is involved whether he likes it or not. I guess we’re working together. This should be…interesting.

From the secret councils of the shifter clans to the slums of Goblin Town, I’ll turn over every rock in Hollowmore if I have to. Someone is killing my people.

And when I find them, I'm going to make them pay....

Another great listen by this author!

Having dealt with jacked-up vamps in the last book, I couldn't wait to see how a new mystery would unfold. I certainly wasn't ready for all the feels when it came to cursed youths. The fact that this case is also pro bono for all the clans just gives you a real sense of who Thea is. I also loved the way the case wrapped up. An excellent story and I can't wait for the next in the series.

Mysterious Ailments and Unruly Clans

Thea is back on the case and it is a doozy. There's an affliction going around the various shifter clans and no one knows the cause or the cure. I liked the mystery because it allowed Thea to learn more about the other clans and see a different viewpoint from her own upbringing. I liked getting to know more about the Claw shifter clan and their mythologies and traditions. Thea gets to grow a bit more in her sleuthing and her relationship with Marcus. Thea's brother gets to play a larger roll and I liked their sibling dynamic; it provided humor and normal sibling reactions.
My one gripe about the book is how Thea manages to blame herself for everything. It because a bit annoying after the 3rd time she did it and it didn't add anything to the story apart from making me roll my eyes. I can understand some of the blame, however I felt it was drawn out more than it needed to and made the story drag a bit.
I would absolutely love a chapter (or two!) from Marcus's perspective in this series! I wonder what he thinks of Thea always trying to do things on her own.

The story has language and some violence (nothing gory) and a slow burn romance.

I thought the narrator did a wonderful job again! She gave Thea wonderful personality and really translated Thea well from page to audio. I liked the differentiation between all the character voices, it was done quite well. There were a few instances where the narrating voice and the speaking voice were a little similar for my liking, but it didn't disrupt the flow of the story. I listened at 1.1x speed.

Can't stop listening

This is an interesting book about shifters and someone who is killing them. This is the 2nd book from the Thea Grove Vampire Hunter series. There is a dragon clan that isn't supposed to be here now. What else is happening.

Disappointing On Several Levels

I listened to the first book of this series, but that was some time ago. Unfortunately, the author did little world-building at the beginning of this book (or throughout)--so much so that I found myself confused about who everyone was, the different races (and the conflicts between them), and the struggles/conflicts of the greater world for far too long. As such, my enjoyment of the twists and turns of this book's plot seemed nonsensical and hard to follow at times. Honestly, I didn’t feel like I “got it” until the last hour of the book! I appreciate that paranormal worlds are complex, but that makes it more important for the author to show us that world so that we can understand it so we can better appreciate what is at stake and what is going on. I also didn’t like the narrator at all. I found her voice grating, harsh, and hard to listen to for any length of time. In fact, I had to periodically stop and listen to something else before I could tolerate more of her voice. So, on just about every level, I found this a disappointing audiobook experience.

Depressing

I like it when a heroine takes responsibility for her actions, and becomes self reflective about the morality of them. But the story was giving her too many opportunities to blame herself. It ended with me feeling just a little depressed. I’m not sure if I will continue with the series.
