Publisher's summary

Nobody puts Quinn in a corner.

Quinn

Just six years old when my brother was snatched off the street, I grew up in the aftermath of tragedy. While other kids were happily playing in the sandbox, I was hiding under press conference podiums listening to my parents beg for Jake’s safe return. People ask if I’m screwed up after what happened, and I never know how to respond. Life after the kidnapping is all I’ve ever known. Well, that and being the youngest brother to a rock star. Jake was the ultimate survivor. The prodigal son. My king.

But I’m not that worshipful kid anymore, and I’m tired of walking a step behind. I’ve got the talent. I’ve got the drive. And now, I’m coming for Jake’s throne.

Jess

What to do with a runaway rock star in my passenger seat?

Jess of yore would’ve jumped at the chance. Hell, she’d already be in his lap by now. She was fearless and fun and sexy. She lived like there was no tomorrow...until tomorrow came calling and delivered her an ultimatum: repent or risk losing it all. And so, responsible Jess was born, the good girl who paid her rent, and watered her plants, and put others before herself.

The new, improved version of myself represented stability and a roof overhead. Yet, sometimes... sometimes, I missed that reckless girl. Wild Jess. God, she’d been so fun. And now, Quinn was here, built like a god and asking me to play. One mindless afternoon of fun. Surely I could spare that for a future rock legend. I could bring old Jess back for just one day.

What could possibly go wrong?

I can’t get enough!!!

I know I have thought this about every book in the Cake series but… this one may just be my favorite one yet!!! I swear J. Bengtsson keeps getting funnier, more creative and more inspiring with every story she writes. It truly amazes me that she has not run out of amazing ideas after this many books, the woman is truly gifted!!!

I really LOVED Quinn’s and Jess’ personalities and stories. I literally read it in 2 long sittings, I couldn’t put it down. I laughed out loud so many times, I LOVED every second of it!! I will definitely be reading/listening to this book again and again as my default go-to. The Cake series is my absolute favorite of all the hundreds of books I have read and NEXT IN LINE reminds me again of exactly why!!

On top of that you add in 2 of Audible’s most loved narrators to sprinkle in their flavors and you absolutely CAN NOT GO WRONG with this selection!

Very relatable and enjoyable book!! I have been telling everyone I talk to about it, just so I can keep reliving it! I truly can not get enough of this book!!

Awesomeness for Quinn

I don’t write reviews. So forgive me.
This book was fantastic. I didn’t want it to end. There is rivalry between Quinn and Jake that had been developing in the the earlier books. It was fascinating tone to see how Quinn and Jake were going to deal with that. Quinn’s story is of him finding his girl, himself, his own way and way to succeed as a musician.
Although I feel this could be a standalone I 100% recommend reading the series (or at the very least Cake and Cale the Newlyweds)before reading this book
Jill knocked it out of the park for Quinn. (Thank you Lady!!) I loved this book!!!!!

Loved it! Not what I expected so much better!

Like everyone of her books, I just can't put them down. Spent the whole day listening and just love how she brought the family together again and worked through Quinn and Jake's relationship. Great characters, great humor and a great story told well! The two narrators are absolute gold and were perfect for this book. Bravo another great addition to the perfect series!

Outstanding!!!

I feel like I’ve been waiting for Quinn’s story forever and to say it was worth the wait is the understatement of the decade. I have read all of Bengtsson’s books and this one takes the cake (pun intended)! This author’s writing style is exceptional and she has a way of presenting each story in a new and fresh way. I devoured this book from the first line. Loved Quinn and Jess’ meet cute. They were so beautifully matched and well-suited for one another and watching their story unfold was such a treat! Stellar narration from two of the best around. I couldn’t recommend this book enough. FIVE STARS all around...don’t miss this one!

Gave me a Book Hangover! <3 <3

J. Bengtsson truly has a gift for writing and telling a story. This addition to the Cake Series was wonderful and made me fall in love with the McKallister family all over again. This book has all the feels and hit every emotion for me. Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt are so perfect as well! DEFINITELY hard to put down , You may find yourself binge listening like I did! Sad to reach the end because I want the story to go on. This one will be a re-listen for sure!

So worth it!

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Cake series is how the author explores the impact of a single tragic event on every member of a tight-knit average family. In particular, each character seems to be somewhat unaware of the experiences of everyone else. That’s so true of how we view our own tragedies—we find it hard to see beyond our own pain to that of those closest to us.

I have been looking forward to Quinn’s story, but the first hour or two I struggled. Quinn was kind of whiny and Jess’s job, which she loved, was, well, kind of predatory. I’m so glad I stuck it out because the characters grew quickly into people I admire. Quinn realized his potential as a hero & Jess revealed her strength and tenacity. The narrators, as always, are perfection.

Not what I expected

OK I went into this book very skeptical, let's all agree that these book have been drawn out and way to sad IJS. But pleasantly surprised this turned out to be lighthearted and I enjoyed it very much! Not sure if I'll listen to it again but I enjoyed it.

Angel Tours

Bengtsson has created a dream set of rockstar with softer hearts and steely courage. What a fabulously sexy talented this McKallister clan is. After having gone through a horrendous tragedy when the boys were young, Jake got the larger share of attention while others, like Quinn, were left terrified and hanging to the pants of the father's leg. That scene itself would break your heart 😰
Now they're grown up but are still carrying the broken shards of psyche within, all he while Presenting a normal façade on public.
But there's hurt buried deep within which refuses to go away and the pressure is becoming too much to bear.
Bengtsson catches the perfect mood of melancholy and frustration with her carefully word prose. Her treatment is sympathetic, healing process becomes the focal point as compassionate Jess is introduced. Though she's the elusive Jesse-rella, being searched for by the Rock-Prince Quinn McKallister, it's the Princess who saves the prince with unquestionable loyalty and forever support.
I'm deeply involved with this clan now and will focus on the rest of the family now, one by one.
The narrators are the Queen Andi Arndt and Zachary's gravelly undertones provide a new dimension to the tortured soul
Bang up narration was such a pleasure listening to it

Great Series. Next In Line is the best one yet.

To get the most out of it though, you need to read the series in order. It’ll be worth it.
