Publisher's summary

With death lurking at every corner, love becomes more important than ever.

The fierce warriors of Black Isle are used to living with the threat of war hanging above their heads at all times. They work hard to survive and celebrate even harder.

Shifters of various types must band together to defeat their numerous enemies, yet they never forget that life and love is precious and to grab happiness wherever they can find it. After all, any given day could be their last.

Claimed by the King

When a young human woman is offered up as a human sacrifice to the mysterious inhabitants of the Black Isles, she assumes she’ll be a slave, and life as she knows it will be over. She’s half correct. Her life will change completely, but King Broc, who claims her as his mate, isn’t the brutish captor she expected him to be.

The Soldier and the Siren

The Merfolk are the Isles’ natural enemy; have been for generations. When General Teaq comes across a mermaid inside Black Isle territory, he knows he must capture her. But there’s something about the mysterious woman that gives him pause. Their respective peoples are at war, but hate is the last thing on their minds.

A Dragon’s Treasure

The Isles are on the brink of war, and newly appointed general, Rhea, knows she must summon her secret weapon. The dragon that slumbers underneath the castle is their only hope to defeat the vast numbers of enemy fighters headed to their shores. But dragons are fickle creatures. Will she be able to reason with him and convince him to support her cause?

The Warlock’s Conquest

Ever since Ferris’ sister was taken by the barbarians that live on the Black Isles, he’s been planning his revenge. Years later, he’s finally leading a troop of warriors to liberate her, only to discover that perhaps he’s been on the wrong side of this conflict all along.

Get The Collection For The Full Series Experience

I haven't listened to a book from this author in a while. Can't think of a better way to fix that then to listen to this collection. Each of the books are just over three hours a piece. This is good for you if you only have a few hours a day to get some listening pleasure in. If you like fantasy with a mixture of romance and suspense then this would be a good choice.

Mr. Turner may be listed as a narrator but here he becomes a storyteller. You could almost picture him sitting around with the young adults of the village and letting them know about the history of the Black Isle. He doesn't try to impersonate a female which I think was a good thing because this is not a story that you want to laugh at the man who is telling us a tale. And I would certainly look forward to listening to him again.

What's good about getting the collection as opposed to buying each book separately is that you can easily go from one book to the next. You will want to do that anyway since it's the best way to enjoy the series. Plus, the book that follows builds on the story before it. It's a great way to get lost in a world that doesn't exist but the author does a great job in getting you to believe that at one time maybe they did. It's one that I can see being listened to more than once.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Four stories in one

This is the first time I have listened to a book by this author. The stories are interconnected and relay a different aspect to the setting of the Black Isle. This recording contains four books in one set that chronicle the lives of the warriors of Black Isle who are constantly on their guard for fear of an impending war where they will have to fight to survive. They are not full length works and feel a little abrupt when you realize that the story has ended but they are engaging to listen to. The narrator took a little warming up to as he needed to find a balance as he was articulating the different characters with relation to the storyline which improved as each story progressed. The main draw was the accent that one can get lost in and the pacing felt natural to give the characters a more life like quality. The first story, “Claimed by the King,” has a young woman being offered up as a sacrifice to adhere to a contract made between the humans and the ‘savages.’ The second story, “The Soldier and the Siren,” for some reason, kept giving me flashbacks to The Little Mermaid with Ariel falling for the prince. The third story, “A Dragon’s Treasure,” begs the question as to whether or not the dragon will awaken and join those who are requesting his assistance. The fourth and final story, “The Warlock’s Conquest,” Ferris is on a mission to get his revenge on those who took his sister. If you are looking for a magical world full of shifters, then this is one to add to your collection. I look forward to hearing more of the paranormal world this author designs.

Engaging Series

These were great to listen to! The stories were engaging and the narrator did a fabulous job! You definitely have to start at the beginning of the series and go from there since each book builds on the previous and picks up either the same day the other book ends, or in some cases it back tracks a couple days and then the timelines coincide.

Story Order

I liked the stories but I think you should have ordered them differently. After the first one, the second was like listening to the first from a different perspective.

Black Isle Secrets!!!!

" I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this boxset. "

I enjoyed reading each stories and the characters' journey to happiness. Every eight years, there was a human sacrifice but nowhere in the book was a human appearance. I would have liked to see more of Kelley's power and maybe a collaboration of all their powers in the last battle. Overall, it was a good read.
