Publisher's summary

Melanie Hirsch is tired of watching life pass her by….

I’ve spent the last few years watching my dreams of a writing career and true love fade away, settling for a dead-end job and denying my feelings for my best friend—until I find a list of dating advice for single women to “find a husband” in the 1950s. I decide to experiment: Try out the 1950s advice on my 21st-century dating pool and write about the results. If love is timeless, some of the dating advice still holds value. Maybe my experiment will launch my writing career. Maybe I’ll get over my best friend and meet someone new. Either way, I’m done watching from the sidelines.

Cameron Whitacre can’t wait forever….

I’ve spent the last few years in love with my best friend, hoping she’ll notice my friendly overtures have more than friendly intentions—but before I realize what’s happening, she declares me her wingman for a dating experiment. This idea could launch her writing career, so I’m trying to be supportive. But her experiment turns my life into a desperation-fueled dumpster fire. I need to show her how I feel without jeopardizing our friendship, all before she falls for someone else.

Book Smart' is a full-length contemporary romance and can be listened to as a standalone. Book three in the Work for It series, Educated Romance World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

Absolutely Charming Story

I really loved these characters. They felt real, and, dare I say, familiar. Many of their experiences felt like mine and they were completely relatable. I listened in one go while preparing my home for Christmas and it made that even better.

I love Cameron & Mel!

Book Smart is a sweet friends-to-lovers clean romance. I loved this debut novel by Amanda C. Pennington! Mel & Cameron have been friends for years. Brilliant, beautiful, and book smart, Mel is a bit naive when it comes to the world around her. When inspiration strikes with a book idea that may solve her relationship woes, Mel embarks on an archaic dating adventure. But will trying to find Mr. Right lead her right back to what’s been in front of her all along? After a life-threatening experience, Cameron spent years re-evaluating his priorities while battling for a sense of normalcy. When the beguiling bookworm came into his life, he fell fast & hard. Book Smart is an homage to classic romantic literature and contemporary romcoms all wrapped up in a sweet, quirky, refreshing love story. Amanda C. Pennington’s writing is witty and heartwarming, her characters are captivating, and her connection to literature sparkles through in her text.

Ariel Royce and Christopher Rourke are utterly charming in Book Smart. Ariel brings Mel’s adorkable, delightful, socially oblivious character to life with a lovely performance. Christopher Rourke’s narration of the loyal, pining, nerdy scholar is fantastic! Ariel and Christopher complement each other in pacing, tone, and energy. I really enjoyed this narrating duo, and look forward to hearing more of them both. If you’re looking for a fun, unique, clean, he-falls-first romance, you’ll love Book Smart!

Nope

This story could have been wrapped up in a chapter…if this is the author’s first try then keep on plugging away!

No. Just no.

I wanted to like this one. The plot summary was cute. However, midway through the book I was ready to smack the female protagonist. By the end I wanted to throttle her. She was so incredibly self-absorbed. I would never want to be friends with someone who is so focused on herself that she doesn’t even ask her friends about their lives for weeks. I could list the reasons I’d like to push her off a dock, but this review would be too long.
