Publisher's summary

When Devyn Groves needed a place to get away, she left her Midwestern state and headed for Texas, to the town where her Delta Force brother is stationed. It was supposed to be a brief stop, a safe and temporary refuge on the way to wherever she decided to settle next. Fast-forward over a year later, and she’s made amazing friends, is working part time as a vet tech, and is no closer to leaving. But there’s always the possibility...which is why she keeps Lucky, her brother’s teammate, at arm’s length. Even though it’s the last thing she wants to do.

Troy “Lucky” Schmidt fell for Devyn the moment he met her. She’s beautiful, smart, funny, and stronger than she thinks, especially after beating a serious childhood illness. Unfortunately, she’s also skittish around him, and seemingly not interested in a relationship of any kind. But Lucky isn’t one to give up easily. With a little help from her brother, he slowly breaches Devyn’s defenses...in a way even the headstrong vet tech can’t resist.

But when the very reason she fled her hometown shows up unexpectedly, Lucky suspects Devyn’s ready to bolt once again. Neither believe she’s in any kind of danger...until she is. Now Lucky, and the rest of his Delta team, have to band together to save one of their own.

Shielding Devyn is the sixth book in the Delta Team Two series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliff-hanger endings.

Wow!

Susan Stoker did not disappoint with this story at all. I loved how Devyn just moves to the same area of the country where her brother Grover lives. Grover and the rest of his team knows something is wrong but Devyn keeps this secret. As time passes, Grover’s friend and team mate Lucky has developed quite a strong attraction to Devyn. We find the feelings are mutual. Lucky finally convinces Devyn to trust him. Susan Stoker does an amazing job developing this relationship and with the secret and the trouble it brings. Virginia Rose does such a fantastic narration and really brings out the emotional states of several characters. I will enjoy having this audible in my library!

Loved it!

Loved it! Virginia Rose did a great job as narrator. I really how Susan Stoker draws the reader in with her characters and sets up the story for the next one in the series. Susan even sets up the story line for not only the next book but others after within the series. That really catches the reader's interest and builds anticipation for the books to come.

Good series add, relatable couple + cute pets

Devyn is relatable and, unlike other Stoker novels that are dramatic from page one, this one sneaks up on you. We already know from previous books that Lucky is interested and is being kept at arms length. The relationship progresses at a believable pace and "the big secret" seems possible. I look forward to the next one and hope Angel and Whiskers have a cameo. Oh narration is fantastic- her male voice is sexy. : )

Another hit out of the ballpark for Susan Stoker!

Susan Stoker hits another one out of the ballpark with this great novel that is full of action and romance while dealing with real life issues like addiction. Love the relationship between Devyn and Lucky. Stoker makes us all wish we had a "Lucky" to take home!

Another hit!

I love that Susan can write heroines that aren’t perfect but kick butt in their own way. Also like how she writes about the aftermath of the trials instead of everything being hunkydorey after a kidnapping or a beating. The hero’s are also wonderful in their own right but not perfect either. Great book!

🔹Family Feud!

🔹Just the pros n cons - you decide.

🔹PROS - I loved both characters in the beginning...but not the side story with her brother Spenc! Nothing short of a BIG DRAMA SHOW! (no bueno)

🔹Devyn starts out as an independent woman -livin life to it fullest! Lucky is a "good guy", down to earth and wants to help her!

🔹I adored the animal adoption portion of this book. (since I prefer dogs n cats over screamin kids-lol) It really warmed my heart when Lucky adopted his two fluffy friends! (Gush)

🔹CONS- This book is "BORING", sorry theres no other way to put it! Slow moving, not much action and it took 1/2 of the book to reveal any romance. Lots of repetition as I awaited a SPARK between our two main characters. UHH!

🔹I wish Devyn would have come forward with her lil secret a bit quicker. I felt that portion of the story was slow moving and Devyn's secrecy reminded me of a high schooler. Who would actually up-root their entire life and be on "the run" due to a sibling? Seems far fetched. All she had to do was tell her family, call the cops if it was truly that bad or an good attorney, how about stage an intervention...but SPEAK UP WOMAN!

🔹This book is about Dev's "family" issues, her bro Spenc and their family problems - I wished it was more about Dev and Lucky's relationship. uhhh!

🔹I couldn't BELIEVE it when Dev "opened" the front door to her dangerous bro Spenc and again when two strangers approached! HUUHHH?? How STUPID! I lost all respect for Dev at this point. When they drove her out of town and tied her up - all I could think of was "ya had it comin". Dev proved she was willfully IGNORANT! I was pretty much cashed out on this book at that point. The Dev "forgives" her horrible brother, even after he almost had her killed by the loan shark! ENOUGH! If a family member did this to me I would have called the cops and had them thrown in jail! Dev had proved herself to be a real DUMMY! As my mom use to say - "Ignorance is BLISS".

🔹Overall this book was drawn out and boring although I was rooting for Dev and Lucky. (con amor!)
It didn't have the high octane action/ adventure Susan is known for. Until the next book Stoker fans ...the search is on!

🔸Flawless narration by the one n only Virginia!

Non stop action

Well this story as not expected. Devyn left home and ran to her brothers house for sanctuary but you never would have guessed what she was running from.,or should we say who. The lie she told everyone was discovered and the truth ended up being much worse. Not only for her but for her brother Grover too.

Lucky has wanted Devyn since he met her. He was clear about his intentions and never shied away from his pursuit of her. When he finally finds out the truth of what brought her to Texas, he is torn between honoring his budding relationship with Devyn and revealing this secret to Grover.

The family issue here was so disturbing. It was sad and you can see how Devyn was so torn, but at the same time, she brought a lot of angst and stress onto herself. She was carrying the weight of her entire family on her shoulders and while you understood her actions, it was such a stressful time for her.

I appreciated that we got a glimpse into future to see how everyone was able to recover from her kidnapping and her brothers betrayal. You really hoped that Devyn and Grover’s family could heal.

Great story.,emotional, but still a great story.
