Publisher's summary

Listen to the latest romantic thriller by New York Times best-selling author, Toni Anderson. Read by Eric G. Dove....

When the daughter of the US Ambassador to Argentina is kidnapped in broad daylight on Christmas Eve, the FBI sends one of its best negotiators to investigate.

Supervisory Special Agent Max Hawthorne arrives at an embassy thrown into chaos as US and local law enforcement hustle to track the young woman. Is this a simple kidnap for ransom, or part of a political agenda? Could it be something more sinister?

Lucy Aston has something to hide. Preferring to stay in the shadows, the lowly, fashion-challenged office assistant resents being assigned to help Max. But Max can’t resist a puzzle.... He’s starting to suspect Lucy Aston is not what she seems.

When rumors emerge of a suspected Russian spy operating out of the embassy, Lucy’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble. As she and Max race to rescue the ambassador’s daughter, Lucy has to do whatever it takes to keep her cover from being blown — even if that means betraying the man she’s falling for.

What a ride, filled with suspsense

I really liked how the story is laid out, nobody knows how to to make your heart beat faster than this author. She always gives you a page turner with lots of twists and turns, that you don't see coming. In this one nothing is as it seems, who do you trust, and what are some hiding. It was excitement from the start, filled with surprises and wonderful turns. The author knows how to give you a page turner with the right amount of romance and suspense. Lucy is a mystery that Max has a hard time working out. Things are getting ready to blow sky high and you are left wondering who will live through the fall out. Just as it blows there are some hot passionate scenes that makes things get hotter. Another win for this author as she reaches out and grabs you with a tailspin that leaves you breathless.

I just love Eric G. Dove as a narrator he pulls you in with a very strong and powerful voice. His character voices are wonderful from his male to his female. He gives wonderful emotions you always know what each character is feeling. There are no background noises, no volume changes or any breaks just a clean clear and power listen. His tones are outstanding you can feel the passion, excitement as he holds you on the edge waiting to see what happens next. His normal voice is just as pleasant as his character ones. This is one of the few narrators that when you see his name you know you are in for a highly entertaining listen that will hold you spellbound through the excitement and thrills. He knows how to bring the story to life getting your attention and keeping it.

Does not disappoint

I have been so excited for another book in her Crossfire series. This book was worth the wait. The story follows Max. I enjoy how characters from previous books take the lead in future stories. The story is fast paced and kept my interest.

Not sure how the twist and turns keep coming with this series

I have read most of this author and honestly just keeps getting better - the narrator is really awesome and I listen to hundreds of these books a year!

Enjoyable storyline, bad British accent

To start with the positive - this was a well-rounded story, nicely paced, without a rushed romance (one of my pet peeves). I like how Ms Anderson doesn't shy away from gritty details - unlike some authors who only threaten their characters, she actually follows through, as it is in real life.

For the not so good - I quickly became annoyed how often it was stressed that the main female character was actually super hot and pretty and was only pretending to be "ugly". Ugh. This is another one of my pet peeves, how are regular people supposed to empathize with all these barbie dolls?

And as for the atrocious - as much as I always enjoy E.G.Dove's narration, his British accent is HORRIBLE. It came, it went, it was all over the place up to a point where I just wanted to read the written version rather than listen to more of it.
