Publisher's summary

A new career, a new place, and a new man—you’d think after the rough year she’s had, Isla has finally found her stride. Of course it’s never that simple. Some dreams she is building, some dreams are taken away before they have a chance to form. But she never imagined that the one thing she’s worked so hard to realize, could be the cause it all breaks apart.

Ben doesn’t miss his assignments, his life of deceit, or his unsavory associations—but they appear to miss him. Just as he’s beginning to think perhaps there’s redemption for him after all, his dark past casts a long shadow—and not just on him, but on the woman who made him believe.

The Picture

I loved this book. Ben is retired from undercover work and law enforcement after his last assignment and falling for Isla during the assignme t. they are now living in the mountains of Colorado at a campground running it. Isla is a photographer and takes a picture of Ben among others that are displayed at an art show. Her picture of Ben is bought and she starts getting strange threatening emails. Unsure of what to do, Ben gets his buddy Damian to help him trace who is sending the emails to Isla. There is much drama and suspense as they try to figure out who is plotting against them. Will theu find out in time before something happens? Great story with Great Characters and a HEA. I received this audio book for free and am voluntarily leaving Ia review.

Ben and Isla

what a beautiful love story. I love Freya Barker's stories. I was excited to listen to this.
Ben is the ultimate romantic. Isla is his opposite. She is his sunshine to his dark.
Everything is going fine until his dark past follows him.
There is danger, mystery, humor, steamy sex,
Rock Engle and Marnye Young are new narrators for me. They brought this story to life.
I was gifted this audio and offered my honest review.

Intriguing Romantic Suspense

A continuation of Ben and Isla's life that began in the prequel novella Shutter Speed. You don't HAVE to read it to follow this book, but it does make it so much better, AND provides the story about how Ben and Isla met.

I liked this book because for a several reasons.
1. It was about a more mature couple.
2. It showed that bad things happen to good people and they still managed to survive and thrive.
3. Romance and intimacy do not end at 35. Neither does certain reproduction issues.
4. Life could and did change in a matter of seconds. 5. It gave me a peek into survivors guilt, and what it could look for a person.
6. I love that it showed people's vulnerabilities and how that ultimately made them no less strong or intelligent.

I really enjoyed Ben and Isla's romance and relatioship. They didn't let things fester, no matter how much they didn't want to deal with a situation. I admired the strength of Ben's sister, Stacie. Also how Ben's friends and colleagues supported them when Ben and Isla were confronted with crazy. Let me tell you that the mentally unbalanced was out in full force in this book.

I hope there are other books to come in this series. I keep moving back and forth between series because I found out that Gus who played a role here actually has a book in the Cedar Tree series. And, I found out Stacie's story is already out. So many books, so little time, lol.

I forgot to mention that I actually listened to the audiobook. I thought the narration was pretty well done. It did throw me off a little when the male narrator would be the voice of Isla's uncle who sounded older, and then sound the same for Ben. It wasn't off putting. It did make me pause for a moment to consider whether it was the Al or Ben who was speaking.

What a story!

This is a good action filled, older generation story which I liked. There is drama, sexy times and a crazy incident that happens after we see and watch the two MC learn to be together.

Wow do I love Ben! Granted there are some iffy moments he goes through but he is a champ. He is kind, thoughtful and all-IN! Isla (great name btw) unknowingly brings all the trouble to their door. But as with Ben she surprised me and came through like a boss! I enjoyed all the characters even the secondary ones add so e fun and crazy times to the story. I am always surprised at the type of crazy people go through to get their way.

I did enjoy listening to this on audio. The narrators were both new to me. Rock Engle’s voice reminds me of batman-so gruff. Marnye Young did a super job as Isla. I liked listening to both of them.

Great story

I loved the story and the characters. I liked that it was an established couple which was different from stories I had read before. Ben and Isla are great together. They were real feeling and I liked that they were both older. Lots of chemistry with these two. There is a prequel to this story and though you don’t need it to enjoy this one I do think it adds to this story. Loved the narrators they did a great job. Highly recommend this story.

Fast paced adventure with unexpected love

Are you ready for a fast paced adventure that will you on the edge of your seat? The narration brings these characters to life in the best ways, sharing their emotions throughout the entire story.

I am a fan of Freya's strong independent heroines, Isla fits that bill perfectly. Not just any woman would pack everything up to go help look after a campground on the side of a mountain. But when her Uncle Al needs her help she doesn't think twice. This giving her the perfect backdrop and subjects to further grow her photography and pursue her dreams. Over the crest of 40 she had all but given up the hopes of finding love.

Ben finds himself at a turning point of his life. After many years undercover for DEA he is now retired and ready for normalcy. He was not willing to look for love and companionship while undercover but a certain Pixie has given him a direction and a place to start. Once he starts to settle in he is quickly realizing what he has missed out on and doesn't want to waste any time. Bringing what little family he has to Delores to spend time with them.

When Ben's past sneaks into Delores things get anything but boring. Can Ben keep his past from touching Ilsa and his family?

I often worry when two authors join forces on one book, can the writing style truly mesh. I think Freya and KT are either pretty well matched or maybe a ying/yang. The writing is seamless and I couldn't tell who was writing when. Ben and Isla are both in an adjustment faze and the growth of these character individually and as a couple was very touching.

I am excited to see where Freya and KT take us next with The Snapshot series.

Great Story!

Freeze Frame picks up where Shutter Speed left off, while you can read this as a stand alone, I think you will enjoy it more if you read Shutter Speed and how Ben and Isla get together.
I loved Ben and Isla relationship. They each have their own baggage and are learning how to maneuver their relationship. Ben and Isla have a stalker and events are escalating, There is lots of suspense, that keeps you on the edge of your seat as only Freya can do. I loved the narrators and couldn't put this down!

Loved everything about this book!

Audiobook:  Narrators - Marnye Young & Rock Engle

This is my first time listening to either of these narrators.  They both did a great job of pulling me into the story.  Each character, male and female as well as secondary characters had their own distinctive voice.  I enjoyed every minute of this audio.

I loved this full novel of Isla and Ben as they move forward in their relationship.  There is a lot of establishing their ideas of what they each want, not only as a couple together, but for the future.  As they begin to work towards a happy ever after, Ben’s past comes back to torment them.  From that point on, things really picked up as far as drama and I couldn’t stop listening. It was so good.

This can be read alone, although I do recommend Shutter Speed to learn how they came to be.  This also sets us up for the next book in the series.

Intense!!

2nd read: I did a second read via audiobook and I highly recommend it. The narrators did a fantastic job and it's dual narration. This is one of my favorite series by this author and the second read just confirmed how much I love it.

1st read: I love, love reading about an already established couple. I like to see how they handle things together and just being happy with each other.

In Freeze Frame, Ben and Isla are a brand new couple so we still get to see them learn and grow as a couple, and see them fall more in love.

If you want to read about their beginning, and I highly recommend it, you can read the novella that shows how they met in [bookcover:Shutter Speed|33972762].

What I loved best about Ben and Isla was the maturity they displayed. Isla has a tendancy to react first before she thinks, but she also recognizes it immediately and works to fix it. Ben was so up front an honest with her that there was no miscommunication with these two.

This book just made me very happy. I liked this couple. I liked how they were with each other, and I liked how they handled everything that was thrown at them. It's starts out low angst but then builds to some drama that shows how well these two worked together to handle that conflict. Awesome couple!

Love Ben & Isla!!

Ben and Isla meet under the strangest circumstances...she was managing her uncle’s camp grounds and he was an undercover DEA agent. That was months ago...now Ben and Isla are working on their HEA, including building a new house...and getting a dog. Life couldn’t be better. Then someone from Ben’s past begins to play havoc in the couple’s lives. We have some crossover characters from this author’s Rock Point series, which is a treat! Throw in the adorable pup and Ben’s young tomboy niece and we have a story that js ‘unputdownable’. Great romantic suspense.
