Publisher's summary

It's been a long 17 years but Herschel Wood, Jr., is finally a free man and he's looking forward to reconnecting with his old cellmate, Bishop Stockley, who promised him a place to stay and some help getting back on his feet. Wood had a good life once upon time when he'd owned one of the most successful tattoo shops on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront - until a fatal accident that was his fault cost him everything.

Trent Armstrong has never been considered a catch. He's a 29-year-old laborer, an ex-con, and not the easiest person to get along with. He's used to being the one people cast to the side when they're done with him. Everyone he's ever cared about has walked out of his life without a backward glance, so he's used to the loneliness.

From the moment the tattooed, silver-haired man walked into the house there had been nothing but tension, side-eyeing, and sparks between them. Trent has always held back a side of himself that he's terrified to explore, and without warning Wood's voice, his maturity, that maddening scent, and even his damaged past all trigger feelings that Trent thought he'd buried deep long ago.

Contains mature themes.

A vast improvement over bishop

Don't get me wrong I love Bishop. He is so compelling and interesting, but over all Wood is a improvement in story this series needed. Wood and Trent both have interesting things going on. Even through Wood has a lot more Trent's side of the story kept me invested, and I do love A.E. gave Edison some more personality this go around. I hope book 3 we get more Bishop though.

Wood's Voice!

This is simply amazing. The story. The narration. Everything! Thank you AE Via for another great book. That Tor Thom... his voice could melt panties or a jockstrap. Where's my fan?

Love the Rumble in the narrators voice

Narrator Tor Thom gave a much more impressive performance by decreasing the amounts of an audible mouthful of breaths prior to each sentence. Not once did I contemplate suicide or property damage. His clear and willful attempts to increase audio quality and listener enjoyment by more than 50%, shoveled the shit off my sidewalk and put my hang-ups to bed.

I did approach this audiobook with a smidgen of anticipation and apprehension. You would too, if you had the kind of emotional damage I had post book 1 Bishop. But, I made such a big hoo-ha of it all, I had to check. Squeaky wheels and all that “good stuff” no one has the guts to say and when it comes to that awkward moment; every fucking eyeball is turned your way.

Anyway, in order to prevent another round of squirrel brain and weeks of antipsychotics, you will need one of those old people grabbing sticks, a well-charged phone with your Wood prepped and ready to go. Some may find a tissue or old socks sufficient but for myself, a pillow works best. It does not really matter, it’s your Wood, muffle it any way you want. Just press play on your well-charged device and grab it with the grabbing stick and release it underneath your muffler.

Imagine my surprise, when I waited for that I fucking knew it moment, and it never came. Fuck the grabbing stick, come to me!

There we lay. Me with my head on the pillow staring at my phone while listening to that beautiful rumble in Tor’s voice. Especially when he rumbles Hmmm in the affirmative. I found peace, and I fell in love with that new flow and the cadence of his voice. That choppiness sounds much more human and natural. The emotions of the characters felt deeper and truer. I was able to enjoy my favorite author again. Bliss hmmm.

The story of Wood and Trent was well written. I loved the rules Trent had and I associated very easily with both the characters. So deeply hurt, and not loved enough. So many people end up in prison due to not enough love and understanding. The fact that Wood is not an alcoholic, but ends up drinking himself into a stupor was well written too. We can say there is no alcohol in prison to resist, but at the end of the day, all addicts tell the same lies to themselves.

I can’t wait to hear Mike and Rain’s story. Maybe, next time I can try is it my headphones again.

I do recommend this audiobook. It has sad times, funny times, and lots of sexy times.

Happy Listening

So Hot

Wood and Trent’s story hit me in the heart and gave me all the feels. Two broken souls looking for happiness, and they find their forever. My heart wept when Wood went looking for his belongings and tried to reunite with his family after 17 years in prison. Trent has always felt unloved and discarded, and when Wood came barreling into his life, he wasn’t at all expecting to find a connection. Their story makes you smile over the tears.

I might be a little biased but ..

so... this book... for reasons I won't expound upon... it hits. Just gonna say. I was lucky to not be convicted in the vehicular accident that resulted in a death. I was sober that night but I can completely sympathize with Wood. Just gonna say... people deserve redemption. Thank you. ❤
