Publisher's summary

Settled in the tranquil remoteness of the Scottish Highlands, Ardnoch Estate caters to the rich and famous. It is as unattainable and as mysterious as its owner - ex-Hollywood leading man Lachlan Adair - and it's poised on the edge of a dark scandal.

After narrowly escaping death, Police Officer Robyn Penhaligon leaves behind her life in Boston in search of some answers. Starting with Mac Galbraith, the Scottish father who abandoned her to pursue his career in private security. To reconnect with Mac, Robyn will finally meet a man she's long resented. Lachlan Adair. Hostility instantly brews between Robyn and Lachlan. She thinks the head of the Adair family is high-handed and self-important. And finding closure with Mac is proving more difficult than she ever imagined. Robyn would sooner leave Ardnoch, but when she discovers Mac is embroiled in a threat against the Adairs and the exclusive members of the estate, she finds she's not yet ready to give up on her father.

Determined to ensure Mac's safety, Robyn investigates the disturbing crimes at Ardnoch, forcing her and Lachlan to spend time together. Soon it becomes clear a searing attraction exists beneath their animosity, and temptation leads them down a perilous path.

Absolutely loved!

Absolutely loved this book! Even though my first love is and always will be sci-fi and fantasy, I have a special place in my heart for mystery/thrillers since my major in college was criminal justice.
And Samantha Young did this one justice, keeping me guessing to the very end. I had a few guesses throughout, but in the end I was still caught by surprise, so thank you for that Samantha.
The romance was beautiful and sweet, and what I look forward to most from this author. While it started out as a slow burn, my heart melted when Robyn and Lachlan found their way to each other. There was a deeper, richer quality to their connection that kept me turning the page for more. Even Robyn’s relationship with her father was beautiful and pulled at my heartstrings, having me root for them to grow closer.
One thing I’ve always enjoyed from Samantha Young is her understanding of character interactions and her way of bringing it to life on the page that makes you feel as though you are right there with them, watching it all unfold before you.
I am definitely excited for the next book in the Adair’s and whatever else comes next!

Here with Me

I had such high hopes.
I don’t know if it was my mood or the story or what but I wasn’t feeling the storey at all. I liked Robyn and Mac even the brooding Lachlan.

The drama because Mac wasn’t in her life, maybe if she was younger I don’t know it just didn’t fit.

Mac and the eyes at Lachlan’s sister isn’t really much of a secret so I think that might be the next book. I would be cool with that if the sister isn’t so meek like she was in this book.
Lachlan was the only character in this book that was an adult the rest I felt like acted like adolescences.

I enjoyed the narration.

Great story and narration

I know that this is hard to believe by Samantha Young is a new author to me and I cannot believe I have not read her before. What a great start to her latest series, the Adair Family. From the start I was hooked on Robyn Penhaligon and Lachlan Adair’s story which is set in the Scottish Highlands on the Ardnoch Estate.
Charlotte North did a wonderful job with her narration. Her voice was easy to listen to and her accents fabulous. She brought all the characters to life for me with the multiple voices she used for the various characters.
Robyn is a former Boston police office who recently cheated death whilst on the job. Faced with her mortality she is now on a mission to track down her father Mac Galbraith and re connect with the father who left her as a child.
From the moment she meets Lachlan the sparks flew and in fact it was highly entertaining to read their childish behaviour as they taunted and teased one another. There is a fine line between love and hate and it is quickly obvious to all those around them that there is something simmering between them.
After her father is attacked, he asks that she investigate the mysterious incidents that are occurring at the Ardnoch Estate, not knowing that her investigation will put a target on her back. I really enjoyed the mix of romance and suspense. The banter was witty and the tension as their relationship evolved added an additional layer.
This was a well written story that will draw you in have you quickly invested in their story. There were plenty of swoon worthy moments throughout Here With Me as well as some suspense, mystery drama and angst.
Throughout it all Samantha Young kept me absolutely on the edge of my seat as I read and cheered for Robyn and Lachlan to get their happily ever after; even though they are opposites, they were so well suited. This was an entertaining read ticked all the boxes for me.

Loved this book

I stumbled across this book because of a TikTok I watched and I was not disappointed. There was a little bit of suspense and danger but I loved the love story. It's also a little spicy. This book is one of my favorites I've listened to this year.

Very Slow

This book seemed almost endless, and I was bored for the majority of it. I've enjoyed some of this author's work, and I was intrigued when I heard she was writing something other than just romance, the crime/mystery element is what made me want to read it.

Unfortunately, the mystery part wasn't much of a mystery, I guessed who was behind it right away. Except for Robyn's father getting hurt, most of it was threatening notes and ransacking. There didn't seem to be a sense of urgency until the end, mostly it was a catalyst for jealous feelings.

So the mystery was just there to keep Robyn and Lachlan in each other's orbit, and what a boring place that was. Lachlan is sexist and petty, he and Robyn bicker like school kids, The fact that he's almost 40 made me embarrassed for him. But of course Robyn is attracted to him, I guess it's easy to overlook his lack of personality when he's rich and good looking.

The best part of the book is Robyn's re-connection with her father, Mac. Trying to reconcile after he pretty much abandoned her when he was a child was the emotional heart of the story.

Charlotte North was very good with the delivery of the story

Didn’t realize it was a romance novel

I didn’t read the book’s description clearly because I thought I bought a mystery when it’s actually a romance, a genre that I don’t read. The narrator was great and the story was fine so in the end it was worth finishing, however I definitely won’t read other Samantha Young books.

Great romantic suspense

I adored this story! Robyn is such a kickass strong fmc and Lachlan was a man set in his ways.

Charlotte North did an AMAZING job as the solo narrator. She really nailed it, plain and simple.

Good start to this series

While I almost didn't purchase this book because of the 14.5 hrs length, I'm glad I did. The story was good and enhanced by Charlotte North's performance. Her narration was excellent no matter the gender or the nationality of the character. Her performance kept me entertained & listening. While I love Duet style narration the best, I'll be looking for other stories narrated by Charlotte North.
