Publisher's summary

A weapon is forged from flesh and magic.

Tattooed with magical runes to enhance his skills and suppress his emotions, Lad is raised from birth to be the most lethal assassin the world has ever known. He is the pinnacle of his master’s magical and martial arts, a true weapon of flesh, all according to plan. Until the plan goes awry....

The Master is gone, and the weapon is free. And in a dangerous world, a weapon does what a weapon is made to do. Or does he?

Alone for the first time, Lad’s future is now in his own hands. He has a destiny, but knows not what it is. Undeterred, he heads out into the world, and the weapon begins to become a person....

But a person is not what the Grandfather of Assassins has invested a fortune and nearly two decades to achieve. When his weapon does not arrive as promised, the Grandfather sets loose his hunters.

The only problem? No one thought a weapon of flesh would fall in love.

Now only death will release Lad from his servitude and save the woman he loves—the Grandfather’s death…or his own.

Great Story

this is a great story and novel. Chris Jackson is one of my favorite authors. This is one of his earlier pieces and I am excited to hear the rest on audible and seeing how his skills have changed from this work to his more recent amazing works in the Five Fold series and his post apocalyptic book The Last.

This book is a great read and listen too. the narrator does a fantastic job.

weapon of Flash

This is definitely something I can say I've never heard before and it was different.
The narration was OK.

INCREDIBLE!!

I couldn’t stop listening; the story was so compelling. The action scenes are so well described and the journey of the protagonist…what an arc! All the characters are so unique and well developed. AND the NARRATOR!! Ryan H. Reid’s voices are INSANE. I got lost in the story because his acting and distinct character voices are so good. Chris A. Jackson is a wonderful storyteller and I cannot WAIT for the next in the series to get on Audible. SERIOUSLY! You don’t want to miss this one.

Credit due

I’ll give author credit for the attempt. The only reason I kept listening because this is the closest to KDT I’ll probably find but it was extremely disappointing that the author had lad lose every single fight until the end of the book. He spends 16 years training and loses the first real fight. This is extremely frustrating. I would have rather him kill this new master fast and without mercy or fear but no you take the whole book just to delay the inevitable

Great First Half, Cringe Second Half

The beginning of this book started out so great. The concept was interesting and I was excited to see where it was going. But then, around the second half, it suddenly delves into predictable cliché after cliché It's like the author didn't like what he was doing and started writing a whole new book using the same character.
