Publisher's summary

Mrs. Parsons lives a quiet life in a small cottage in the woods on the outskirts of town, having woken next to her husband Lloyd, and has gone about with her normal routine every day for the past 50+ years. But on this most extraordinary day, she will venture out into the world, reclaiming her place in it and, in so doing so, rediscover herself.

In this lush, romantic short tale from Phil Geoffrey Bond, the simple life is revealed as not so simple at all.

Interesting story

It's strange, how such an ordinary story and life could be so interesting. Lee does a wonderful job bringing the story to life, and I felt like I was taking a peek in on Mrs Parson's actual life, and the new adventure she decides to embark on one day. Bond did an amazing job of taking what could have been a very boring story, and bringing emotion, vivid imagery, and a good enough plot that had I been reading this, I wouldn't have wanted to put it down.

I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobook Empire. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Everyone has that moment...

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Audiobook Empire. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Mrs. Parsons and her husband have lived in a small cabin for 50 years, and their lives are routine and simple. One day, though, she decides that she wants to “find herself.” She leaves their home and buys a ticket for somewhere far away. But she realizes that she truly loves her husband and that he loves her.

This is a short story but it delves into something that we all go through at least once in our lives. The question of whether our lives could be more, that we could do more with our lives is a common one. I think that some people take a lot longer than Mrs. Parsons to figure things out.

The narrator did a good job with pace and timing and her voice is pleasant to listen to.

If you like to listen to short stories, this is a good, sweet, romantic story that may have you looking at your own life.

We Never Stop Wondering What Else is Out There

The Fall of Mrs. Parsons is the story of Mary Bell Parsons, an old woman in the twilight of her life who decides to act on impulse and run away from her husband and quiet cabin home to find herself in the nearby town of Tacoma and possibly far away on a trip by herself. As she revels in the freedom and independence she's just gained, she also remembers how much she loves her husband, regardless of any annoyances and minor grudges she's been holding onto, and figures out how to both honour this life she's lead with him and also embrace something new and all her own.

This story is bittersweet, beautiful, heartbreaking, and oh-so real. As a married woman who lives far from her own family, I deeply understand Mrs. Parson's inner conflict and selfish desires. I love my husband and our daughter and I love our house and neighbourhood, but that doesn't stop me from daydreaming about independence and faraway places. I can only imagine how these feelings will change and grow by the time I'm Mrs. Parsons' age. I hope that if I ever get to the point of actually taking the truck off to town and buying a ticket to some faraway land, my husband will respond the way Mr. Parsons does. There's so much unspoken love and deep understanding in the way this couple interacts with few words.

Read this if you want to run away for a day with an old woman who still wonders what else is out there waiting for her. It's well worth it!

I was granted complimentary access to The Fall of Mrs. Parsons via Audible as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Audiobookworm Promotions. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
