Publisher's summary

Miss Harriet Peabody dreams of the day she can open up a shop selling refashioned gowns to independent working women like herself. Unfortunately, when an errand for her millinery shop job goes sadly awry due to a difficult customer, she finds herself out of an income.

Mr. Oliver Addleshaw is on the verge of his biggest business deal yet, when he learns his potential partner prefers to deal with men who are settled down and wed. When Oliver witnesses his ex not-quite-fiance cause the hapless Harriet to lose her job, he tries to make it up to her by enlisting her help in making a good impression on his business partner.

Harriet quickly finds her love of fashion can't make her fashionable. She'll never truly fit into Oliver's world, but just as she's ready to call off the fake relationship, fancy dinners, and elegant balls, a threat from her past forces both Oliver and Harriet to discover that love can come in the most surprising packages.

I accidentally found myself bing “reading”

This author always does such a wonderful job with her stories. I enjoyed the snippets of historical details she included in the story. And the main female protagonist is a strong caring woman. You can’t help but want every good thing to happen to her. I like the route she took with this story. I only wish it could go on longer. Fortunately, she set the story up perfectly for is to hear about all 3 interesting ladies and I look forward to hearing or reading where she takes them next. This was a very enjoyable listen, and may be one of my new favorites.

Lovely

Such a great start to this new series! Humor. Wonderful characters, adorable dog and surprising revelations make this story memorable. Add the narrator Nancy and it is perfect!

Disappointing

Although the plot was good, the author seems to be more concerned with coming up with something funny, which only serves to stall the story repeatedly and detract from the purpose of the scene and, especially, from the interactions of the characters. It's like a person who can't quite handle the intensity of the intimate moment, so they have to say something silly. I found myself often rolling my eyes and wishing she'd get to the point. This was particularly dissatisfying at the end of the story when everything should culminate in a satisfying scene, but instead drags on and dilutes the emotion of the moment.

The narrator was mostly good, but not great.

An enjoyable story

This is an enjoyable that made me laugh and ponder how I am living my life. Would definitely recommend

The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life, but there were a couple times when she used the wrong voice.

Absolutely charming!

This is a sweet, clean, humorous book. I have listened to this book several times already. I still laugh, and look forward to the whole book. You can’t go wrong with one of Jen Turano’s books. I love the narrater as well.
