Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Reaper Man is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor Sian Clifford (Fleabag; Vanity Fair; Quiz). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'Inside every living person is a dead person waiting to get out.'

Death has been fired by the Auditors of Reality for the heinous crime of developing…a personality. Sent to live like everyone else, Death takes a new name and begins working as a farmhand. He's got the scythe already, after all.

And for humanity, Death is just…gone. Which leads to the kind of chaos you always get when an important public service is withdrawn. If Death doesn't come for you, then what are you supposed to do in the meantime?

You can't have the undead wandering about like lost souls—there's no telling what might happen. Particularly when they discover that life really is only for the living…

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order, but Reaper Man is the second book in the Death series.

The first book in the Discworld series—The Colour of Magic—was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Moving, beautiful, perfect story.

The cast is great. The story is, of course, great. The new narrator brings life (and Life) to Miss Flitworth and the book’s other characters absolutely perfectly. And “who you gonna call?” had me laughing out loud.

So far ahead of his time

That’s all I can think when I listen to discworld in this new adaptation. Sir Terry was always pioneering rights and making commentary on the world which resonates so much and a lot of it was so far ahead of its time.

Perfect

Sian is perfect for these books! Brilliant story fantastically read. I’ve read the physical versions of the Diskworld series to destruction, loving them all over again with these new imaginings

Great reading and performances with a but...

The performances are superb, Peter Serafinowicz does a great voice for death and Bill Nighy's laconic take on the footnotes are superb. I would give just as glowing a review to Sian if she slowed down a little. I have taken to listening to her readings at 0.85 speed because otherwise everything just sounds too fast. At the slower speed it's an absolutely superb reading of an absolutely superb book.

Superb

Peter's voice for Death is the best EVER spoken by anyone! And Sians reading is wonderful! I can't wait to hear what she does for Susan (character not featured in this book) but she is a wonderful reader able to transport you to the discworld.

As for he story, it goes without saying, Pterry is a master.

Good overall

I struggled a bit with the switching between the stories. Bill Door’s story I found lovely. But overall very enjoyable, Siam’s narration can seem a little monotonous at times. But I like the new narrations.

I listened to this book twice!

I listened to this book twice! I couldn’t NOT give 5 stars. I thought Sian Clifford was engaging and our oldies but goodies Peter Serafinowicz and Bill Nighy came up trumps again. So many characters to talk about and share a giggle about including the Librarian of course. Great book! I love when Death gets into a predicament [giggle].

Loved it. In my Pratchett top 3

What an awesome performance too. I was initially disappointed it wasn’t Nigel Planer but this soon ended and i really got into it. The cast bought the book to life. Well done.

Great once I slowed the audio to 0.95x

I have always loved this book and I am really glad they have recorded these versions.
For this narrator I had to slow down the audio to 0.95 as it was just a touch too quick for my overall enjoyment but its great after that.

An amazing story that knits together

At first there were a few parts I was confused or lost about but as the story went on and weaved together I was enthralled as the plot unfurled an amazing journey.
