Publisher's summary

Phoebe Whitehouse is not just my student—she's my obsession. I eat, sleep, and breathe her.

One day, she slips up, and I have my in. At long last, I can own her. She's mine to punish and to pleasure. I don't care if I lose my job as a tenured professor over her. I don't care if I destroy my life or hers. I'm obsessed, and she doesn't know it yet, but I'm never letting her go.

As this is a dark taboo bully romance, please take into consideration the following trigger warnings: stalking, dub con, infant death by SIDS, death of a parental figure, alcohol abuse, and child neglect.

Obsessed was previously published as The Professor, but it has been heavily edited and extended.

An Obsession To Be Sure!

I did not know Serena Akeroyd's body of work until I received a recommendation from my Discord Book Club to start reading Obsessed. So Serena Akeroyd is now my Obsession!

Obsessed is a brilliant, dark, full-of-triggers, sexual bullying, alcoholism, child neglect, infant death, spousal abuse romance with a HEA for readers seeking true-to-life lessons, redemption, and peace. Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb bring to life the story of Nicholas Maclean and Phoebe Whitehouse, two twisted souls searching for a light to shine on their tortuous lives. The exceptional narration enhances Ms. Akeroyd's Obsessed world.

"Words are weapons, and sometimes monsters can be heroes too."

Their relationship is preternatural, and Nicholas compares it to a Yayoi Kasuma painting.

NSFW Chapter 25 will have you breathless with the mere instruction of "on your back." Chapter 32 will make you rethink your college graduation celebratory dinner.

Ms. Akeroyd's visuals of New York City streets are reminiscent of Jonathan Lemkin's adaptation of Andrew Neiderman's The Devil's Advocate. As her bucolic farm life in France reminds us of Peter Mayle's A Good Year, directed by Ridley Scott.

I wholeheartedly recommend that ESL readers embark on immersion reading. Immersion Reading takes you deeper into the story and the world created by the author. This functionality allows you to read a Kindle eBook and listen to its professionally narrated Audible companion Audiobook – simultaneously. In addition, you get the benefit of real-time highlighting, making Immersion Reading a valuable tool to boost reading comprehension and overall content retention.

“Sometimes, monsters could be heroes too.”

The narrators were spot on perfection! Absolute MAGIC in my earballs!! Joe Arden BROUGHT IT with the quiet intensity as Nicholas *shivers*. His growl game was ON POINT for this one. And Lessa Lamb IS Phoebe…like, I clapped and jumped up and down like a giddy schoolgirl when she was 1 paragraph in! She personified the heartbroken, soft but strong heroine on the verge of hopelessness. All the stars to this incredible vocal team!

Sweet Phoebe is a college student focused on finishing her degree to make a better life for not only herself, but her baby brother, Scottie. She has only a couple of months left before she is free from her studies and can get a more steady, better paying job. Unfortunately for her, there are several factors working against her.

First, she still lives with her extremely irresponsible and selfish alcoholic mother. This leaves Phoebe and Scottie in very unsafe living conditions and relying on the kindness of neighbors to look after the baby while our heroine works hard at school and her 2 jobs.

Second, that kind neighbor that looks after Scottie? She ends up in the hospital and unable to help any more, forcing Phoebe to seek childcare elsewhere, which is not free. Of course, she cannot afford this and finds herself doing something she normally wouldn’t out of sheer desperation.

The third factor that is seriously screwing up Phoebe’s life is her professor, Nicholas Maclean. We find out from chapter 1 that he is obsessively following Phoebe, without her knowledge. But why? He is unreasonably tough on her in class. When he catches her in a moment of weakness and desperation, he blackmails her and puts even more stress on her than she needs. The hateful, venomous words that he spits at her are completely unwarranted from Phoebe’s perspective, and as a reader, I was thinking, “I hate how he makes her feel so bad about herself!”

No, Professor Maclean was not the ideal knight in shining armor for Phoebe at the beginning. He had some demons to overcome and secrets that kept him from getting too close…unfortunately all of that skewed his view of Phoebe from the beginning, causing him to see her as something she wasn’t…even as he felt the compulsion to protect her from a distance.

When he learns more about her circumstances, he changes his tune, provides for her in a more substantial way, makes her see herself as the treasure she is, and slowly begins to open up to her, as well. Oh, the swoony, steamy scenes when this happens!! Inhibitions melt away and these two together are amazing!! Unfortunately, he is still her professor, and when his past catches up to them, my heart absolutely broke for him. How will they overcome it? And will baby Scottie end up in the safe, loving, and responsible family that he deserves?

There is not really an “epilogue”, but the last couple of chapters are set years in the future (we get to see up to 9 years after the main events of the story), so we get to see how the main characters end up and where life takes them. Not really a spoiler because if you know the author she doesn’t do it any other way, but there is a sweet HEA!

I was so looking forward to this re-write as I never got to read it under its previous title. It is a quick, delicious read about a couple rediscovering themselves, becoming stronger together, and learning what home means to them.

Yes Professor,Sir

This story is about a professor who is obsessed with a student (Nicholas and Phoebe). He has constantly followed her or stalked her for nearly four years without her knowledge until one morning. Phoebe was in a bind and she did something wrong and he was there to witness it, he now has her where he wanted her.

Lessa Lamb gives real emotion to Phoebe in the telling of Obsessed. Joe Arden make the a drool worthy performance with Nicholas, the Professor, and leaves you wanting more. Especially after chapter 25🔥🥵🔥

this was a good book, sweet, dark, really went in depth into really understanding why he was the way he was and really went into depth about her life, it was just a really sweet story,it was spicy but not as detailed in the spicy scenes as I like but I would definitely read this again if I had a choice

Stalker romance

Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb did a fantastic job narrating as usual. It’s a really well written stalker, age gap, teacher student, bully story.

Phoebe and her Professor

The professor was obsessed with his student Phoebe and he was extremely patient. Phoebe had a rough life with a worthless alcoholic mother and a baby brother to raise. In addition to that, she held two jobs and had all of her school work. I found the first half of the book slow but the second half was much better and Joe Arden did most of the narration. The professor's ex and his parents were terrible people. Although the ending was enjoyable but I didn't care for this book nearly as much as Ms. Ackeroyd's other books and I usually love her writing but not so much this time. Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb did a great job with the narration.

Love this!

If you’re looking for an age gap, teacher/student teacher romance, this book is for you. Serena Akeroyd always write such interesting stories and this one is no different.

Phoebe is a young student struggling to keep it all together. With a mother who doesn’t care and is manipulative, and a baby brother she has to nurture, Phoebe has to juggle work and school to make a better life. When she’s caught stealing, she becomes indebted to her Professor Nicholas, and they become embroiled in an unconventional relationship. Unbeknownst to Phoebe, Nicholas had his eyes on her for a long time and her debt to him played right into his plans for them.

Joe Arden and Lessa Lamb were fantastic as narrators! Can’t recommend them enough!
