Publisher's summary

The business book for people who hate business books.

Growing a business is tough. Entrepreneurs usually start off by cobbling together a team of self-starters willing to bust their asses for the company...usually from within their personal network of college buddies, friends of friends, and relatives. Those scrappy teams fit perfectly in your startup culture—they're tough, hungry, and willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. But what happens when you reach $20 million in revenue, or 40 or 50 million—and those same dedicated employees are holding you back? How do you walk that delicate line between gratitude and necessity?

Let's face it, sometimes your needs exceed their abilities. People decisions are hard, especially if they're close to us. As a result, many entrepreneurs end up tiptoeing around these issues—and we end up learning many lessons the hard way. Who's Your Mike? offers a witty, nuanced approach to the people problems common to every entrepreneur as you grow your business. Whether you suffer from a Mike, don't know what to do with a Bounce-Around Betty, or need to rid yourself of a Pipeline Paul, Kurt Wilkin wants to help you diagnose issues before they arise and make those challenging people decisions that are holding you back.

Great for small businesses looking to scale

Great stories about those you helped you early, but are no longer as valuable as you scale. Something I’ve struggled with personally during my firm’s transition

Must read!

Kurt describes all the personalities you’ll encounter as an entrepreneur and how they influence your organization. Throughout the book, I could identify these personalities that I encountered as the CEO of a growing organization.

A valuable resource that seamlessly blends entrepreneurial wisdom with practical and simple insights.

As a current YPO member, Forum Facilitator, and EOS Implementer, I found 'Who's Your, Mike?' to be a remarkable guide.

The author, a fellow YPO member, brings a wealth of experience to the table, particularly for those in leadership roles. However, the book's universal appeal extends its relevance to anyone involved in building or leading high-performance teams.

A valuable resource that seamlessly blends entrepreneurial wisdom with practical and simple insights.

Entrepreneur Must Read!

Kurt's book is a total must-read for anyone venturing in the world of entrepreneurship. At no time in the journey of being an entrepreneur is hiring easy - in fact, it is consistently and almost necessarily hard. Kurt presents 11 archetypes - from Mike to Pipeline Paul to Right Hand Rita to Next Level Natalie - and as someone with close to 15 years experience in entrepreneurship across 3 companies - these 11 people are REAL and entrepreneurs need help in identifying them, and then figuring out what to do about them! I opted to listen to this book instead of read a printed version, and Kurt's additional role as the reader made listening easy and fun. Highly recommend this book to every entrepreneur out there!

Wouldn’t consider myself an entrepreneur- and I loved this book

Kurt does such a great job informing/advising the reader on what works and what doesn’t through his years of experience. The best, for me, is that he does this through stories. Real stories….his own and companies/people he’s worked with.

Definitely not a typical “business book”. As I said in the title- I’m pretty much a veteran “sales guy”, not an entrepreneur…but I learned so much about personality types through this book- I’m sure I can apply it to my professional and private life.

No BS Straight Talk w Real World Stories

My favorite thing about this book and the author’s style is the absolute truth bombs he drops. It’s as if Kurt and I are just talking alone and he is telling it like it is, no BS, no sugar coating. It takes a lot to admit shortcomings and weak sports and we all have them. Hopefully these success and failure stories will help other entrepreneurs and business minds improve their companies. Well done Kurt!
