A tragedy, a plague, and a dragon rider’s destiny...

Kira’s heart is broken when her stepfather dies in a dragon-riding accident. When it becomes clear that his dragon, Axel, is gravely ill, she knows she can’t take another loss. The only hope to heal him seems to rest with her mother’s old friend, who lives in the far-off city of Caravon. Kira has never left her village, but to save Axel, she’ll embark on the journey and soon discover that he isn’t the only one sick.

In fact, a plague is sweeping through the dragons of Ragond, and no one knows the cause.

When Kira finds an abandoned dragon hatchling named Gilda, she soon comes to believe that the young dragon may be the key to the mysterious illness. After all, her mother succumbed to the sickness, but the hatchling is surprisingly healthy and eager to help Kira find the answers needed to eradicate the plague.

Both Kira and Gilda may be young, but they are far from ordinary, and as they begin to uncover the reasons for the illness, they discover a secret that threatens not only the dragons, but Ragond itself. Yet, curing the plague might not be enough to stop the dangers that threaten to overwhelm them.

This is a Good Start to a Trilogy

I definitely like the MC Kira and her attempts at always trying to put things right. This was a ost enjoyable listen/read. The author writes a very well thought out Story and World as well as quite a variety of different creatures. The Narrator does a good job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline. Looking forward to book 2 of this Series.

Slow and Enjoyable

I get the feeling of "meh" when I listened to this story. It tends to be slow and measured. This is not very action packed. Still the story is enjoyable & refreshing. The story also comes to decent stopping point.

Magically enchanting and spell binding.

Every time you read another new dragon series you get drawn into another world away from the otherwise problems that every one is dealing with now.
You will not be disappointed with this book!
It only gets better each time you read the next book !

one of the saddest stories by Ava Richardson

One of the saddest stories, but also one of the most heart felt stories. You truly feel like there is a lot going on, the problems of the modern world for instance, racism, bigotry, and every other problem, it shows up just enough to give you something to relate to, but at the same time it doesn't show up so much that it's impossible to ignore the similarities.

albeit this was easily one of the most sad stories Ava Richardson has wrote in my honest opinion, I don't regret it for a moment. Rebekah Nemethy is a great narrator. and for Ava Richardson's books, she's one of the best. I loved the original Ragond Portal wars series. and you can bet your britches, when another book from this series comes out on audible, I'm going to be one of the first to buy it.

Love love love!

Ava Richardson is so very talented in writing these dragon books! The stories are so real feeling. And one of my most favorite narrators, Rebekah Nemethy, never ceases to amaze me with her talent in using multiple voices, inflection and over all story telling. They both leave me looking forward to the next book!

Enjoyable

Good story, hints at surprising developments to come, narrator pleasant to listen to, not your action packed dragon war story, focuses on dragon/human relationship.

sadness within

This starts out so sad and continues with obstacles, loss, and deprivation, but the heroine continues on her mission. Along the way she finds out about herself and her powers. She has a lot of inner strength, fortitude, and tenacity. I wasn't expecting this to be so depressing. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good.
