Publisher's summary

In this steamy tale by USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn, an American searching for her purpose escapes to a Scottish town but finds more questions than answers when she meets a brooding yet handsome handyman.

Freshly fired from her third job in a row, Bonnie St. James has lost her way. So when she and her best friend stumble upon a “help wanted” post to run a coffee shop in the Scottish Highlands, they apply on a whim. Who knows? Maybe traveling to a new place is just what she needs to figure out her next move.

When the friends arrive in the tiny idyllic town of Corsekelly, they instantly fall for the gorgeous Highland landscape and friendly townspeople. But Bonnie finds a less-than-warm welcome in Rowan MacGregor, the rugged local handyman. Busy wrestling his own demons, Rowan’s in no mood to deal with the quirky American - even if she is a bonny lass.

As Bonnie and Rowan’s paths inevitably cross, insults - and sparks - fly. Can the pair build on their similarities to help each other find purpose and direction...and maybe romance too? Or will their passionate tempers fling them apart?

male narration absolutely terrible

I like the story itself while the h can be bit childish at times with her behavior Quinn makes it work. But the male narration is truly the worst thing ever. the Scottish accent is a joke from him. Just do yourself a favor and read this one don't listen.

Fun Romcom

I enjoyed the story, but think I should’ve skipped the audio version of this one. Paula did a great job as Bonnie, but Antony really struggled with the female characters. His performance as Rowan was great, but the female characters fell flat and were a distraction.

Overall, an enjoyable book!

Not quite my cup of tea…

The overall story was a good one but the friction & arguments between the main characters were just too immature for me. I had a hard time believing most of them or that a grown adult would act that way to say such ludicrous things. And while the Scottish accent is one of my fave things in the world to listen to, the male narrators female voice was rough for me…just ok & not quite my cup of tea.

Good story, great laughs, mixed bag on chemistry

Truly I enjoy Quinn's stories. For a prolific author of contemporary romance, she has successfully created meet cutes for various types of couples. Add a Scot or Irish as a main character and you've got me hooked.

Bonnie, the heroine, and her nemesis Rowan deliver a lot of laughs with their one ups. And just the misunderstandings with Highland vocabulary and culture for the Californian Bonnie could be a good book.

Bonnie in Paula's narration comes across differently, more authentic as a good hearted busy body American. Through Antony's narration, her character becomes cringey. His Rowan is sexy, no doubt. And any other female character is acts out is fine. But Bonnie's lines in Rowan's chapters come across juvenile and it's tough find the chemistry between the two.

My constructive feedback as a audio book romance aficionado is that this would be a great audio story in duet style...using both voices as their designated character. Or maybe it's a better read.

Good book

The girl narrator was good. The male narrator was meh in this book. I couldn’t get past the way he narrated Bonnie’s voice. The story though had me laughing and smirking the entire time.

Very Meh.

This was the first romance book I've ever read. I don't think it would be fair to rate it higher or lower since I didn't have much to compare it to but also wasn't absolutely sold on the romance genre. it's was okay.

A little stiff and not in the good way.

The story is cute and quirky and the author did a wonderful job making a fun lighthearted book that would make a great vacation read.
Where I struggled and why I returned the book was with the narration. Paula did well with the accents and different speaking voices but there was no life to anyone. Antony did scottish okay but his reading was even more flat and stiff and he always made the females seem excessively silly.
Overall not a bad listen but it could have been better.

Wonderful story

Bonnie's friend, Dakota, applies for them to go to Scotland & run a coffee shop for six months. I laughed & cried during this story. The banter was witty. Both Bonnie and Dakota has some difficult but personal growth times. Both seem to find true love- Dakota with Isla and Bonnie with Rowan aka Kilty McGrumpyshire. but there's a lot of misunderstanding going around. I enjoyed listening to Antony Ferguson's Scottish accent and Paula Nederhorst did a good job, too. I hope to hear more of them in the future.

Male narrator is really unfortunate

Sorry if my rating reflects poorly on the female narrator, who was perfectly fine. But man, the male narrator was barely palatable. His Scottish accent was almost non-existent, and his female voices were annoying. I love MQ books but, unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever listen to this one again.
