Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job.
Death is the Grim Reaper of the Discworld, a black-robed skeleton with a scythe who ushers souls into the next world. He is also fond of cats and endlessly baffled by humanity. Soon Death is yearning to experience what humanity really has to offer, but to do that, he'll need to hire some help.

The Discworld novels can be enjoyed in any order, but Mort is the first book in the Death series.
The first book in the Discworld series—The Colour of Magic—was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Slightly let down by performance
Pratchett is always fantastic and I thought this would be too. Indira Varma did an excellent job with the witches series but unfortunately Sian Clifford’s performance is a bit thin. She only seems to have 2-3 voices and the delivery/emphasis is a bit off.
Death has lots more lines in Mort (obviously) compared to other books, but the ‘deep and very hoarse’ delivery doesn’t do it for me either.

Please give it to Colin Morgan!
Sorry but I didn't think much of Sian Clifford's narration. At times she seemed to be completely uninterested, and several sentences had the emphasis placed on the wrong word, completely changing heir meaning or spoiling the joke. Death was MOST EXCELLENT though, and of course the story is wonderful, classic TP.

Darker story, and a great one it is
Excellent story as usual. I laugh a bit less but is compelled to just read all the way through. Agree that the voice acting in this book can be tedious, and Rincewind feels misrepresented... Albert is fairly annoyingly read as well, but feels true to the character.

Deadly
I am a big fan of Terry Pratchett and the Discworld series. Mort was the first one I read and this audible version was spot on. Especially Bill Nighy as Death. Fabulous

Love the story
Thoroughly enjoyed this one but all of his books have been fab. Would highly recommend Terry Pratchett if you enjoy fantasy with a lot of humour
