Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The instant Sunday Times best seller.
A Financial Times, Guardian and Observer Book of the Year.
One of the Daily Telegraph's 75 Best Books of 2021.
What if you stopped trying to do everything, so that you could finally get round to what counts?
We're obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, the struggle against distraction and the sense that our attention spans are shrivelling. Still, we rarely make the connection between our daily struggles with time and the ultimate time management problem: the question of how best to use our ridiculously brief time on the planet, which amounts on average to about 4,000 weeks.
Four Thousand Weeks is an uplifting, engrossing and deeply realistic exploration of the challenge. Rejecting the futile modern obsession with 'getting everything done,' it introduces listeners to tools for constructing a meaningful life by embracing rather than denying their limitations.
Drawing on the insights of both ancient and contemporary philosophers, psychologists and spiritual teachers, Oliver Burkeman sets out to realign our relationship with time - and in doing so, to liberate us from its tyranny.
Embrace your limits. Change your life. Make your 4,000 weeks count.

Clever, thought-provoking and reassuring
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The author reads it really well, which only adds to the well-written and useful content. I also found it reassuring that the way I naturally find myself living my life is probably exactly right for me. I always felt a bit concerned that I could never follow the advice of productivity gurus; now I understand why!

This book is beyond wonderful.
And it is read, incredibly well, by the author. This guy is a genius, and one who writes about complex ideas in a way that makes them seem like it’s fun, and so they become fun.
There should be a law that everybody is made to read this book. Except that as soon as they started on it the law wouldn’t be necessary - this is one of the most rewarding books I’ve ever read or listened to.

missing piece of the puzzle
the book is incredible. it touches on so many contemporary mental challenges of the modern world and connects many dots with a very rare mastery.
I also suffer from productivity addiction and sometimes time-anxiety. I love achieving things but many times I catch myself realising that I missed so much along the way. The book gave me some invaluable new perspectives.
I have started getting deeper in Eastern philosophy since it seems they conceive time in a different way that we do it in the West. the book helped me fill some crucial gaps.
I have recently gotten into software development and we use Kanban (even that is mentioned in the book!). it's probably the most efficient way in organising, prioritising and adjusting work. I learned that you can apply that to your personal life, too.
very very recommendable for everyone, really.

inspiring and calming at once, a fabulous listen
I listened while "getting other things done" which itself is proof I needed it.

Enjoyable and important, if a little repetitive.
You can learn a lot from this book.. though really it can be summed up in a sentence of two. That said, I probably wouldn’t have paid attention to the ideas if not drawn out and repeated as much as in this book. It’s game changing when you get it so I would certainly recommend giving the book a listen!
