"A total page-turner." (Fiction's Mistress)

When her mother is sleeping with the man she loves, what's a girl to do?

Francesca is weeks away from high school graduation and the hope of escaping her self-centered, grasping family - her trashy mother and hustling twin brother. While her crush on their older neighbor holds her attention, she is blind to what everyone else can clearly see, the love her best friend, Mitch, carries in his heart for her. When her dead grandmother's high school boyfriend returns to town for his class reunion, his immediate attraction to Francesca is a game changer. Can Mr. Long - and his wealth - open up undreamed of opportunities for Francesca's future, and at what price?

Good read...I flew through this audible!

This was a good book. With all the characters to narrate, the Narrator did a great job. I love the storyline and this book put me through so many emotions. One minute I was upset, then swooning with the characters, then I was excited and just all over the place. It wasn’t a happily ever after story but it was realistic and I can see myself in the book.

I couldn't finish.

I’m not rating this story because I was unable to finish it.*

This is the second book I’ve listened to (or attempted to, in this case) by this author.
I usually love a story with multiple POVs. On that note, I wasn’t a fan. Maybe had the narrator been more favorable, I would have finished? Who knows?! I didn’t get very far into the story and I couldn’t help but notice that whenever the reader was following along to a side character or someone other than Francesca, the character seemed to rarely speak to others. It was all just narrative. I feel there should be a balance between dialogue and narrative and didn’t feel that was working here. I just couldn’t get into the story. I feel like I say this often but maybe I’ve gotten too picky with the story I read and/or listen to? I don’t know. All I do know is when I read/listen to a good book, I can usually spot the “goodness” of it right off.

I wasn’t a fan of this narrator. While he sounded like he had a nice speaking/narrating voice overall, I couldn’t get passed all the pausing! He seemed to pause at the end of every single sentence. Please don’t tell me that’s how he speaks in real life because I don’t believe it. I know not all male narrators can do a convincing female voice, so when I heard the first female character speak, I automatically thought of a drag queen. I laughed. It’s like it was obvious it was a male but then it also sounded like he was trying to sound sassy, at least to me. No thank you. Then when the story would switch to a different POV, the narrator was like “Well, I did all that pausing between sentences, so no pauses between the POVs.” It was hard to follow along basically. On a side note, when the narrator was speaking for Ricky and he calls for his mom, “mama,” that first time, the narrator sounded hilarious to me. He said “mama” is such a way as though Ricky were a toddler or a very young child.

Questions/Comments:

I didn’t understand how Francesca was so lovey dovey with her male “best friend” but in more than a best friend kind of way. In their first scene together she’s kissing his knuckles (nothing strange there especially given they’re teenagers or did she suddenly turn into an old man who thought he was about to go dancing with an old lady?), then kissing him on the cheek. Do teen females with best friends who are male typically do that?

When Mitch spoke, or should I say thought?, about how he’d invited Ricky to his b-day party, I couldn’t figure out why. They weren’t friends. It’s not like they were little kids and he was forced to invite Ricky just because he’d invited Francesca. Plus, Francesca doesn’t seem to even like her brother.

I tried so hard....

I tried so hard to get through this book because the story line was great but the narrator just didn't do it for me. He was very flat and I never knew who was supposed to be talking. I rather read this book myself instead of listen which says a lot considering I listen to books about 90% of the time.

teen angst

This story is a slow indepth development of the characters. Mitch's love for Francesca is deep, but he doesn't want to ruin their best friend status. Francesca has a crush on the older neighbor. Her mother, Francie, is an opportunist! Always looking for a man with money to use, and encouraging Francesca to be more than friends with the rich boy, Mitch.
Along comes Mr. Henry Long. He's infatuated when he sees Francesca, a duplicate of his long, lost love. When he finds out that she is the Granddaughter of his beloved Julia, he wants to get closer to her and offer an opportunity she can't refuse.
I enjoyed listening to this story narrated by Greg Young. 🎧audiobookobsessionreviewer🎧

entertaining

I was entertained by this book. But I found that it didn't really go anywhere. And all the characters were very shallow with the exception of a few. I was entertained however, and I did finish it. I just kept thinking the story would eventually take me somewhere...but it never did.

Not for the Faint of Heart

Reckless Treasure is not for the faint at heart as there are quite a few adult situations that are resolved in unique ways.

Told from multiple perspectives, Reckless Treasure is about the coming of age of a girl whose mother is sleeping with her crush, whose twin brother is the scum of the earth, and whose best friend is pinning after her but she is oblivious to his feelings and intentions. Most of the characters are not likable except perhaps for Mr. Long who has a unique perspective on it all.

If you enjoy unlikable narrators and strange love stories than this book is for you!

Very Days of our Lives

This book followed the lives of several people. All of the main characters lives were all intertwined. It had a soap opera feeling. Several of the characters lusted after someone that lusted after a different person. I liked knowing what everyone was thinking during the scene and the different POV. If you need a HEA I would not recommend this book for you. I almost wish they would have all just gone in different directions at the end instead of it just ending how it did. If you enjoy the drama of something like "Days of our Lives" or "Young and the Restless" you probably would like this book.

Definitely a page turner!

I enjoyed this book, not only because it had an interesting plot and the story was told from multiple points of view, but because the narration was excellent and it was unpredictable.

I actually listened to it twice because I wanted to review some of the earlier thought processes of the characters because they were all so interesting.

This is a great read/listen and will keep you intrigued throughout!

Dysfunctional Family Drama Indeed

Entertaining read and a great cast of characters. I liked the multiple POVs and the nod to Claiming Sleeping Beauty*wink*. The narration, unfortunately, fell a little flat for me and didn't quite do the drama justice. I will continue support, however, as I enjoyed the overall writing style :)
