A WOMAN’S WORLD BEST NEW BOOK

"Heart-breaking, validating, exciting." (Hypable)

"Rich historical detail...this saga has it all." (Woman's World)

Shining a light on a little-known piece of history The Flight Girls is a sweeping portrayal of women's fearlessness, love, and the power of friendship to make us soar.

1941. Audrey Coltrane has always wanted to fly. It's why she implored her father to teach her at the little airfield back home in Texas. It’s why she signed up to train military pilots in Hawaii when the war in Europe began. And it’s why she insists she is not interested in any dream-derailing romantic involvements, even with the disarming Lieutenant James Hart, who fast becomes a friend as treasured as the women with whom she flies. Then one fateful day, she gets caught in the air over Pearl Harbor just as the bombs begin to fall, and suddenly, nowhere feels safe.

To make everything she’s lost count for something, Audrey joins the Women Airforce Service Pilots program. The bonds she forms with her fellow pilots reignite a spark of hope in the face war, and - when James goes missing in action - give Audrey the strength to cross the front lines and fight not only for her country, but for the love she holds so dear.

"Captivated me from the first page and never let go...a powerful tale of courage and sacrifice by the Women Airforce Service Pilots during WWII. A spectacular first novel." (Sara Ackerman, USA TODAY best-selling author of The Lieutenant's Nurse)

Evocatively wonderful!

Engrossing, captivating, and absolutely beautiful! From the first words spoken by Xe, the narrator, I was hooked. A fabulously detailed, emotionally charged story; one I can easily see myself listening to again.

Interesting and very moving, quite well narrated!

This is an engaging story with realistic and endearing characters, interesting scenarios and very moving events. The autobiographical nature of the writing is very effective in placing the reader in the midst of the story - in the midst of war. It is not graphic, though it is heart wrenching at times. I especially appreciated the character development, in particular that of the main character. I was grateful the plot included unexpected twists and turns - and definitely recommend this novel to anyone interested in the achievements of these incredible women pilots, their bravery and their lives. This is also a beautiful and realistic love story that does not employee typical clichés. It’s intelligent, insightful and includes a rich relationship between the main characters, a relationship that is especially bittersweet because it grows in the midst of a terrible war. I’d like to think that this is a peek into the lives of our grandparents or great-grandparents when they were our ages and had no idea what the future held but still clinging to hope and love, and their long-held dreams. (PS ....the narrator did a terrific job creating dialogue and narration that could have been very limited as a “auto biographical narrative” -but instead it’s quite well narrated - very easy to listen to and follow, she made it very moving, very real.)

Captivating and great Pandemic read

this is not my normal style of book by any means so I was suprised by how truly captivating it is. Many authors strive to create stories so real and emotional. This is a gem and will stay with you.
