Publisher's summary

If you've ever thought, "There must be more to life than this," The Art of Non-Conformity is for you. Based on Chris Guillebeau's popular online manifesto "A Brief Guide to World Domination," The Art of Non-Conformity defies common assumptions about life and work while arming you with the tools to live differently. You'll discover how to live on your own terms by exploring creative self-employment, radical goal-setting, contrarian travel, and embracing life as a constant adventure. Inspired and guided by Chris's own story and those of others who have pursued unconventional lives, you can devise your own plan for world domination---and make the world a better place at the same time.

Redundant

I feel bad writing this review as I haven't posted a negative review for a book, ever. But after listening to this one for an hour or 2, I couldn't get past how redundant the message was. Every 5 minutes the author taunts you with his (or his friends) world travels, and how you should just pick up and go travel the world. This books is definitely guided by the authors past travels, but I didn't catch any tools or plans to help live life differently.

Maybe that comes later in the book, but again, I couldn't get past his redundant rambling on his own life. It's cool, you work where you want and when you want. I get it, just don't keep repeating it every other paragraph!

Good concept; Not the best execution

The author seems to have lived some kind of magical life in which he's done amazing things that most people wouldn't attempt, all without negative consequences. Good for him, really! But I would have liked to have some advice for people like me who want to bring some less dramatic forms of non-conformity into their lives.

Good Partner to 4 hr work week

If you liked the four hour work week, you will like this book also. The tone and narrator are much friendlier than in the four hour work week. There are less how-to examples, but more theory and positive messages. Just like 4 hour work week, it will re-set the way you think about your career and life. There is a stronger "give back" message in this book as well. I am a small business owner that spends all my time trying to get my business to run without me! I get closer every day, but not there yet. Reading books like this one reminds me of my purpose.

How???

How is this book so highly rated? DO NOT BUY unless you want to hear a commonsensical bragfest by the author!

This book spoke to me, but it won't speak to everyone

I think creatives, wanderers, vagabonds, and anyone with A.D.D. will enjoy this book. It's helped me understand the reasons I'm not so great in corporate world, though I do have skills to provide the world. It covers lots of topics: travel, business, education, friendships, and even some financials. All areas have a non-conformist way to them, though you don't need to adopt all. Keep what makes sense and forget the rest.

Changed my life

I love this book. Guillebeau got straight to the point, No fluff, priceless information. It's a must read if you are tired of sleep walking or feel like the norm is not an authentic way to live.

MOTIVATING!!

I love how the author balances out old ways of thinking versus new ways. I agree with him totally but it's a book I would send to someone that is practical, likes their comfort zone but this book would not threaten a sense of well being. I am enamored by all the resources as well!! Everyone should read this!!!!
