Publisher's summary

Jem Stonehouse, a housewife with a neurotic husband bent on keeping her in line, dreams about werewolves in what she believes is a bid to escape boredom.

Sean Holloway is a werewolf, living a charade within the human race, whose mind drifts to a bond he shares with a woman he hasn't met - at least, not in this lifetime.

Apart, the two are safe but live unfulfilled lives.

Together, they'll become prey to rival packs just as they have been for hundreds of years.

When their worlds collide, and not for the first time, instinct takes over. Dreams become reality. Futures are uncertain. To keep history from repeating itself, Sean must teach Jem about his heritage, convince her of her role, and win her love.

Can Jem accept her destiny before it's too late, or is her inner wolf buried too deep to save her future with Sean?

A good story

I wasn't sure about this book! When I started it I immediately thought Peter was horrible. Jem seemed restless with her dreams of running and wolves. I loved her friend Poppy and her sister Jess. As the story progressed & Sean finally came into the picture, I knew trouble was coming. Peter erupted and pushed Jem to Sean. That is all it took, Jem was now a Holloway. Jem took a bit to adjust to her new life but she came around quickly. The pack had formed. The only part that was disappointing was that Peter did not try to visit Jem after learning her address. I so wanted him to show up and try to drag her away. I can't wait to see what happens in book 2. I actually liked the story and will see where the series goes.

Werewolves!

It's great to read an urban fantasy werewolf book based outside of the US. This one is set in England. When we first meet Gemma, she is married to a horrendous man and having dreams about a man she's never met.

It can be quite hard to like Gemma and to read her story. Sometimes you just want to shake her for some of the decisions she makes, but unfortunately her reactions are the same that millions of women have when in an abusive relationship. But she does end up having a lot of growth by the end.

Trigger warning for domestic violence.

I received a copy from the author, all opinions are my own.

Mixed

Title: Called
Author: J.A. Belfield
Format: Audio
Narrator: Heather Lykens
Genre: Paranormal (werewolf) romance, fated lovers
Standalone: Eh
Part of a Series: Book 1 of 5 in the Holloway Pack series
POV: Jem
Steam Level: Toasty at times
3/5

Before diving into the story you need to know several things:
1. While Called completes this part of the story it definitely feels unfinished.
2. Jem is married to another man this entire book. Does the fact that Sean and Jem are fated lovers through time negate that? You can decided. Does the fact that her husband is abusive and that the beginnings of their marriage dissolution help negate that? You can decide.
3. As mentioned above, Jem does experience some violence against her (both from her husband and by other people) Be aware because I didn't see that mentioned anywhere in the description
4. It's violent with fighting and death both in human and wolf form

Some positives
1. I enjoyed the banter and wit.
2. I like Jem's evolution, becoming stronger and more confident over time.

I gave this three stars since I did finish it. Whether or not I'd continue with this series...I honestly don't know. However, I would recommend reading rather than listening to the audio version. The sound quality was inconsistent, often times changing from sentence to sentence. Also, listen to it sped up because the narrator reads soooooooo ssslllooowwwlllyyy.

I received this audiobook for free from Audiobook Obsession. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Fantastic werewolf romance

The storyline and the world created was different but I was enthralled from beginning to the end. The characters are something fierce in their own way and hot. I enjoyed it. The narrator did a great job. The pace was good for me. Anyways I want more from this author. Thank you.

The book description isn't great, but the story is surprisingly good!

After reading the description of this book and listening to the sample, I honestly thought this was going to be a terrible book.

I was quite surprised at how soon this book grabbed me and I really enjoyed it. If I were to give a description of this book, is say it has a lot of parallels with the Twighlight Series (the movies), but isn't as cheesy and depressing.

I really liked how Gem was able to walk away from Peter, who was a typical narcissist, and general asshole. I loved how, as Gem discovered her identity and embraced it, she grew in the strong and courageous woman she was always meant to be.

Even though her pack kinda restricted her movements, and I did feel that she's gone from one controlling situation to another, I had to remind myself, that a wild pack operates this way and the protective and controlling bond the pack has, is what makes it successful.

My favorite character was by far: Poppy! I love how caring and quirky she is! I love how she was and probably will always be a light for the downtrodden. I missed her towards the end of the book.

Thank you to both the author and the narrator. Well done.

Interesting werewolf romance

I really enjoyed the plot, it was different and interesting. I did find the writing style different and was hard for me to get into but I did really enjoy it once I got into it. The narration was slow for me.
