Between the Shadows

Time travel at its finest! This book is the 3rd in the Lake Lanier Mysteries series. While it can be enjoyed as a stand alone, it is definitely more mind blowing when the books are read/listened to in order.

The present day mystery of the ghost of the lake has prompted a time jump to over 160 years in the past. Saving one person could lead to sacrificing another and possibly changing the future (present) as it is known.

Casi McLean has woven a very detailed tale. The twists and turn kept me guessing and the mind blowing reveal at the end was awesome!

The narration by Kristin James was very enjoyable. Great timing, emotion and differing voices. I would not hesitate to listen to more of her performances.

I couldn't finish the book.

I was so distracted by the exaggerated way that the narrator spoke that I could not concentrate on the story. I had to stop listening.

I see that lots of other people enjoyed this book, so maybe it is just me.

I suggest listening to the audio sample before purchasing.

Loved it

I loved this book. Time travel romance is one of my favourite genres so I couldn't wait to jump into this story.
I probably should have started at book one to get a complete picture and full enjoyment but this book can easily be listened to as a standalone.
The narration was very good and made very easy listening. The characters were performed excellently.
The story line was different and intriguing. I couldn't wait to see what happened next and I wanted to listen to the story in one sitting.

This was a very good, entertaining listen and I will be checking out the earlier books in the series.

Fascinating from the very start

Wow what an interesting book this is. I love time travel and this was better then most. Not reading/listening to the first two did make it a tad confusing in the beginning so if you are in to time travel I would pick up at least the first one as I have no doubt you will be back for this one. For example it took me half the book to figure out if York was from the past or the future, it didn’t matter which it was as it makes no difference in the book I am just one of those readers who wants all the answers. Anyway. I loved the storyline, I can’t wait to get the first two books and meet Sandy and to find out York’s story. The ending was PERFECT! Definitely recommend

Great Book

This book is a awesome roller coaster through time. I absolutely love the time travel box. I feel like there is not enough out there. This take on time travel is very unique to anything that I’ve ever read before. The author weaves a tale where it is seamless and you don’t have an issue following the different timelines. You really feel like you are in each time zone. Your work is probably one of my favorite main characters and McKenzie are just amazing.

This is the first book that I’ve heard Kristen James narrator and I think she did an absolutely phenomenal job. There were characters in the book that had different accents and to me they did not sound fake at all. Her pace and tone overall it was very consistent which for me is important because a narrator can really make or break and audiobook and I had no issue listening to her at all.

The production of the audiobook is the way they sound was really consistent. There was no back noise from what I could hear.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Casi McLean. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Narration makes this audiobook a masterpiece

Summary –

A ghost with a warning, a cache of stolen gold, Kenzi must go back in time to find the answers. After her friend York shares with Kenzi the ghostly vision, Kenzi goes back in time to 1865. She’s a bit disorientated but determined to save the young girl from death. What Kenzi doesn’t realize is that she’s in the middle of a deadly plot dealing with stolen Confederate gold. She’s taken hostage by a handsome soldier named James. Torn between helping her friend York and her newfound love, James, Kenzi has a difficult choice to make.

Narrator’s overall voice –

Kristin James is an excellent narrator, and her voice is well-trained. She gives each character a different inflection which adds to my enjoyment of the story. Her accent is soothing to those listening. Kristin’s performance is excellent and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

Does the narrator fit the characters?

Yes, Kristin James embodies each character and breathes new life in them. As I was listening, I found myself envisioning the story through Kristin’s narration.

Narrator’s reading style –

Kristin James has a voice made for audiobooks. Her voice is well-trained and takes on each character with a certain flair I’ve not heard before.

Narrator’s impact on reading experience –

Kristin James brings the story to life. She elicits so much energy, the reader can’t help but become part of the story. When I finished listening, I wanted to listen to it all over again.

Narrator’s pacing –

Kristin James has the perfect pacing in Between the Shadows. She slows down when the scene calls for dramatic tension or flair. She speeds up when the story needs a pulse-pounding effect.

Audiobook flow –

The audiobook flows seamlessly as if Kristin James is reading one of her own stories. Kristin becomes part of what makes this such a gripping read/listen.

What makes this audiobook unique –

I’m a big fan of time travel romance and Kristin James performs it beautifully. The listener is whisked away to the past and the experience is unforgettable.

Time travel 1865/2018

If you like time travel romantic suspense, don't miss this one! I haven't read the other books in this series, but was not lost. I felt the first third of this book was slow. But I realize it all needed to be set up and laid out. When the action finally started, Wow! It didn't let up. Exciting. Complicated. Back and forth in history. Then, the ending......so nice and all put together!
I was gifted an Audible version by the author through Story Origin. The narrator was so believable with different voices for each character. Excellent job.
