Summary
Tess and Gus are meant to be. They just haven't met properly yet. And perhaps they never will....
'Today is the first day of the rest of your life' is the motto on a plate in the kitchen at home, and Tess can't get it out of her head, even though she's in Florence for a final idyllic holiday before university. Her life is about to change forever - but not in the way she expects.
Gus and his parents are also on holiday in Florence. Their lives have already changed suddenly and dramatically. Gus tries to be a dutiful son but longs to escape and discover what sort of person he is going to be.
For one day the paths of an 18-year-old girl and boy crisscross before each returns to England. Over the course of the next 16 years, life and love will offer them very different challenges. Separated by distance and fate, there's no way the two of them are ever going to meet each other properly...or is there?

Very believable story and not all luvvy duvvy although lovely
I really did enjoy this book. Believable characters with believable stories. Maybe I loved it even more as it starts in Italy and the main male character loves Italian cooking, plus there are a few Italian words thrown around. It is just a really nice easy book to listen to even though I am sure it will hit a few chords with some people for some of the storylines. Very believable and thoroughly enjoyable. Looking out for the next one now!

Love story
A beautifully written love story which was tender and touching and also funny at times....would make a great film and will appeal to any die hard romantics and lovers of one day /the versions of us/sliding doors. Maybe ending a bit predictable but definitely a great listen

Never really got going, for me
I bought the book based on some favourable reviews. The story sounded interesting but once I got into it, it didn't really grab me. The hero/heroine run their lives in parallel for around 16 years, having first exchanged a sentence or two when they were 18 years old in Italy. They obviously meet up again at the end of the book, but it feels rushed when they finally meet and what doesn't feel right, is their declared love for each other after only a few hours together. It seemed a long, drawn-out process, for very little gain at the end. I apologise to those who loved this book. On the plus side, I thought Teresa and her sister Hope were interesting characters, but Angus I thought was so shallow & weak (or maybe that was just the way the narrator chose to portray him), and when he cheated on his girlfriend of 6 years, I went off him completely & didn't really care what happened to him in the end

Captivating
This book had me captivated. I feel like I got to know the two main characters Tess and Gus very well. Both their stories were intriguing and showed how life events change who we are and the paths we take. Both narrators acted the parts well, which added to the story. When the ending came it was bittersweet.

Loved this!
A really multi-layered book which weaves through 20yrs of two people who are destined to be togethers, lives. We see how they navigate through their own stories, to reach the point they finally are ready to embrace one another and have a future as a couple. It plays with Destiny, serendipity, hope, 'the one' and unmet dreams, regrets and personal evolution.

exceptional
An exceptional read in every way. Believeable, likeable characters with exceptional descriptions. wonderful humour, intelligent observations. Best novel I have read in a very long time and I read at least 2 a week. I look forward to the next from an author who has obviously lived an interesting life.

Just so lovely
This book is full of twists and unexpected turns. In the beginning you think you know the story BUT you don't in this case.
It takes you through a plether of emotions and what ifs. Well worth a listen.
