Publisher's summary

He left to travel the world for fame and glory, but only after spurning Gabby Ward and crushing her young heart. Now Hunter Markham has come back home to the sand and salty breeze of the North Carolina Outer Banks so he can open up Last Call, a beach bar nestled among the dunes of the Atlantic.

Gabby Ward is not happy that Hunter has returned. Bitter over his rebuff years before, she's content to stay far away from him and his dangerously charming ways. Gabby's well-schemed plans to ignore Hunter go up in flames when he presents an offer to her that she simply can't refuse, throwing them together in a common quest to each reach their goals. Working together day in and day out proves to be problematic for Gabby, who soon realizes that the feelings she had for him are still very much alive.

Hunter struggles to reach through to Gabby's cold heart, all while starting a new career away from his life as a top-ranked professional surfer. What starts out as a mutual business arrangement soon turns into a passion that neither of them can continue to deny. Hard choices lay ahead for both of them when Hunter is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to return to the pro surfing tour. Choices that could destroy what they have built or take them further than they ever had dared to hope.

Great Listen

I make no secret of the fact that i love Sawyer's books but i did wonder how On The Rocks would compare to The Off Series. No worries there this book did not disappoint.
Hunter Markham is a world class surfer and he has returned home to open and run a beach bar called Last Call with his twin brother Brody. When he left 5 years ago he broke his sister's best friend Gabby Ward's heart by dismissing a kiss.
Gabby Ward is now running her late fathers construction company and if she wants the business to go forward she needs to bid on the refit of Last Call. Can she work with Hunter without feeling the pain of her broken heart. Can this just be business
Both fight their attraction for each other until fate takes a hand with a broken down car in the rain
Hunter- " I figured out that you and I ...that we're going to happen no matter what"
Gabby- The minute he utters those words i know they're true.
What follows is a passionate love affair with twists and turns as people from Hunter's past come back into their life's.
Does Hunter want to compete again?
Can he rely on Brody to run Last Call ? Brody has his own problems in his life and he has made it clear he does not want to be a partner
Does Gabby have the right to make the choice for him ?
i guess you will need to read the book to get the full story .......

i have no doubt that this series will be as big as The Off Series is and i can't wait to read Brody's Story (less)

same story

ok. I want to start off by saying I like Sawyer Bennett books. But not this one. I've been wanting to read this for a while. I finally purchased it because I love Douglas Berger. He is a fantastic narrator. But the story was the same as about a dozen others I've read. ..... slight spoilers....
second chance love, girl wants to hide relationship.... disaster..... relationship is good.... girl decides she knows best and ends relationship with the boy's 'best interest' at heart. uggh. it ends with an Hea. That's about all I can say about it. Not sure I'll read the next one. I'll find something else of Sawyer's to read.

Sweet Romance and a Pleasant Beach Read

I enjoyed the story and was drawn into the relationship between Hunter and Gabby, but the plot was fairly predictable. I would like to have heard more description of the Outer Banks setting. The overuse of the word "said" to mean aforementioned was the only thing that bothered me, but that was only occasional. The narrators were excellent, although his Carolina accent was better than hers. And I would know as a Carolina girl myself.

A good story.

I listened to the audio version of this book. I really liked the female narrator, Bunny Warren. I didn't like Douglas Berger quite as much.
I like Sawyer Bennet. She delivers steamy romances with stories that hold their own. The development is good and I usually can't wait to see where the romance will take the characters next. On the Rocks did not disappoint.
What I did find disappointing in this book was it started out with a scene of underage drinking that is supposedly supported and promoted by the parents. Not only is that morally wrong, but at least in my state that is illegal. Yes, there was lots of steamy scenes in the book and maybe I should just get over myself. Having worked in a Level 2 trauma hospital and seeing what can happen to young teens with alcohol, it's just not something I take lightly.
Overall the story was very entertaining.

Characters act like NA or YA

I cannot understand why she wants to keep the relationship a secret. There’s never a reason other than “people will talk” basically, which is so immature it’s annoying.

Enjoyable

Really enjoyed this book. It is the perfect summer/beach read. Being set in the Outerbanks is what drew me to the book. I loved it! Highly recommend if you want a good and easy listen.

Brilliant story

This book was so good I couldn’t stop listening. This is what I liked:
* Good storyline
* Characters that is described in a way that makes them feel familiar from the first chapter
* The chemistry between the main characters is sizzling hot from first moment
* No unnecessary descriptions of surroundings
* A lot of dialogues that’s making the story fun and intriguing
* Love scenes is steaming hot and also tender and sweet
As for the narrators, the performance is very good, pronunciation clear. The reading is made with feelings and that helped even more with the story coming alive.

I really enjoyed this book and want to continue to the next as soon as my wallet allows 😜
This is a series but can be read as standalone and I highly recommend it.
