Publisher's summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author J.R. Ward is heating things up this winter with a holiday novel featuring some of her most iconic Black Dagger Brothers.

When Trez lost his beloved to a tragic death (The Shadows, Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 13), his soul was crushed and his destiny seemed relegated to suffering. But when he meets a mysterious female, he becomes convinced his true love has been reincarnated. Is he right? Or has his grief created a disastrous delusion?

Therese has come to Caldwell to escape a rift with her bloodline. The revelation that she was adopted and not born into her family shakes the foundations of her identity, and she is determined to make it on her own. Her attraction to Trez is not what she’s looking for, except the sexy Shadow proves to be undeniable.

Has fate provided a grieving widower with a second chance...or is Trez too blinded by the past to see the present for what it really is? In this sensual, arresting book full of the themes of redemption and self-discovery, two lost souls find themselves at a crossroads where the heart is the only compass that can be trusted...but that may require a courage that neither of them possesses.

HEA, finally

I loved The Shadows, Trez and Iam. I loved this book also and maybe a tad bit more. We see in this book our totally devastated Trez, coping with an attraction to Therese, the spitting image of his beloved Selena. How is it that she looks so much like his beloved not just to him but to others of the BDB. The two must cope with this attraction as Therese is drawn to him just as much as he is to her. Two lost souls struggling to come to terms with something neither completely understands. And just what part does the ever intriguing Lassiter have to play in all of this? A fantastic read.

Felt more like a novella

so basically this felt like a novella. Nowhere near the intensity I'm use to expecting from BDB. Still it was a nice listen. I just thought there would be more to Tres's story.

BDB Love...

Spoilers....

Trez deserves his HEA. The build up to it was an enjoyable read moving parts of a few of other characters' stories forward a bit as well. Like hello more baby news. The Warden does not disappoint.. The way Lassiter reveals but doesn't his "first miracle" is so awesome. The Home Alone reference is a great add for the season. Because the pizza scene....Cannot wait for The Sinner. Can't wait!

Trez get's his HEA through reincarnation!

As always J. R. Ward has done it again. How she keeps coming up with these story lines is beyond me, but I'm so happy she does. In the next chapter of the BDB series, we see Trez come full circle in his life with the Chosen Selena. After watching him go through loosing the love of his life and the depression of living without her, we see how he's been dealing with everyone and everything else just trying to hang on. Your heart broke for him when he first lost her, this time your heart breaks as he almost looses himself. because of his grief. Than our wonderful, lovely fallen angel Lassiter does what he does best., brings a miracle to fruition in a way that only he can! Trez meets the reincarnated Therese and falls head over ears for her. Why? Because something in him knows she is Selena come back to him. But what do you do when you are afraid to believe or hope in that belief? Trez and Therese have to navigate their way around a complicated love affair situation and when it's all over, you'll be crying again for the happiness that has finally come to our beloved Shadow! Big props to Lassie - clause for being the Angel with a heart. (I can't wait to hear his backstory)!

The bonus is the first chapter of The Sinner. The Warden sure knows how to get you salivating for the next book!

Another great book!

I loved this book. I knocked it down a star because it wasnt as good as the rest of the series as far as involvement. This was more of a side story focusing on Tres.

Good

This was book 17.5 in the "Black Dagger Brotherhood " series. Trez lost his mate in a tragic death in book 13 of this series he has been going through the motions and everyone is worried about him. Therese has come to Caldwell to escape her family she is the new waitress at Sal's the restaurant that Iam owns and she is a death ringer for his dead shellan Selena. Turns out something drew her to Caldwell and Therese doesn't know what. When she goes to a club with a co-worker Therese finds herself in the middle of a shot out and Trez saves her which leads to them having sex. This book didn't have all the action as the other books in this series. This book was more about these two finding there way back together with the help of an angel. This book was well written and read as I listened and read with no errors in grammar or spelling. I loved the narration. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
