Publisher's summary

Stealing a shard of a dead god’s blood should have been enough adventure for a lifetime. For William Reis, it was just the beginning.

William has a single goal in his life, to succeed where generations of others have failed, and gain admittance to the Smithing Guild of Palnor. Men and women from the Reach have tried for years, but all have failed. They have failed for a single reason, a commandment from the Church of Amder. No one from the Reach can ever gain entrance to the Guild. A decree that remains unknown all but the Masters of the Guild, and even they don't know why.

Williams’s efforts make him a target and unleashes a violent and insane evil that needs one thing to claim the world, the end of the Reis bloodline. From the heights of the city of Ture, to the depths of the dungeons of the Temple of Amder, William must find a way to survive.

As he faces his own wavering resolve and long held grief, William must vanquish all who oppose him. To release those who have been corrupted, to stop the return of an ancient and sadistic evil, and to heal the world of Alos, William Reis must accept a fate he never wanted.

Outstanding Fantasy Escape

This was one of the best performances that I have heard in an audiobook. I had NO trouble seperating the characters (a common complaint that usually knocks off 1 star) and I actually enjoyed the tone and pacing.

Now for the story ... this is pretty much a standard fantasy trope executed well. The world building was solid and revealed through character interactions or dialog (I didn't notice any info dumps, so I must assume they were appropriate when they exist). Main characters were well developed and fairly independent of each other with the expected growth for the main protagonist. The story ended well (yes, I am a sucker for good endings) and wrapped upon most of the major plot conflicts in this book, so it can easily stand alone (with the epilogue introducing a possible sequel); that was also well done and is another common complaint I have with current fantasy stories. I highly recommend this story and I am looking forward to the sequel!

Little Dark but outstanding

Excellent book I highly recommend. Like I said it is a little dark but the characters are great and the writing draws you in. Good audio performance also.

Excellent Epic Fantasy

I really enjoyed this book. The narration was wonderful and the story itself was engrossing and detailed. This was my first from this author and I was so pleased with the character development (it progressed as they went along, just like real people) and the story world. There was lots of action and lots of traveling. A true epic fantasy. I'd recommend this for all fans of epic fantasy or sword and sorcery type stories and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Loved it

I am a huge Epic Fantasy fan and this book did not disappoint. I couldn't stop listening. The narrator was great and I liked that he used different accents to help differentiate between the characters. I definitely recommend it to any Epic Fantasy fan.

Blood of a Fallen God

Fantastic world building and characters. I found things moved a bit slow at the beginning as some of the background was introduced, but before I knew it, I was sucked right in. I enjoyed this story of William following his destiny to become the Forgemaster

Joshua C. Cook has set the stage for what is sure to be an epic series. I hope there is more to come!

This was my first listen performed by Eric Bryan Moore. I was entertained and would not hesitate to listen to more of his work.

Epic Fantasy

This is a tale of opposing gods who want to return to their world and each god has chosen a champion. The tale unfolds as each champion works to aid their god into returning and details the struggles that each champion must endure to accomplish that task. The plot thickens as one chosen champion takes control over the opposing champion's family member and the action continues to rev up from there. I found the book to be very enjoyable and recommend it to all readers.

Dammit I think I'm hooked on another series!

Dammit I think I'm hooked on another series!

This book didn't start out easy for me. Nothing to do with the story that's FANTASTIC but the narrators attempt at Scottish brogue just rubbed me the wrong way!! LOL

I don't know if I got used to it or he got better at it but i was able to let that go and get on with the story! I have to say i loved this story and can't wait for book 2 to come out.

Great Fantasy novel with detailed characters

Blood of a Fallen God is a great start to a Fantasy series. It mainly follows William Reis and his cousin Duncan. William is a blacksmith and his one goal in life is to gain admittance into the smithing guild, the only problem with that is that he lives in the Reach and for some reason over the last generations nobody from the reach has ever been accepted. With that premise you might not think that much can come from that but the book is very entertaining, really builds the world and its backstory and has plenty of mysteries. There are gods or at least 'dead' gods involved, there are cults who worship an Evil god and zombie like creatures that do their bidding.

The narration by Eric Bryan Moore is great and fits the tone and style of book quite well. The character development and interaction between characters is also well done. I would definitely recommend this book as it was quite enjoyable and a great start to the Forgemaster Cycle, I am very interested in further installments.

Fresh tale on a stale genre

Overall very good book. Fast paced, well conceived world, good bit of mystery, and the right amount of darkness without going full Weaveworld. Personally I'd love to see more development in the side characters, especially the romantic interest, she was a little flat and didn't seem to truly want anything more than proximity to the main character. I look forward to the rest of the cycle.

Blacksmith gold

I won’t say this was a fast paced book like some others, but it did not disappoint and it did not slow down. Pulling some standard genre pieces, such as the small town boy secretly destined for greatest, it still brought something new feeling to the basic fantasy. It did not overly rely on magic, though it was there, nor an abundance of fantastical beasts (also there).

BoaFG still a story about Will trying to achieve his life long goal of becoming a Guild Blacksmith, something people from The Reach never could do. What follows is a Will being thrust into an ancient war, dead gods looking to be resurrected, church and guild political battles and one boy just trying to live his best life.

While it looks like there are more books in the series, this is a solid stand alone I would highly recommend.
