Summary
A brand-new stand-alone novella in the Rivers of London series!
Tobias Winter has been assigned to the Abteilung KDA - the Department for Complex and Unspecific Matters.
Despite the intriguing department name, as Winter explains, dealing with the strange and the supernatural is 'actually 90 percent paperwork'. But this is a story about the other 10 percent of the job: the life-threatening danger part.
This is a tale about the Queen of the Harvest, the October Man, and the little-known time the vineyard around Trier started to eat people....
Winter may be P. C. Peter Grant's German counterpart, but surviving this investigation is entirely down to him....

enjoyed far more than I thought I would!
I love the Rivers of London series and I think the Kobna Holbrook Smith is one of the most talented narrators I've ever listened to, so I was unsure of what to expect from October Man and Sam Peter Jackson - but I really enjoyed it and I'd like more please!

outstanding performance
I thought Kobna Holdbrook Smith was brilliant but Sam Peter Jackson is just as good.

Quite enjoyable
A fun dip into the wider universe of Rivers of London. I don't know if Ben Aaronovitch is planning on writing more from the expanded universe but it could be amazing to learn more about the connections between each countries practitioners.

Hard to follow at times
Good story and the narrator was great but it was difficult to follow the German names and terminology on audio - I got muddled as to which police department was which and kept having to rewind. In the end I got it on Kindle and that made things easier.

loved it
I loved this. I was worried as it did not have Peter Grant and wasn't narrated by Kobna Holdbrook Smith. I didn't have to.
the story was brilliant and different while being in the same universe as rivers of london. the narrator was also brilliant. I want the full length novels to start appearing now please!

Good short Novella
I’ve loved the rivers of London series since the first book came out so was a bit concerned about a change of characters and narrator however I needn’t have been.
Although this is a standalone I would be very keen to hear more about our Germanic magical cousins!!
