Publisher's summary

From the number-one New York Times best-selling author of the popular Black Dagger Brotherhood series comes a brand-new novel about arson investigator Ann Ashburn, who is consumed by her troubled past, her family’s scorched legacy, and her current case: chasing a deadly killer.

Anne Ashburn is a woman consumed....

By her bitter family legacy, by her scorched career as a firefighter, by her obsession with department bad-boy Danny McGuire, and by a new case that pits her against a fiery killer.

Strong-willed Anne was fearless and loved the thrill of fighting fires, pushing herself to be the best. But when one risky decision at a warehouse fire changes her life forever, Anne must reinvent not only her job, but her whole self.

Shattered and demoralized, Anne finds her new career as an arson investigator a pale substitute for the adrenaline-fueled life she left behind. She doesn't believe she will ever feel that same all-consuming passion for her job again - until she encounters a string of suspicious fires setting her beloved city ablaze.

Danny McGuire is a premiere fireman, best in the county, but in the midst of a personal meltdown. Danny is taking risks like never before and seems to have a death wish until he teams up with Anne to find the fire starter. But Danny may be more than a distraction, and as Anne narrows in on her target, the arsonist begins to target her.

From the creator of the bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood, get ready for a new band of brothers. And a firestorm.

Good Story - Why So Many

I am of two minds about this book. I'm a huge BDB fan and I love JR Ward's writing style but this book just didn't do it for me. To start I wasn't invested in the main characters. I just didn't care about their relationship. The story line was hard to follow until the end where it wrapped up and all the little pieces fell into place. Finally, there are four narrators and I am still scratching my head over that creative decision. At first I thought perhaps each of the main characters would have a unique voice but, for example, when the female protagonist was voiced by both female and male narrators I was left wondering why there was a need for four. I think this audio book would have been much better if there had been only one. I'm giving this book three stars for two reasons. First because it's the first book in a series and first books can sometimes stumble but then recover in the next one. Second, while all the narrators were great and very talented having four of them was distracting and unnecessary. Will I listen to the next in the series? Probably. Mostly because I'm curious to see where Ms. Ward takes us next. I'm holding out hope book two will be better and that there will be only one narrator.

This is the first in a new series about a group/family of Firefighters. This book starts with a huge scene involving the two main characters Danny & Anne. Danny is a headstrong firefighter who no matter what, puts his fellow firefighters first and wouldn't leave anyone behind no matter the consequence, especially to himself. Anne is also a firefighter who seems to always have to prove herself, maybe in her own eyes at least. This book was filled with suspense, mystery and some romance too. I found the mystery a little predictable and the wrap up a little far fetched. I enjoyed the characters very much and can't wait to see who the next book is about. I'm hoping it Tom ;)

The narration was fun, I loved that each POV gets their own voice, even if I may not have picked that specific voice for that character. All the narrators were great but I will say I did notice a few incorrect pronunciation. All in all though, I really like all of these narrators.

Decent but not good.

I love DBD and the Fallen Angels. This story was exciting in the beginning then boring until the last few chapters. It ended abruptly. I just don’t like this new style of writing. I will still look forward to her other series.

Consumed

This book was pretty great, it wasn’t just a story of two people struggling to come together it was a full cast of stories and how each person comes to be involved.

I loved Anne and everything she went through, she grew up from who she was at the beginning of the book and it was much needed. But what I liked best was that it wasn’t easy she had to come to some pretty hard truths to get to where she was when she was ready for Danny.

Danny goes through a lot too but I also feel like he is still working on himself but admitting he needs someone to talk to was half the battle.
The relationship between Anne and Danny is a struggle they go from being friends to having this tragic thing happen, to not speaking, to finding a new way for them to be involved. I loved the struggle it shows realisticness of being human nothing is cut and dry. Emotions are messy.

Reading about a fire isn’t easy for me I have an unnatural fear of it so reading about it and even watching TV shows about it gives me the willies. But I made it through and I have more appreciation for the men and women who do this kind of job.

I did wish the book steam factor was steamier. It was pretty tame, compared to other JR books. I was expecting scorching and it was just steam.

I loved the multi-narration, I didn’t think it would matter to me either way but I was surprised at how much I liked it. Each character getting their own voice it really brought the story to life in a way I don’t think 2 narrators could have done.

Who cares

about their love life? I tried this book because I was hoping it would be the fire procedural equivalent to a police procedural.
There is a mystery there, but it takes forever to resolve what with the intervening drama. The four narrators were a MAJOR distraction.

Consumed is consuming!

Loved this book, the twists, the turns and the characters.

They run deep and are very relatable. The action is good and the lead character is a tough woman!!! #GirlPower! I'm proud of Ann's determination and character.

I felt like I was watching a movie.

Firefighters love.

J.R. Ward has done it again. This new storyline is awesome as she takes us into the lives of Firefighters. The job is not a simple one, but as you read on you know anything can happen. It takes a special person to be a Firefighter. Come and meet some amazing people. The character's voices were done so well. I am looking forward to more of this series.⚘⚘⚘

Another wonderful book by JR Ward!!!

I love JR Ward! And and this book did not disappoint! All of the cast of characters were so well developed that I felt like I could read their minds! The firefighter storyline is genius and everything that follows the initial fire story I couldn’t wait to get to! Im hoping there are more!!

This is the first 4 narrator book I’ve listened to, and after listening to ALL of the BDB books, I was expecting Jim Frangione, and he’s not the first voice! The other 3, Hilary Huber, Jason Carpenter and Pete Simoneli we’re good as well!!

Perfection

I was so excited for a new series from JR Ward, and as always, she didn't disappoint. The narration was on a whole new level and much more of a production. Loved this book!

I can't believe this is a JR Ward book.

Struggled to finish this. This is not something I would have expected from this great author.
