Publisher's summary

My life was never black and white. Heck, it wasn't even black, white and gray.

Lines were not drawn between good and evil, and if they were, I would have jumped those suckers for fun.

But now it was simpler. It wasn't black and white. Or gray. It was only one thing. Blood.

A crimson-tinted world. That was all I needed. All I wanted. Him.

Despite the war raging around us, or the secrets between us, there was nothing simpler than blood.

It didn't matter that it would be fatal. After all, it's the things we're not undead without that will kill us in the end.

Contains mature themes.

Ok but..

I love the different story line & overall concept.. the main characters anger over Thorne & Rick’s “secret” was annoying.. seriously? Lasted entirely too long. It wasn’t even that big a deal.. but overall good story

This is a good series but...

leave the Trump jokes and all political stuff out. If I wanted to hear about Trump I would turn my tv on. Totally ruined this series for me.

Fell Short

I had a really hard time finishing this book. I was happy with the heroin still being juvenile and sassy, but the ridiculous and frequent love declarations from the love interest was just too much. This almost felt like it was written by someone completely different than the first book. The story was hard to follow; I could barely understand the prophecies, and it was just all around lackluster. The last hour of the book was the most interesting, but still didn't make up for the blah of the rest. Very disappointing.

COULDN'T FINISH...

I initially liked the story because I finally found a badass, snarky & humorous female lead but this 2nd book draaaags. Also, she became incredibly reckless and stupid. At least before, her self preservation was strong but now she nose dives into dangerous situations with no care or thought and almost dies every time now. ugh, very frustrating

Annoying Protagonist

The narration was great, but the characters are EXHAUSTING. Isla is entirely too flippant and sparky. I could go for it if it was just when she was trying to lighten a mood, but it is constant and tiring. I read the first book and couldn't even finish this on because of her. Scott did a dramatic 180 with no explanation similar to Thorne in the first book with his sudden change. The story didn't hook me enough for me to care about finishing the series at all. Add in the multiple Trump references, and you have a book worth skipping over! So disappointed that I wasted so much time on the first 1.5 books in the series.

Why is Thorn written so terribly?

I couldn't stand any scene that hard thorn in it. He was written terribly, and if he wasn't spouting cliches, he was being an alpha tool. I know that's a common trope in these sorts of books to have the sassy independent woman find love with some alpha jerk that they work because she tempers his being an alpha jerk but in this the main character never tempers it and allows him to run wild. It makes his character so unlikable that I was rooting for his death every time he showed up.

I was enjoying the rest of the book for the most part because I liked the main character. I can handle a subpar story and writing if I like the main character enough to root for them, but despite that, there isn't enough intriguing about the series to keep me vested.

there was potential here, but it was squandered more often than realized. the first act just sort of fell into the main characters' lap without them really having to do anything and had virtually no payoff. more over it took what should have been the consequences from the first book and just wrote them away, meaning that they never mattered or had any value in the first place. The secret that the second act centered around had potential, but it also slowly died out with no payoff and what was supposed to be the pay off (meeting the person in the sewers and her trip to the cave) did not come about because of any consequence of the secret or its fall out. it was just happenstance.

The final act was at least compelling but not enough to save the book. especially when it featured Thorn being a tool so very often.

narration was great. The story, unfortunately, was not.

Not as good as the first book.

I liked the first book with the snark and conflict between the characters but this one makes me think the author was under a time crunch and just didn't put much thought into developing the plot, or the dialog. It was very hard to follow MC thoughts and she repeated herself to much. I honestly thought about skipping chapters. Too much of this story is in her head and rambling. I don't think I care enough to continue the series...not enough plot and too much blah, blah, blah....boring.
