Publisher's summary

At 23, Poe Montgomery is going nowhere. He still lives in his father’s basement and spends most of his time tagging with his friends. When an arrest lands him in debt, Poe accepts the front desk job at Permanent Ink, the tattoo shop owned by his father’s best friend, Jericho McAslan. Jericho is nearly twice Poe’s age, but with his ink and prematurely graying hair, he quickly takes the starring role in Poe’s hottest fantasies.

Jericho is known for his ability to transform poorly designed tattoos into works of art, but he was once as aimless and misdirected as Poe. Wanting to pay it forward the way someone once did for him, Jericho makes Poe his apprentice and is determined to keep things strictly professional. Easier said than done when Poe makes his interest - and his daddy kink - abundantly clear.

Jericho can’t resist Poe or their intense chemistry for long. But between the age gap, tension with Poe’s father, and Poe’s best friend calling him a sellout, they’ll need to ensure they’re both on the same page before they can rewrite their rocky start into something permanent.

Great read

Poe and Jericho were both lovely complex characters. Each grew and changed because of their relationship. The plot and relationship developed believably. Kirt brought the whole thing to life beautifully. Throughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Really good story

Permanent ink is about a troubled boy name Poe. He still lives at home with his dad. His dad has had to bail him out of jail because of his behavior. His fathers best friend Jericho owns a tattoo shop, and is willing to give Poe a job. Jericho is a lot older then Poe, but sparks fly anyway. Permanent ink was very well written, and I can’t wait to read more books by both authors . As for the narrator, he did a good job, I just wasn’t crazy about him

Loved it!!!

This was my first read by these authors and did I LOVE it!! First let me say Kirt Graves thank you for your narration. You were fantastic!! I could feel the emotions of the characters you portrayed. As I was reading this I was thinking I wish this was a movie with you as the main character. So thank you for bringing these characters to life!!

I felt for Poe. He had so many internal struggles he was battling. He was such a mess at the beginning but after meeting Jericho he became a whole new person. Poe’s love for his street art was beautiful but to see the change in him to find something new was even more beautiful. I loved Jericho’s take no crap attitude and even when Poe was acting like a spoiled child he didn’t give up on him. The building of their love was beautiful as well.

Thank you for these beautiful characters and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Great!

I loved this story. Poe and Jericho had an unusual relationship, since Jericho was Poe's boss and also his father's best friend. There were moments that I felt that Poe was acting too immature or that Jericho was acting too fatherly, but the characters felt this way themselves and corrected their attitudes. The daddy kink was fun, and the information about tagging and tattooing were fascinating to me. I wanted to slap Poe's friend Blue then hug him. I really liked Poe and Jericho, and the authors made sure I understood them. I felt that the major secondary characters were well also well developed. I hope to see book 2 sometime soon!
The narrator's performance was excellent. I've listened to him before and will happily do so again.

Excellent

This was such a surprisingly enjoyable book. While generally a fan of Piper Vaughn, I've never read anything by Avon Gail. Moreover, I tend to avoid stories with age gaps when the younger person seems stuck in perpetual adolescence and I especially avoid them when Daddy kinks are involved, but I’m glad I took a chance with this one. The characters, their development and the flow of the story were so well done and engaging that I couldn’t help but eventually root for Poe even though I usually have a hard time connecting with characters like him, which speaks to the skill of the writing. Between the vibrancy of the characters and a story full of compassion, frustration and bratty, flirty fun, “Permenant Ink” definitely leaves its mark.

Maybe it's not the story.... but beware

This is one of those stories that had me both really involved and somewhat frustrated. I think the writers did a terrific job of “moving”me – meaning I definitely “felt” something – which is at least part of what writing is supposed to do.

I thought the characters, the premise, the cover!, the sexual tension and the art were all amazing and really well-done.

We’ve got an older guy and a punk and some serious artistic talent all mixed together. When you add in the fact that the punk’s father is the other MC’s friend… yeah. Serious tension!

For me, where things started to move away from “Awesome!” to “Hmmmm” – was how the two MCs interacted. Some people really like the “Daddy” kink but I’m not one of them. It wasn’t overplayed here and definitely wasn’t “awful” but it was definitely a main part of the story. The balance of power was never equal (IMHO) and despite the fact that the authors (bravely) called attention to it – the fact that Jericho acted like Poe’s dad then fucked him hard never felt good or remotely romantic.

While it may have gained momentum had the story continued on, Poe and Jericho’s relationship never gained enough strength for me to feel good about it going the distance – long term. Poe had a “miraculous” personality change and began toeing the line, Jericho wanted to have sex with him and did, somewhere along the line they declared their love. I didn’t see the actual love really manifest or develop.

I really wish we’d gotten to see more of Poe and his art – separate from the tattooing and Jericho. I really felt like he bowed to the dictates of Jericho and Landon and more or less put it aside for something more “grown up” despite all his protestations and the fact that he clearly loved it.

So, while I was absolutely involved in the story and I thought the writing was great, overall the romance didn’t work for me. I thought there was some great sexual chemistry, some interesting character development and some fascinating art but I wasn’t convinced the relationship was the “forever” kind. That being said, it’s still an entertaining story and definitely worth exploring – but I’d read some reviews to make sure you’re getting what you want for your money.

Audio

I thought Kirt Graves was a good choice of narrator for this. His voice quality and tone as well as the “acting” he does fit the mood of the story and the characters well. He definitely added to the overall experience.

I Enjoyed It!

The storyline between the two main characters, Poe and Jericho, was interesting. I liked seeing the growth of Poe from an aimless 23 year old to someone who wanted to change and be a better version of himself. Jericho was inspired by someone helping him when he was a young delinquent and in turn did the same for someone else. I liked the supporting characters in the book and hope they get their own story, including Blue.

The narrator brought depth to the characters that kept me intrigued and wanting to continue to listen. I look forward to listening to more books from Kirt.
