Publisher's summary

A magnificent new romance by New York Times best-selling author Emma Chase - available in audio first!

Dean Walker is all about keeping life simple. He’s effortlessly talented and intelligent - spending his summers playing drums in the local band and the rest of the year teaching high school in the same Jersey town where he grew up. He likes his love life simple too, enjoying the commitment-free hook-ups his good looks and sexy charm have always made oh so easy.

Then he meets Lainey Burrows. And his simple, easy life gets turned upside down.

One wild one-night stand was all it was ever supposed to be, so Lainey is shocked when she discovers that her sizzling summer fling is also her son’s new math teacher. But that’s nothing compared to the most unexpected twist of all - their hot hook-up left Lainey knocked up, and now they’re about to become parents. Together.

What ensues is an addictive, insatiable, sweet and tender romance that won’t be simple, but it will be more than worth the fight.

Featured Article: The Best Women Narrators to Listen to Right Now

One of the biggest questions listeners have when it comes to approaching a new audiobook is whether or not they'll enjoy the narration style. This is understandable, as audiobooks are at least a few hours long (with many clocking in at 20 hours long—or more!), and sticking with one person's voice for that time period can feel like a big commitment. We rounded up some of the best female narrators with a robust list of audiobooks under their belts.

Andi and Zachary are fantastic! Dean is everything

Getting Played is the second book in the Getting Some series by the fabulous and talented Emma Chase. It releases in audio first and I had to pleasure of listening to it before it releases! I absolutely loved Getting Schooled and I have been looking forward to Dean's story since I finished listening to Garrett's. Oh my, Dean. The sexy, drummer who sings in a band during the summer and the smart, sexy, nerdy, glasses wearing high school teacher and football coach for the rest of the year. My heart and body could barely take it! I loved being back in New Jersey with these characters who feel like long lost family. Dean meets a woman during one of his shows. She's gorgeous, sexy, and fun. They spend an amazing night together and then she's gone. Only to show up in his hometown as the mom of one of his new students. What are the odds. Dean is not a relationship guy. Not even close. Every woman, man and child in town knows his reputation and they don’t all have nice things to say about him. Lainey never thought she'd see Dean again and now he's her son's teacher. And he looks even better than he did last time she saw him. That night, Dean left her with a souvenir and she's been trying to find him. Now that she sees him again, she lets him know she's pregnant. She's had time to get used to the idea and she's so great about letting Dean have time. He has no idea what to do. He's not sure he'll be a good father. Never saw himself even having kids. And he's not the dating type. Then he realizes that he wants Lainey and their child in his life. He wants to try. He's never wanted to try before. He's never felt this way about a woman and now he has a baby on the way. And he already cares deeply for her son Jason. Can Dean prove to himself and the town that he's not the player they all think he is? Will Lainey trust in Dean and his feelings for her and her son? Oh man, do I love me some Dean! But I also love Lainey! She's independent, smart and isn't afraid to have another child even if it's by herself. She's done it before, she'll do it again. She's mature, level headed and talented. Together, Dean and Lainey have great chemistry! Their banter is sexy and fun. Overall, I loved every minute of it! I love listening to a book I haven't read yet. It keeps me on the edge of my seat and I get immersed in the narrators voices and emotions. Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did a fantastic job. Zachary's voice is so smooth and sexy and I love his voices for kids and women too. Andi was, as always, great. A few times, the cracking in her voice made me cry. She was Lainey. Zachary and Andi are two of my favorite narrators and if you love them you don’t want to miss Getting Played!

5 fantastic stars!

Getting Schooled was my #1 favourite read last year, and ever since I heard that Emma Chase was going to make it into a series, Getting Played was my most anticipated read of this year. I dropped everything the moment this audiobook dropped onto my phone, and it did not disappoint!

We are taken back to the town of Lakeside, this time for the story of Dean – best friend of Garrett from book #1. Dean is the math teacher and assistant football coach at the same high school that he and Garrett attended as kids. He spends his summers touring with his band and playing his beloved drums, and it’s while performing one night that he becomes smitten with a woman in the crowd.

Lainey is a single mother to a teenage son and runs a successful lifestyle blog. She’s celebrating a new career opportunity out at a bar when she meets Dean. After staring lustfully at each other through his whole set, they share a fun and easy night together which ends with multiple rounds of the best sex either of them have had. They both consider it a hook-up and say goodbyes in the morning, but neither of them are able to forget each other or the amazing time they had together.

Months later, and Lainey’s job has moved her to Lakeside, and she and Dean get the surprise of their lives when they run in to each other again. The surprises continue when they then discover that Dean is the teacher that Lainey’s son can’t stop gushing about, and not only that… but Lainey is pregnant from their night together.

Squeeeee! I love a surprise pregnancy storyline, and this one is just gorgeous!

Dean is a simple guy. He loves his job, his friends, and his music, and he’s happy with his commitment-free lifestyle and his frequent hook-ups with no desire for anything more. But then there is Lainey. Not only was he unable to forget about her, but she makes him feel things he hasn’t felt before. The idea of a relationship is completely new to him, but she’s a total gamechanger for him. And the fact that she’s having his baby changes brings them together in a way he never would have anticipated.

Lainey is a ‘take life as it comes’ kind of girl. She’s smart and sensible, and I love how no-nonsense she is. She’s a wonderful mother and she’s prepared to go it alone, but as Dean declares himself all in, she finds her whole world flipped upside down.

Everybody in town new that when Dean the player fell, he would fall hard, and we get to see that in glorious detail as Dean throws himself into life as an expectant father, and allows everything he is feeling for Lainey to shine. It’s absolutely effortless and so, so beautiful, and while it’s not exactly conventional, and they do have some drama to sort through, it’s angst free, super sexy and so freaking sweet. I absolutely love these two together, and their journey to their HEA is lots of fun.

Lovers of the first book will be thrilled that we get to spend time with Garret and Callie, and there’s some great story progression for them, and once again there’s a fantastic bunch of side characters that bring so much to the story. The teachers at work, Dean’s Grandmother, Lainey’s family, her son, and the rest of Dean’s students absolutely shine whenever they appear, and this book had me laughing out loud so many times at the fantastic dynamics and banter.

Emma Chase has delivered another fantastic rom-com with characters that you can’t help but love and a love story that will have you laughing, swooning, fanning yourself and grinning like a fool.

The audiobook is once again narrated by Andie Arndt and Zachary Webber, and they are perfection!

I loved everything about this one!

Welcome back to Lakeside

Getting Schooled was one of my favorite books from last year, and Getting Played Is one of the best of this year. Dean and Lainey are wonderful together. This book is funny, sweet, and heart warming. Emma Chase does a wonderful of bring the reader into this amazing town that anyone would be happy to call home. I love all of the new characters. Jason is a sweet kid and Lainey’s sisters are hysterical. It was wonderful to catch up with all of the old crew too. I really hope that there will be another book in this series.

The narration in this book is top notch. Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt are my dream team.
As for the one question you are all wondering. Is this book worth a credit? The answer is a big YES!!!

Not Much Pay Off, But A Good Performance

Performances were what kept me listening. the woman did a good job The man was a bit cocky with his inner monologue for me, but it didn't detract from the story.

The story itself was lacking. You know they're going to end up together. Dean is too "perfect" not to get his way: genius-level brilliant, talented, suave. Don't forget he's great with kids too! Yawn.

Lainey manufactures the only conflict. Doesn't even hear the excuse before agreeing the guy she's she's poured her heart into is trash.

I did like the argument that arose out of the perceived betrayal. That piece was well done but resolved without much effort.

All the feels!

In true Emma Chase fasion, after listening to this book I was left with a smile on my face and all the feels. As always, both Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber knocked it out of the park with there audible abilities. I got a feel for the characters on a deeper level that only amazing narration can do.

Dean Walker was a playboy that was getting sick of the game. Lainey Burrows was a single mom out celebrating with her sister. Their connection was instant and the chemistry absolutely combustible! I loved these two! They had fun, didn't play games and genuinely liked each other for more than a roll in the sheets.

I loved the near misses in finding her again. I caught myself shouting out when they were so close. Then finally, when they meet again after months apart that connection is still there, like they never were apart.

The only thing I hated about this book was that it ended. I fell in love with this town, these characters, and their friends. This is definitely going on my re-listen list.

Great Narration - Story just okay

Both narrators were great. The story however is extremely cliché and predictable. It is a "just okay" light story with a happy ending but overall nothing interesting or surprising happening.

Couldn’t put it down!

LOVE IT just as much if not more than the 1st book!!! This book grabbed my attention right from the start and left me not being able to remove my earbuds until it was done.
Love the characters and funny side characters.
I enjoy the teaching aspect and that we get to see Dean in this element dealing w/ the kids and other teachers. I enjoyed everything about this story and really hope there will be another.
Maybe for Garrets doctor brother???
Highly recommend this and the 1st one Getting Schooled!

I’ve Got It For The Teacher!

Why oh why did I think it was a wise decision to start this audio after midnight thinking I’ll just listen to a chapter or two before going to sleep. Big mistake! BIG! I fell in love with the characters straight away that I was saying to myself, one more chapter, just one more chapter.

I’m kicking myself that I haven’t read or listened to the previous book but I didn’t feel left out in the slightest. Dean Walker is not only intelligent and a gifted drummer but he is the hottie maths teacher working at a New Jersey high school. The last thing he was expecting was the new kid’s mother - expecting! One guess who the baby daddy is?!! Lainey Burrows was just what he needed in his life. She was vivacious and vibrant and zestful. I adored her. She was an amazing mum to a teen already but I was excited for her to have another little baby she will share with Dean.

If you have listened to the first book, you will love listening to this one two. The same narrators are back and they do an amazing job with these characters. If it’s your first time like me, take the chance, I recommend it highly.

Dare I Say Better than the First

I absolutely loved the first book. Everything about it was amazing. The story, and the narration worked so well together the first time around I am always skeptical that they can't match or exceed it. This did. I won't spoil anything but I loved how she didn't repeat the same story with the next set of characters. I also love the single mom story line. My only dislike is that there weren't more scenes with the old characters I got to really love (the Daniels brothers).

Personally, I really hope there are more books here and specifically ones with the Daniels brothers.
