Publisher's summary

Things in Whynot, NC have gone to the dogs, and that’s just the way the town’s only veterinarian, Laken Mancinkus, likes it. No matter if she’s up when the rooster crows or working until the cows come home, Laken never leaves an animal in need. So when a gorgeous Yankee comes begging for help herding some wily goats, Laken is up to the task.

Jake McDaniel is looking for a tax break, and what better way than to take up...farming? This ex-football player turned businessman turned unwitting goat farmer is up to his knees in goat drama. Runaway goats, dehydrated goats, and a baby goat that wants no one other than him, Jake needs more help than he cares to admit. Good thing the sexy veterinarian is right there to coach him on how to be a farmer. The only problem is, Laken’s not looking for anything more than a good time, while Jake is looking for his forever girl.

Will the baby goat, and Laken, be enough to get Jake to stay? Or will he take his tax break and hoof it back to Chicago?

One thing is for certain...what happens on the farm doesn’t always stay on the farm.

Friends with benefits to HEA

I enjoyed this book. The characters were, for the most part “real” and had structure. Jake was a little too good to be true, but that’s mostly due to the ending.
There is a small part from Laken’s dog’s perspective. It was unnecessary, but cute. I have to say, another reviewer said something about the dog wanting Laken in a sexual way & that says more about the reviewer than the actual story. They have a gross mind. The dog just acted like a dog. People are gross.

Simply the best !! Great narration for a wonderful story

Omg where do I start, I love the town of Whynot and its inhabitants and book 3 in the Sex and Sweet Tea series did not disappoint in fact I would go as far as for me it's the best book yet in this brilliant series.
The narration team of Stephen Dexter, Alexander Cendese, Noelle Bridges and Aiden Snow did a fantastic job being this book to life. They were spot on with the banter and they had me laughing out loud and falling Iove with this book all over again.
This is Laken Mancinkus's story who is the local vet in Whynot, she is never going to settle down, she has been burnt before and relationships are not on the cards for her, sharing her life with her large puppy
Herman is perfect or so she thought, then Jake arrived in town. Jake is a hot confident funny business man who seems to have it all, he purchases a farm that he plans on running as a tax loss but the problem is one of the resident goats gives birth and the mother wants nothing to do with the kid so Laken teaches him how to bottle feed, well that's when the fun and games really begin, a kid that thinks this hot man is her mother, she won't take a bottle from anyone else....
Two people from very different life's, will the pull of the city keep them apart or will Whynot cast a magical spell and make one of them change their lifestyle for the other. A loveable baby goat and a pup (who gets a few chapters in his POV) make this one of the most adorable reads of 2017. The characters as always are strong but it's the laugh out loud moments that really made this story for me. Looking forward to more from the inhabitants of Whynot

A cuddly, fluffy read

So even Herman the dog narrated his own POV, too???

I shouldn't complain because Stephen Dexter narrated it, but for the life of me, I do not know how it is relevant to the story. That's just my opinion, of course. Nonetheless, this was a cute read. Our MCs had a sort of rough start but we know how it progressed as we read along. Since this is my second book from the series, I can pretty much say that I am here for the family dynamic and small-town life. All in all, this makes a good, short read.

Different

This listen was good and had my attention until the Dog started his part. I was really confused, and at the end of his him talking, he said, "He was just a dog". It actually was creepy. The dog seemed as if he wanted to be "more" than a dog. Coming in the room while they are having sex, when they take showers he gets in with them.
These parts of the book borderlands on nasty.
Just wow.

Disappointed 😞

The story just before this one (stubborn as a mule) was so funny. So I was a little disappointed with this one. It kinda of just dropped the ball and lagged terribly.

Laken and the business man

Veterinarian Laken Mancinkus meets the new owner of a goat farm and sparks fly. Can the small town bet and the big city business man make love work? I must admit that this is my least fave in the series. Laken was a bit annoying; but overall a good story. Catching up with Pap and the rest of the Mancinkus crew is always fun.

Thought it was something that happened when I downloaded it So I fast forwarded it and still got the same scenes. I really liked her other books!!! But this one stink's!!!!

A Wonderful Small-town Series

My audio book review of the week s Barking up the Wrong Tree by Juliette Poe (Sawyer Bennett), narrated by Stephen Dexter, Alexander Cendese, Noelle Bridges, Aiden Snow. I am a major fan of this small town, family romance series created by Juliette Poe a.k.a. Sawyer Bennett. I love stories set in small towns my guess is because I come from a big city and the sometimes loving, sometimes nosey environment makes me feel good.

In Barking Up the Wrong Tree, the focus is Lakin Mancinkus one of the family twins. She is the local vet. Her love of animals drives her career, but her less than stellar business skills make the business side a challenge. Jake McDaniel purchases a farm in Whynot. This endeavor is going to be a challenge as he is an ex-football star turned business executive. He plans to run the farm remotely from Chicago. The story is told, primarily from Lakin and Jake’s point of view. Pap continues with a few chapters from his point of view and Herman, Lakin’s dog gives his POV occasionally. It is all perfect.

Like the other books in the series, it is a fun, feel-good story that touches my heart. Whynot what an excellent name for a small town. Who knew there is a Whynot in North Carolina! The female characters are a good dose of funny, sarcasm, sassy, and loveable. Lakin is successful and a member of the tight-knit Mancinkus family. I love how this family pulls together to support one another.

Jake is a strong, sexy, hero. His success has him searching for a tax write-off, and the farm fit his requirements. His fumbling with his animals sets up many opportunities for a good laugh. His relationship as the pseudo-mother goat for Miss Goatakins is perfect. Jake’s farming skills aside, he is the ideal hook-up for Lakin. She likes temporary, sexy nights and Jake’s home base is in Chicago.

Grandfather Mancinkus returns. He is the patriarch of the family who is always available to give a listening ear and advice to his grandchildren. I love the chapters from his point of view. He has the wisdom of a grandfather and dishes out his counsel as a grandfather and bartender. Other family members wander through the story as well as the couple who will be the focus in the next book.

The audiobook is narrated by Stephen Dexter, Alexander Cendese, Noelle Bridges, Aiden Snow who appear in previous books. I like the continuity it brings to the series. The narrators do a good job bringing the characters to life. I enjoy their interpretation of the characters and events. I love that Herman, the dog has a narrator as well as Pap. We learn a lot from their perspective. Also, there isn’t a lot of angst. I like that the characters act like adults and talk through most of their conflicts. I will purchase the next audio for this series. I recommend this book and the audio for anyone who needs a sweet escape. It is a deal with whispersync.
