Publisher's summary

I may be the villain of the story, but at least I get a leading role.

Evil is a term thrown around history and literature as if it's something so easily definable. A concept to fight against. Evil doesn't exist. Neither does "good".

Vampires do, though. I just happen to be one. I've cruised through the centuries managing to avoid all the wars, supernatural and human, but still going to all the best parties. I would say I avoided bloodshed, but it's kind of part of the whole "vampire" thing.

I've lived on the fringes of a society that considered cruelty and sadism favorable character traits for almost 500 years. Now, I'm in the middle of a war that might just put my non-beating heart in a lot of danger.

Battles, I can handle. The impossible attraction between the vampire slayer and I, not to mention the penetrating gaze of the king of our race, on the other hand? I might not get out undead.

Contains mature themes.

Overall Enticing, but wish there were some changes

I had no trouble finishing this book! the concept is really great and I love how sarcastic the female protagonist is. She was my favorite part of this book and she had some of the best lines. unfortunately I think the romance fell flat simply because it felt like it instantly went from they hate each other to they love each other which needed to be explored more. I absolutely love romance but I almost felt like this book would have been better without it or if she had gone after the king who I think has better chemistry. Just my personal thoughts!

Absolutely FANTASTIC !!!!!!

This is a great constant moving vampire PNR adventure series and is funny , interesting, and dark all into one. There are witches, wolves, and so much more. A vampire hierarchy fantasy series;)
The narrator did a great job as well.
I have already paid for book 2 in this series and its absolutely amazing!!!!

A new favorite!!!

Be aware: this review has minor spoikers that might give you an indication of the direction where the romance part of the story goes.

What was there to dislike about this book? Nothing! It had everything; romance, comedy, suspense, and more. The narration was some of the best I've heard. Virginia was spot on with every voice, doing a great job witj the make characters and an even better job with Ayla (is thst how it's spelled? That's the downside of listening to a book, I suppose). Her character was a breath of fresh air and the author was brilliant with her personality and personal growth. I loved her from the very beginning and all the way through. Thorne was amazing as well, showing new sides to himself and evoking as the story continued as well. The one things that jarred me was his split second change from pure hatred to deep love for Ayla; it felt like a switch flipped rather than a gradual build up only because in every interaction prior to the one where he finally expresses his feelings was filled with disgust and irritation. A little bit more affection before jumping into the deep end with her probably would have helped but it was sun no way a hindrance in my eyes, just a small thing that may have made it a tad more realistic in a novel packed to the brim with impossible things. At any rate, I would recommend this book ten times over but just know that the sexy scenes are few and far between although there's quite a bit of lusting up until then between Thorne and Everick. I really liked that I wasn't sure who she would end up with for a while, and I didn't even know who I wanted her to end up with for a while there too. The author did an excellent job of keeping us in suspense on that front and putting those two men in there as options without giving away who it would be immediately. It kept things interesting and was just one of many ways it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. This book was well worth the credit and I'm absolutely going to continue on with the series. Maybe Sophia will get a story as well? I haven't looked so maybe there already is one for her but she was interesting enough to deserve her own tale. In closing, I'll say that this book is plot-driven with romance added in as a cherry on top but I could have listened to Virginia as Ayla forever with or without the romance (which is rare since I pretty much only read dark romances that are heavy on the sex). I would like to see more of that intimacy between Ayla and her man as well as some of that dominant side we got a taste of! Well done, Anne Malcolm, you truly created a book to be proud of.

A cleverly written action packed romantic comedy. I have to admit I lost sleep enjoying this treat late into the nights. Thanks for the ride!
