Summary
All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumours of his cowardice are true - he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.
Spensa is sure there's more to the story. And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars - and it was terrifying. What she learned turned her world upside down. Everything Spensa's been taught is a lie.
But Spensa also learned a few things about herself - and she'll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to.

I didn't mean to buy a kids book!
.... but I really liked it anyway. Great story, and really good narration. I've already read the Stormlight series and Brandon's style still works in this young adult book.

A fitting sequel
A great follow up to the previous book. Sanderson builds on the series' lore tremendously and further solidified my endearment for Spensa

finished two books in a week so really catched my interest. definitely worth a read just shame the 4th book not released till November or would done all 4 this month 😀

Another amazing book from Brandon!
I've been looking forward to this book for months! just as good as the first. Action packed throughout and hard not to listen too! So sad that I'm already finished!

Themes and characters
Good exploration of themes through developed characters. It's easy to write a book extolling the virtues of accepting all the various species in a science fiction universe when their differences have no consequence. This book contains species who have eugenics baked into their reproduction for our instictively xenophobic human protagonist to come to terms and learn to coexist with. And that's one example of many!
As others have pointed out the storyline is easier to anticipate than some other sanderson novels, but it doesn't get in the way of enjoying the excellent character development, world building, and action sequences.

Fabulous! He's done it again
Another great heroine, another cliff hanger and twists and turns to keep you guessing all the way through. OK, some of the plot was predictable but it just added to the enjoyment of the story. Looking forward to the next installment!

Loved it
No matter what other people say….I loved it! Performance AND story was nice. Maybe the ending wasn’t WOOOOWWW, but still good. Like someone else said…it is safe. But I like how it was written.
