Publisher's summary

If you love urban fantasy, coming of age stories, and sarcastic narrators that don't know when to shut their mouth, you'll love Soul Fraud.

A demon stole Matthew Carver's soul. They're not supposed to do that.

Matt has a terrible life. Seriously—it's awful. It is so bad that Dan the Demon is shocked when Matt turns down his infernal offer: 10 years of a blissful life in exchange for his soul.

But Dan is a salesman behind on his quota and his demonic managers are running out of patience. He forges Matt's signature on the dotted line, stealing his soul and thrusting him into a supernatural world he never knew existed. Matt must learn to navigate the hidden society of demons, faeries, demigods, and worse.

Matt has to get his soul back and stop a supernatural war before it is too late....

"I'm proud of you." (Andrew's mom)

"I didn't even know you could read." (Andrew's grandfather)

"Neat." (Some girl at a party)

Great Story

I listened to this with my 10 yr old son and we loved it. Unique story line and well written. Dramatic but also humorous. Can't wait for more of this story!

Fresh take on urban fantasy, great performance

I will say straight up, this book left me wanting more. Right now. So I was disappointed to see the second installment didn't already exist. It's hard to do unique things with urban fantasy, and many of the well known types for this genre are in place. What made this interesting was the introduction of some characters that I didn't see coming and truly don't get enough exposure elsewhere. I'm being intentionally vague here as they are minor spoilers. But I'm talking specifically about the guy with the sword. Very pleasantly unexpected. This book does progress rather slowly, and it becomes evident that the main plot is intended to extend well beyond just this first installment in the series.

The narration was great, but I was -almost- turned away by the voice used for Dan the demon in audiobook sample. I found it annoying initially. After listening to the book, I find that that's exactly what the character was supposed to be, as well as pitiable to boot and fortunately, they don't turn up too much. However, the narrator displayed a wide range of voices, each character being unique and identifiable and I left being quite impressed with this low key display of talent and I look forward to hearing more of them.

Full of snark

The story is unique but there is way too much snark and internal dialogue for my taste. I listened at 1.5 times speed or higher to get through the story or I wouldn’t have made it.

Definitely entertaining!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. First and foremost the narrator did a great job. Listening to this was like watching a movie in my mind! This book keeps you going. It paints really vivid scenes and characters. Im a 47 year old, flight attendant and mom who enjoys reading just about every genre....except romance. I have a special place in my heart for horror and fantasy. This book is something I really enjoyed while flying and while doing house cleaning, there wasn't a moment of boredom or dragging. I love it that I can share it with my teenage boys and not worry about whether they'll relate or understand. My 17 year old was very curious from the snippets he got to hear. If you're looking for a fun read this is it.

Action & humor

This is a great audio book. A lot of humor......a perfect amount. Good action scenes. Imaginitive. The narrator did a great job with the different charators. I am sticking with this series.

Not the supernatural thriller I was expecting

I had to return this one. I finished it and just wasn't a fan. It sounded great and I took a chance on a newer book that my library didn't have.
I finished the book and while there was some great potential, it just felt like it went nowhere. I thought it was going to be a self contained novel like The Midnight Library or The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. Nope, all a big setup for a sequel and some weird supernatural world I have no doubt the author will end up needing to explain constantly and won't really make sense. It was a great concept for a nice, chonky, standalone novel with a solid story, but alas... it was not.

Nice world building, unique perspective.

Protagonist a bit whiny, but you probably would be too. Kid has some grit and rises to the occasion. Also, has decent guy-code where it comes to his best friend’s girlfriend.

Good explanation of why the Fae love mortal music and art.

Thanks!
