Publisher's summary

An all-new, sizzling stand-alone romance from New York Times best-selling Author Kendall Ryan....

Holt

Six years ago, Eden barged into my life and turned everything upside down.

We spent one scorching-hot night together, and then she disappeared into the sunset with the golden jock everyone adored. Which makes sense, right? A girl as beautiful and brilliant as Eden Wynn doesn’t end up with a rebel like me.

I expected them to live happily ever after, but that's not what happened. She's back in my life - and tempting me like no one else has. And while I'm certain I'll only tarnish her shine, I want her.

I'd heard the old notion that one night held the power to change everything. I just never believed it.

Until now.

Eden

I’m public enemy number one.

Turns out, the East Coast is protective of their hockey team and very vocal about not wanting a young female owner. Well, too bad, because this team is all Grandpa Wynn left me, and I have no intention of walking away.

Enter my new head of security, Holt Rossi. My history with him is...complicated. Chemistry reignites between us while the world waits for me to stumble.

He’s supposed to protect me - but who will protect my heart from him?

Warning: This romance contains one growly, broken hero; a bunch of rowdy hockey players; and a smart, hardworking heroine whose life hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows. This is a no-cheating, scorching-hot love story with a guaranteed HEA.

.... IT WAS OKAY

This was a low-angst, easy-going romance where Fate and Destiny gives Eden a second-chance to choose right.. and, when she and Holt are finally brought together again, it’s a sweet and sentimental climb.

At 21, Eden had a crush on the College Hockey star Alex, but the bad-boy never noticed her amongst the sea of women throwing themselves at him. However, there was one man who couldn’t take his eyes off her - Holt.. and, when rejection hits Eden one emotional party night, it’s Holt’s arms and Holt’s bed that Eden will fall into for an ‘almost’ one-night sexy hookup. Fast-forward six years and during that time Eden had won and lost the love of bad-boy Alex, she’d moved on from their romance and she’d been left the Boston Titans Hockey Team (who Alex now plays for). She’d also been appointed a new Security Firm in the wake of bad press and threats.. and surprise surprise it’s the very memorable Holt who owns it. A wealthy heiress following her Grandfather’s footsteps but struggling to make a name for herself and a man who feels he’s not worthy of her.

Worth a credit? It’s a 50/50 depends what you’re looking for.. for me, this book was an easy-going, low-impact, layer-free ‘meh’ listen that was enjoyable but it never really hooked me in and I think it’ll be easily forgotten. I’d preordered this and I was really looking forward to it.. but sorry, this time I just didn’t love the storyline, I didn’t much like the heroine or some of her actions and I didn’t think the story had much depth. However, on the plus side, I loved the kind, thoughtful, swoon-worthy loyal, loveable hero AND of course the excellent dual POV narration by the talented Vanessa Edwin and Jason Clarke who did an excellent job bringing the hero, the heroine, the heat and the heart to life.

Could not finish...

This book became so boring. It was great at putting me right to sleep. I kept re-listening to the chapters to see if I missed something good because my mind kept wandering. Sorry I used one credit on this

Eden and Holy

Eden is the new own of a NHL hockey team Holt is the head of the security firm hired to keep the team safe. They met back in college and had one night of amazing sparks of passion but didn’t let it get to far out of hand. She left with the Hockey star he went on to open the security firm. But even after all these years their attraction and chemistry is still there. The what if it rather for her the what if because she is the one who walked away . He knew she was special and knew there was something but also knew that because of his past they really shouldn’t be together . But now there was something different. This is a great second chance at love. The passion and feeling these two have is great. I love that they try to have respect that Holt tries to help Eden anyway he can. But I also love that there isn’t a lot of drama between the two . This is an adult relationship they talk they do have a few issues but work them out. I can’t wait for the next books
I read this book but I also listen to it on Audible if you like audibles I would suggest that as well Jason Clark is amazing as well as Vanessa Eden.

Too much back and forth for me

This had potential. Just way too much back and forth I want him I want her. I don't deserve her because of my past blah blah blah I can't have him because of my job status blah blah blah. Oh geesh just get over yourselves be adults and work it out! It's a no for me. Narrator's were ok

Great start to a new series!

The Rebel was a fantastic start to Kendall Ryan's Looking to Score Series. I loved everything about this hockey, lady boss, bodyguard romance. Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin narrate this audio book.

This second chance romance is full of steam and passion. I love how Kendall Ryan creates characters with ambition, but also lets us see their insecurities and doubts. With plot has a slight role reversal, with the lady boss, rich heroine and the under paid bodyguard. Kendall smashes these stereotypes, and proves no matter how much money you make, or your family history, that sometimes given a second chance, love conquerors all.

Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin portrayed Holt and Eden perfectly. Vanessa Edwin has such a decadent voice that instantly makes you fall in love with Eden, but feel her uncertainties at the same time. Jason Clarke's performance of Holt is pure alpha male hotness. Jason's signature growly voice makes you feel protected with Holt, the bodyguard.

Overall I really enjoyed The Rebel. I am looking forward to The Rival, and getting Alex's story. Kendall Ryan does an amazing job getting us ready for the next book in the series.

I may have a new author to binge!!!

Eden and Hold are so much 🔥🔥🔥. Like I was constantly squirming in my seat! This was a great bodyguard, second chance, sports romance! I loved the back and forth with the characters. I loved that Eden's internal conflict was not at all the same as Holt's internal conflict! I love that she never saw him as beneath her, but more like someone who she could be herself with. And I love that Holt got over his stuff enough to give her a real chance to make up for her freak out episodes! Definitely a book I would tell others to read or listen to... and I am very seriously considering getting the next book in the series.... I kinda NEED to know what happens with Alex! And can the author redeem him in my eyes, because I am not seeing him in the greatest light these days.

Great narrating

I thought the story could have been more interesting, but otherwise, the book was good.

Just not for me

I ended up skipping several chapters and just didn’t ever get into the story. The characters acted a lot younger than they were supposed to be and I really didn’t enjoy some of the juvenile discussions between both main characters and their friends. At times it felt like high school or even middle school kids talking about the opposite sex and crushing. The premise was good, but the execution not so much. 3.5 because the narration was good. No desire to continue the series.

Very Conflicted!

luckily for this book it has 2 of my favorite narrators or I would have quit listening long before the book ended. Though it ended with HEA, this whole book was essentially based on a relationship that existed because of one person's continued effort.
