Publisher's summary

Holiday for the Hostile, second book in the Hostile series, is probably even stranger than the first. Serena, plus her unusual friend and partner in crime, Tile X, reluctantly find themselves suffering a family holiday at her eccentric grandfather's hovel in Ireland. Who will escape intact from their dramatic holiday from Hell? A gripping paranormal thriller with a splash of horror.

A book with its own identity crisis.

What did you like best about Holiday for the Hostile? What did you like least?

It is creative but it is in its own book universe........ it moves from one genre to another I am not sure what category it is.The Author needs to know before the reader has any chance of understanding the true intent of the story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Joy Mutter? Why or why not?

Yes because I believe he has talent but needs to be more focused on the genre of the book he is writing.

What does Alexander Doddy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brings depth to the characters and makes the story more entertaining.

Could you see Holiday for the Hostile being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

The work needs more focus before it can go into production.

Best of the Three

Any additional comments?

"Holiday for the Hostile" was my favorite of this three part series. This story dealt not only in the paranormal with Tile X (as in the first book) but also dabbled in the horrors committed by man. More of a cross between a paranormal horror and a murder mystery, this tale was enjoyable on multiple levels. The narration was leaps and bounds better than the first story in the series, but like the first story, this one sort of just drops off at the end. When I read a book, I appreciate the courtesy of an actual ending! I wouldn't recommend reading this book unless you've already read book one and intend on reading book three!

An interesting, genre-splitting story

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was happy to find that the first portion of the book catches you up on what you missed if you didn't read/listen to book one. I think I might have been annoyed, though, if I HAD, as it spent a good amount of time on this. As I said, for me, this was a positive. The story is definitely not one that lands in a single genre. It is part horror, part thriller, part paranormal... Also, I really like authors that are snarky and aren't afraid to have fun with their worlds. The tongue-in-cheek style was enjoyable for me. I enjoyed this book quite a lot and will look for more in the future because I found myself bummed it was over.

Second book gets even better

This story is really great. Already started book 3. This seems at first like it could be a young adult book but it definitely is not. I feel like this story could have been started on a dare. Like I bet you can’t write a story about a killer bathroom tile…. Joy Mutter says yeah? Watch me and it will be damn good too! And it is!
Serena is definitely a person you do not want to cross. I love how she can have a heart and also be heartless at the same time. Her innocence is going fast. She gets involved with a serial killer. Becomes more of a killer herself and gets the attention of some who should run. Her mother is now suspicious of her as well. Her dead dad and moms ex boyfriend are always watching and trying to keep the family and world safe. Being dead and floating around as ghosts hasn’t stopped their efforts. Tile-X is a burden and a helper at the same time. He can see the ghosts…. And I am sure he enjoyed toying with them.

VERY THRILLING!

This was a very thrilling book! There is plenty of drama and suspense. The narration was great and kept me entertained. The author did a great job with the character builds and plot. This is the second book in this series and although you don't need to read the first book, I would definitely recommend it! I look forward to reading the next book in this series! Holiday for the Hostile

I see that there is a 3rd book.I can't wait to read it!These books are so weird, but good if you have an imagination.Having talked to bathroom tiles as a kid, ours reminded me of elephants,I get it.I never expected tham to be murderers! This one tile has been killing for this girl for a few years now. Will it end?I hope not. Alexander Doddy was a good narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.

Not a bad book

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher and I applaud their efforts and generosity. How ever, while Alexander Doddy did an excellent job with his narration I just could not suspend my disbelief in this story. It is very well written and for me, would have been very entertaining if not for that willing suspension of disbelief thing. Joy Mutter is a good writer (IMHO) but this story was not for me. Maybe, I will try another of her efforts. So in a nutshell, not bad, just not for me.

Dark twist and turns

I apparently missed this book in the series now book 3 makes sense with Serena and Tile X so I assume you need to listen in order. It is different series with dark twist and turn as in this book Serena and her family vacation in Ireland and more enjoyable than the 1st with her grandpa’s secrets as well as her own. It has ghosts, murder and mayhem. Recommend if you enjoy a different supernatural/paranormal thriller. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you
