Publisher's summary

One of Silicon Valley's most successful angel investors shares his rules for investing in start-ups.

There are two ways to make money in start-ups: create something valuable - or invest in the people that are creating valuable things.

Over the past 25 years, Jason Calacanis has made a fortune investing in creators, spotting and helping build and fund a number of successful technology start-ups - investments that have earned him tens of millions of dollars. Now, in this enlightening guide that is sure to become the bible for 21st century investors, Calacanis takes potential angels step by step through his proven method of creating massive wealth: start-ups.

As Calacanis makes clear, you can get rich - even if you came from humble beginnings (his dad was a bartender, his mom a nurse), didn't go to the right schools, and weren't a top student. The trick is learning how angel investors think. Calacanis takes you inside the minds of these successful moneymen, helping you understand how they prioritize and make the decisions that have resulted in phenomenal profits. He guides you step by step through the process, revealing how leading investors evaluate new ventures, calculating the risks and rewards, and explains how the best start-ups leverage relationships with angel investors for the best results.

Whether you're an aspiring investor or a budding entrepreneur, Angel will inspire and educate you on all the ins of outs. Buckle up for a wild ride into the world of angel investing!

This audiobook edition of Angel includes exclusive bonus one-on-one interviews with Jason Calacanis and professional angel investors. Featured are Founders Fund partner Cyan Banister, multiple start-up investor Gil Penchina, founding partner at XG Ventures Andrea Zurek, and serial entrepreneur and start-up mentor Ed Roman.

This is a great read for start-up Founders too.

This informative book is like a great travel guide for innovators and entrepreneurs, who are about to start raising capital. While it is written for future angel investors it also serves the entrepreneur with the language and strategy of investing in start-ups

Straight Forward

Would you consider the audio edition of Angel to be better than the print version?

Haven't bought the print version yet, but I do intend on buying the kindle version in the near future.

What other book might you compare Angel to and why?

I haven't read any other books on Angel investing before because it's more in the realm of speculation. For someone who is planning on being a more conservative investor I suggest The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham.

What about Jason Calacanis’s performance did you like?

How in depth he goes with each deal he is looking at. How he pays attention to so many little details that he increases his odds of getting a big win!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he brought up the book Just Listen by Mark Goulston. That book has tons of information on how to actually listen to people, to hear them out, and to calm yourself when things go wrong. I highly recommend that book.

Any additional comments?

Since I am young and the world is continually changing I will surely be looking into Angel Investing someday!

Must Listen For Startup Founders

As a startup founder looking for information on Angel finance, there aren't many options out there. So when I came across this title, I decided to download right away. Right from the start it struck me as so honestly told and insightful that I almost listened to the whole book in one sitting.

I feel like I was a fly on the wall at an important Angel Investment strategy meeting. Having experienced Jason's story, it has completely guided my playbook on attracting finance for our startup.

辛苦了!

Inspiration to take action and invest your 1st US$

What did you love best about Angel?

It took away the fear of losing all my money because he shows a step-by-step strategy to plan my investments and minimize my risk. This strategy has not only been successful for him but many other angel investors. "Follow the well-trodden path of successful angel investors."

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jason himself who has a big heart to help people help themselves and the world.

What does Jason Calacanis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His passion and pain as he told the stories of his losses and dealings with 'difficult' founders.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment when I realized what my next action step was to making my first angel investment. It was exciting, and yet comfortable.

Any additional comments?

Even if you think now is not yet the time to invest as an angel, just begin to learn about it and you might be surprised. When you realize you can already make that first investment, no matter how small, more doors will open for you.
