Publisher's summary

Music is drummer Tim Chalmers's great escape and the one thing that's never let him down. But his band Spiral's meteoric rise to fame has made it difficult for him to maintain a low profile. Unwanted press pesters him after a public breakup with a volatile ex-girlfriend who loves the limelight as much as he loathes it. Tim's main goal is to avoid confrontation. However, when a handsome stranger in a dive bar turns out to be someone he might know, everything changes.

Carter Hamilton-Temple might be a successful financial consultant with more brains, sophistication, and charm than most, but he always falls for the wrong guys: closet cases or men with issues. He can't fight his attraction to tattooed rock star Tim, but can he trust his own judgment? When the thrill of danger combined with a fierce physical connection proves too strong for either man to resist, a quiet liaison away from the public eye and curious friends seems like a safe bet. But some secrets are hard to keep. When rumors threaten to rock his world, Tim realizes it's time to confront his fear with his own kind of honesty.

A- rating...

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.25
Story: 4.00

I have really enjoyed this entire series and this book was no exception. Carter and Tim met one night in a bar and have a one-night stand. It's a little sleazy, a little shady, but it's all hot, hot sex. It was a nice escape for both of them. What they didn't realize at the time was that they have very close mutual friends.

So, when they see one another again a few weeks later at a friend's party, they are both shocked...both by their connections and who exactly they each are...they'd lied about their identities. From their a friends with benefits arrangement develops that slowly morphs into more.

Like I said, this was totally enjoyable. It's not a new storyline...Tim is out, but it's only on paper. He's never been photographed with a male lover by the press, so his mom just wrote their saying that he's bi as sensational reporting. And that's not something that Tim really wants to change.

Carter is out, but he's a very high-profile businessman so he likes to remain discreet...so the arrangement works for him...until the made up stories by the paparazzi about Tim get to be too much.

Nothing earth-shatteringly creative, but a highly recommended read/listen. I need to check and see if book #4 is available on audio yet.

4.5 stars- Consider me hooked

A Kind of Honesty is the third book in the A Kind of Stories series that follows the rock band Spiral’s band members and crew as they find their special someone. I hadn’t read the previous books when I began this audiobook and I had no trouble following along. After finishing this title, I can say with surety that I plan to go back and read the previous two books. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, plot, and writing, and look forward to continuing this series.

From the outset I liked both Tim and Carter. They had their flaws but were good men who were relatable in different ways. I thought the initial meeting was great, and as I’ve had some dicey motel rooms in the past, I laughed a lot at the descriptions and commentary- particularly Carter’s disgust. This seamless weaving of humor into the dialogue and scenarios continued throughout the book, and I found myself chuckling and smiling often as I listened. I’m always a fan of opposites attracting, so I appreciated how the men contrasted with one another. Sometimes these differences added a good dose of humor and other times it led to personal growth, giving a nice balance to the romance.

Tim’s and Carter’s struggles and conflicting emotions regarding pursuing a relationship were believable, if a little drawn out. However, I liked the two men together and the resolution of the main conflict was satisfying. I really liked seeing Tim grow throughout the book. The story is told entirely from his perspective, and that worked well to keep some of the mystery regarding Carter’s feelings a bit secretive. The chemistry between the couple was undeniable, both in and out of the bedroom. I appreciated how strong it was from the start but that the author managed to build it throughout the book. Their relationship felt like a natural progression from a casual fling to more.

All in all, this was a great story with good characters, dialogue, humor, and heat. Narrator Seth Clayton delivered a great performance; so much so that I may listen to the first two books rather than read them. His pacing, intonation, and even addition of appropriate emotion into the scenes made the characters and story stand out. I’d definitely recommend the audiobook version.

Gotta love rock star romances!

This is a story of being in the right place at the right time. These two, seemingly incompatible guys manage to find each other in just the right moment. Tim is ready to explore his “gay” side after having been in a bad relationship with a woman for the last two years. Serendipity throws him in the path of Carter who is actually a friend of a friend of a friend.

When they reconnect they are brutally honest with each other and that starts them on the right path. Sex only. No strings. No drama. When things get messy is when they begin to “feel” things for the other.

In typical Lane Hayes style the hot times are well thought out, hot and not so overwhelming as to detract from the main story. The characters are rich and multi-faceted. Neither is perfect and there are lots of opportunities for them to hurt the other.

If you’re a fan of the author, rock star romances, opposites attract stories – this is for you!

Audio

Seth Clayton has a very sexy voice and is very easy to listen to. He sometimes pauses or drags out sentences in ways that sort of slow down the story more than it should, but that’s pretty minor.

He’s a great singer! So that was a lovely plus ☺

He didn’t do a lot as far as unique accents but he’s good with handling emotions and keeping the characters separate.

This wasn’t my favorite narration by this narrator (I love his JCP Mnevermind the best!) But it's still excellent!

A Kind Of Honesty - loved

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really enjoy this narrator's style, he has this ability to carry a smile in his voice and it's such a wonderful thing to listen to. Seth really brought the drama forward and made this a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Adds so much to what was already a great story from Lane Hayes

Laughs with Depth and Heat

I loved the banter between the MC and while I laughed a lot, a few tears were shed. As usual, Lane Hayes tackles some heavy topics with brutal honesty with characters that experience personal growth over time. The steam factor, as in HOT, is the cherry on top!

Love with a beat of it’s own

This series is consistent in it’s writing throughout each story. I loved Tim and Carter’s journey to love. Sometimes we think we have it figured out, but life proves we don’t. It’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey.....and who you bring with you.

Very dissapointed

Ugh, I really disliked this one. I just couldn’t connect with the MC’s and I really really disliked Tim. He is such an ahole the whole time then towards the end he wants to have his way and all is forgiven, ugh that just bugged me. I will repeat again; it I hate Tim!. Seth Clayton did a great job with the narration which is why I even gave this book 2 stars. I’m really sad I hated this story since Lane Hayes is one of my favorite authors I own all of her books and this one is the only one I hated. 😕

Good story!

I loved Carter and liked Tim. Tim irritated me for a bit during the story while he waffled over what to do. I think my problem with his behavior was how LONG he drugged his situations out in comparison to how long it took him to resolve them. IMHO, the resolution was too abrupt and did not adequately address all the issues. I enjoyed the story but wished there was more balance between the conflict and resolution.
