Publisher's summary

It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm (ECS) has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.

And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.

Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can't do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.

Em needs help but doesn't know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen's personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?

No matter what she chooses she will probably lose - her life or everything and everyone she loves.

Even Better than Book 1!!!

I enjoyed book one but book 2 blew it out of the park! These characters have so many layers. I just love it! The twists and character development had me enthralled from the beginning. Ember is a seriously awesome character, she is one tough girl and is everything in her life is changing and she doesn't really know who she is anymore she grabs live by the horns! Such great female character with a lot of strength! Eli....oh my... Eli, he is such a bad boy with a bad boy ego but man I love him! The plot is filled with twists and turns and I all the new characters make this book even better!

The narration was perfect!

just flows so effortlessly

Fire in The Darkness, the second book in the paranormal romance series by Stacey Marie Brown, picks up four weeks after Ember Brycin’s newly discovered powers have turned Seattle into a disaster area. This could work as a stand alone, but for greater enjoyment and better understanding of the characters, I would suggest listening to Darkness of Light first.

In this second installment, Ember continues on her path of self-discovery, learns more about the Otherworld and its history, and develops her skills and powers. Ember is pretty much on her own and doesn’t know whom she can trust: Eli and the Dark Dwellers or Torin, the personal knight to the Seelie Queen? And who exactly is Lars? As she is pursued by Light and Dark, new characters are introduced, secrets are revealed and relationships are tested. We get to know Ember’s friends better who were introduced in book 1.

The undeniable chemistry and intense connection between Ember and Eli carries on. And Torin is not giving up either. It’s no longer Young Adult territory as in book 1, this is definitely more appropriate for New Adult listeners now, although there is nothing terribly explicit.

I found the emphasis wasn’t so much on the romance side of the story as it was in book 1. Fire in the Darkness highlights more an understanding of the Otherworld and its inhabitants as well as Ember’s development into a stronger person. She is becoming a more well rounded, interesting character. I really enjoyed her training and stay with the Dark Dwellers. I loved their group dynamics.

I am a fan of Stacey Marie Brown’s style of writing, which just flows so effortlessly. There’s lots of action and so many twists and turns that there wasn’t one dull moment. I again appreciated the humor and witty monologue and dialogue she created, “You do not mess with a man’s peanut butter!”.

The story is once again narrated by Michelle Sparks and she continues in the same fantastic way in which she performed book 1. She really makes Ember come to life, but also has enough variety in her voice for all the other characters. She is very good at expressing the relevant emotions, and her pacing is great. There were no issues with the quality of the production.

I guess as Fire in the Darkness has only just been released on audio, it will be a little while before book 3 will be available, but it’s definitely worth the wait. There is still plenty for Ember to do and I am looking forward to listening to her further adventures.

Great story!

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the first book but the second book was even better. Engaging story line and many twists. I hope audible doesn't keep us waiting for the remaining books in the series for too long.

Struggled with this book.

As I've mentioned in other books I detest story lines that have to insert love triangles or some other hot guy she makes out with. It just hurts. She finally has sex with Eli but its short lived with his evil brother interrupting them and adding more lies which creates her to assume they're true thus leaving Eli angry and she uses her powers to hurt him. Ugh. I just wanted to throw my phone down. To be honest, I skipped portions of her dream scapes with "whats his face" and make out session with that spanish guy when she's training at the dark under Lord's (demon) house. Again.....makes me sick to my stomach so I cheat and skip. Also, I wish they hired a narrator that could do men's voices somewhat but this narrator uses her same voice for almost everyone! Now, I will give her a great thumbs up for the way she expresses her emotions! Awesome job on that but just no voice variations on the characters. You have to really pay attention.

PERFECTION IN the PARANORMAL

This is the second installment of the Darkness Series, and is one of the BEST paranormal /fantasy romance reads I've came across in a long time, actually it's now one of my favorite series! The plot thickens and twists with angst, love, deaths and mind boggling moments that has me wanting more, more more!!!! I can't wait for the next book, Ms. Marie has me hooked on her amazing, fascinating, Fay, Darkling, forest creators and many more in her interesting world she's created in her Darkness Series.

“A prophecy? Of course there has to be a prophecy”

This world continues to expand, and we get our first visit to the otherworld.

Ember continues to come into her own as she learns how to better use her powers. (Cue training montage.)

“I will follow you anywhere in the world if you ask me.”

The relationship between Ember and Eli also continues to develop, and 🌶 has entered the building.

This installment again ends in a cliffhanger, and I have no idea where this story is going. This book alone had a few, “wha…?” scenes, which definitely keeps it interesting.

screaming

The narrator doesn't actually have to scream at 10dB for us to know she is upset or screaming. Had to throw my pods out of my ears several times to protect my hearing. Her behavior is often spoiled and brat-like with no care for others demonstrating immature, stunted development. Enjoyed the storyline but this one was hard not to rush through.

Better

Storyline is a bit better, Ember still acts like a teenager, acts before she thinks. Little more dramatic flair, always thinking how all pertains to her and what she must do.
