Publisher's summary

They were coming for her.

The only problem was, Collett couldn't recall who or why. For the last two years, the only thing she knew was the key to her survival remained hinged on staying one step ahead of the Darkness that wanted her dead. Or so she thought.

Everything changes when Cade tries to help her. Born a werewolf nearly 300 years earlier, he is no stranger to the unpredictability that accompanies the secret world of the supernatural. Committing himself to helping the alluring Collett, Cade quickly learns that the ultimate cost for helping may be his own heart.

They soon discover that Collett is far more than she appears. As otherworldly abilities awaken within her, everyone, including herself, becomes hungry to know who she really is and what, exactly, she is capable of.

However, Collett is not the only one to harbor dark secrets.

Their enemies are stacking up, and the odds are against them. Can they discover the truth in time, or will the past destroy them all?

The romance grew organically and I really liked it

Forgotten Enemy by C.B. Haight is the first book in a series called The Powers of Influence. Cade is a werewolf and part of an organization entirely focused on protecting people from paranormal threats. When Roderick, one of his close friends and ally, asks that Cade look into one of Roderick’s employees, Cade is enthralled by his charge for protection. Collett is a seemingly skittish woman who doesn’t remember any of her past and is on the run for her life.  Creatures of evil regularly track her down and attempt to kill her and Collett doesn’t even know why. Cade, Roderick and his family work together to both keep Collett safe, but also figure out who she is. Collett is also slowly discovering powers that have been lying hidden and, on top of everything else, she must figure out how to manage these powers and determine what they might mean.  Together, they all must figure out who is hunting Collett and why. As the clues begin to fall into place, Cade and Collett also work to cope with their quickly changing relationship.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a little slow in terms of the action, but this allows the reader to savor the characters and the growing relationships. The romance grew organically and I really liked that. There were a lot of characters, but they all added something to the story in terms of actions or just information about the relationship between all the characters. I also liked that in addition to Cade and Collett’s point of views, the reader gets the point of view of the predator. It helps build up to the revelation near the end of the story, which I really liked. However, I really disliked how the story ends. Because the plot moves a little slowly and there are going to be more books in the series, the main mystery of the story was never resolved. Some information was revealed to at least keep the story going, but I really wish there was more. It almost felt as if the characters were really in the same place that they were at the beginning of the story.  This is frustrating because the slow pace and development of relationships can really cause the reader to become attached to the characters and how their lives progress.

The narration by Mikeal Narramore was pretty good. I did sometimes have a difficult time keeping track of who was speaking because some of the characters sounded similar, but over all he did a good job. The production quality was good as well. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes a good long lasting mystery and paranormal romances.

A great start!,

What made the experience of listening to Forgotten Enemy the most enjoyable?

*audio review copy provided by author*

This is my first book by CB Haight, and it was a good one.

I really enjoyed the book, and would totally recommend it to anyone who likes a unique shifter experience. I know I for one, love shifters, always have as they hold a special place for me, and this one has one heck of a alpha wolf in it. I will say though that the POVs switch often and a few times I got confused as to who was talking, and a few times the story seemed to drag, like it was stuck then it would pick up speed again, which happens sometimes.

Cade, is one very old, badarsed mamajama with a true heart of gold. Year after year he grows with a family, a family that's been behind him for decades, centuries even, and he becomes even more special to them all but he's missing something from his very long life. He's lonely, and that's not something just anyone can dice. It's going to take a special person.

Collette is a woman hiding in plain sight. She has no memories of the past, but she knows she needs to run. She can feel when bad things are about to happen to her, so she runs.

What neither of them suspects is that when she runs, axe will follow. One night will change their destinies and the course they're meant to take in life forever. Cade's instincts to protect Collette and Collette's need to keep everyone else from being hurt by her demons sets them both in a fiery path they could only have one outcome.

Come hell or high water, they're going to meet on common ground and stand tall. Thing is, are they strong enough to stand alone, or will they stand together....

Excellent Read!

What made the experience of listening to Forgotten Enemy the most enjoyable?

I liked the story line and it pulled me in wanting to know what happened to the sons and trying to understand the characters. I never really knew what was going to happen and it made it that much more interesting to read.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I got emotionally attached to Collett and Kade and just wanted to see more of their story. I wanted to know why Collett felt Jaret when she hadn't felt Kade at all.

Any additional comments?

At some points it seemed a little slow as it introduced the characters but as the book went on it speed up and it was well worth it!

I loved listening to this book

I love the writing and the description in this book. I think that the writer did an amazing job and I'm really hoping that she does the rest of her books on audible . I don't have time to do a lot of reading and I love to listen to them as I am out and about.

Great! but overall...

As a fantasy, great! As a romance, great! But when combine...good. Every time it focused on the romance I enjoyed what each character was going through and hearing the others thoughts. When the book focused on the fantasy I was interested and wanted to know more about this secret world (that sounded more believable because it seems smaller than others). But when combine, I found myself forgetting it and listening to something unless until I was bored and wanted to listen to it again. The individual parts were great! But when combine it was just good. Something to pick up if your looking for an in between for other books.

Entertaining

Would you consider the audio edition of Forgotten Enemy to be better than the print version?

I would absolutely agree that the audio version is more enjoyable than the print version of this book.

What did you like best about this story?

Call me weird, but I like the foreshadowing and unanswered questions. It makes me want to read the next book, even though I felt like this one had good closure.

What does Mikael Naramore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He makes it so smooth. I would often get caught up in overly complicated sentences while trying to read it, but he did a phenomenal job making everything make sense.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

My favorite part of the book was a scene when two of the main characters went out hiking and met up with a wolf pack.

Great characters

I got a free copy of this book in return for a review.
This is a GREAT first book for a beginning author and trilogy. I can't give it five stars because, let's be honest, it's not perfect. But how many books are? If you let go of a few little things, I think you'll really enjoy the story and characters.
Listen to this book knowing it is the beginning of an epic trilogy full of good v evil, personal growth, and diverse characters. While there are a few unanswered questions at the end of Forgotten Enemy, making you WANT more, it can definitely stand on its own. It has its own storyline and resolution (unlike some trilogies out there).
I really enjoyed that Forgotten Enemy has a little bit of everything (romance, humor, drama, action) - just like life. There is something for everyone, especially if you like supernatural stories!
Lastly, The narrator does an awesome job bringing this book to life! I've read it and listened to it, and listening was much easier. I'd also give him five stars, but I personally didn't love his female voices. However, his male characters and everything else (inflection and pauses) were spot on!
I can't wait for books two and three!
