Publisher's summary

Eva Leigh launches a seductive new series that sizzles with the dark secrets of London's underworld....

Years ago the Duke of Greyland gave his heart - and a princely sum of money - to a charming, destitute widow with unparalleled beauty. But after one passionate night, she slipped from his bed and vanished without a trace. And just when he's given up hope of ever seeing her again, Greyland finds her managing a gaming hell. He's desperate to have her...until he discovers everything about his long-lost lover was a lie.

In truth Cassandra Blake grew up on the streets, picking pockets to survive. Greyland was a mark - to be fleeced and forgotten - but her feelings for the duke became all too real. Once he learns of her deception, however, the heat in his eyes turns to ice. When her business partner absconds with the gaming hell proceeds - leaving unsavory investors out for blood - Cassandra must beg the man she betrayed for help.

Greyland wants compensation, too, and he'll assist her under one condition: She doesn't leave his sight until her debts are paid. But it's not long before the real Cassandra - the smart, streetwise criminal - is stealing his heart all over again.

Quite good

I liked it. Fairly predictable but the hero and heroine were generally like able. This author does seem to like wild lascivious masked balls:). The steam was just right in my opinion and didn’t take over the story. It is nice that her heroines aren’t virgins and that’s okay (at least in the two books I’e read so far). In my opinion, the narrator was good. Women’s voices were feminine but not cute or breathy and the men’s voices were believable. Typical story of the gutter snipe girl who catches the eye of the titled gentleman (almost like the movie the Lady Eve but definitely darker). It was totally engaging overall and I listened in one day. I used a credit and don’t feel bad about it. I have to say I liked the first volunteer of Wicked Quills trilogy a bit better but I will continue reading this author. The dialogue is good and the heroine’s feisty. Not totally believable but this is regency romance after all.

Good but least favorite of the 3 books

The story was interesting. Having read Book 2 and 3 first, I had to read the first just to know the story. Had I read this one first I might have liked it better but the other two books were so good this one paled in comparison.

esta bien

I guess this book was ok. I didn't finish it. I didn't like the way the story was playing out. The heroin was being forced to do things she didn't want to do. Just not my cup of tea.

Too many inner thoughts!

Unfortunately, this was an aggravating book. Excellent Narration by Faye Adele though!

This could have been a 5 star story, but no. The author had to fill the pages with inner thoughts and thoughts and thoughts. It ended up being a 3 star story. I had to take away 2 stars for all "creative" ways the author repeated these two main characters thoughts. It was so aggravating I was yelling "stop thinking the same things in a different way"!

I really loved the characters and story line. There was some good stuff happening (in between the pages of thoughts) that was interesting. I liked Cassandra and Greyland together, they did make a good match. Cassandra ended up being a surprise I didn't expect (no spoilers here).

Like I said it could have been a 5 star+ story but the author just couldn't stop with the abundance unnecessary repeated thoughts and it really brought the book down. A lot more dialogue between the characters would have been so much better.

As for the narration, it was excellent! I love Faye Adele and wished she narrated more books. She is good with the men's voices and has a fantastic reading voice. She reads with emotion and does accents very well. Loved the narration!
