Publisher's summary

Fisher,

I guess this is it, huh? After 14 years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments, and countless letters I've written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I've always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you'd changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you'd been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you'd find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you've told me, this one hurts the most. Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested. I hope you find what you're looking for. I'm sorry it wasn't me.

Lucy

To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they'll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.

This is not a drill- the author, narrators, and story are a "listen to me now"!!

Seriously guys- this journey, narrated by the wonderful Andi Arndt and smoldering Zachary Webber, should not be passed upon. I'm so very, very glad I took a shot on this book even though I wasn't loving the cover and the blurb didn't exactly reach out to me. It was absolutely fantastic. The journey of Fisher and Lucy was heart wrenching and heart warming. It was sweet, it was harsh, -ugh- just everything!!! I am doing a re-listen already but wish I could experience it for the first time again.
Please be advised that Fisher does experience flashbacks from his time in the service as a PTSD victim, but I do not foresee any stressors for anyone. There is no violence against the heroine.

Wonderful

Absolutely loved every minute. I ended up listening to this book in one sitting. Story was very well written, and Zachery Webber and Andi Arndt, did an amazing job yet again with the narration. I highly recommend this book.

3.5 Stars

There was so much going for this book - the high school turned forever romance, the anguishing portrayal of PTSD, the heartbreaking domestic quarreling - but then the ending kind of ruined it for me. I won't dismiss all that I felt was strong writing and wonderful characterizations, but the OTT, dramatic ending lowered my rating. It was one thing stacked upon another until it formed a crazy histrionic pile, nearly erasing all of the great that came before it. Like I mentioned, I won't dismiss the compelling story prior to the ending, but I wish the author would have stuck with the strength of the ongoing healing and restoration of a broken marriage, rather than resorting to OTT dramatics.

Great story of hope after heartbreak!!!

I enjoyed this book and the way it took on a real life struggle many military families are going through and brought forth something beautiful. Not all families get the happy ending unfortunately but this story gives readers the understanding of how serious PTSD really is. I love how the characters were able to each work through the pain and find their way back to each other. The narrator's were excellent as always. This book is worth a credit guys.

Brilliant writing and narration!

Wow, this poignant second chance romance was so beautifully emotional and sexy! It also included some perfectly place levity, which I so needed at times! This tale was expertly crafted, moving sinuously between present and past scenes that kept me completely captivated from start to finish. I was also fascinated when the same scene was told from different characters pov and how two people can remember the same event so differently. I admired how Ms Sivec portrayed a difficult subject with honesty and empathy and how she made me appreciate what our soldiers and their families go through. I really cared for both Lucy and Fisher and loved how they evolved and grew from the high school sweethearts to the adults they are now. Both narrators skillfully brought the story and characters to life making me feel like I was there with them on the island. I was totally lost in the realism of their storytelling. I loved every minute of this book and can't recommend it highly enough!

Not just the Average Romance

Those of you with a loved one that has been deployed may find this hard to listen to, I found it very interesting with it not being the boy meets girl story, but an actual true to life story of present day challenges

sappy love story with some hot scenes

I really never liked Lucy because despite her devotion to Fischer, her fear and lack of faith in the end nearly cost her his love and his life. I don't understand how, knowing his fragile state and history, she could react as she did. the strong heroine of the beginning became a sad mess.
otherwise it's a decent story with much angst, good character development and a nice performance.

Really good, interesting story.

My only complaint is that the end was anticlimactic. Their problems were solved too early in the book. As a military wife, I could really relate to this. Great narration!

Get the tissues and your heart ready ❤️

This is, by far, the best book I have read to date. My chest swelled and ached for the entire narration. Andi and Zachary did an outstanding job on this, as usual. I cried tears of happiness and sadness in almost every chapter. Tara Sivec did a superb job of describing everything and making me feel like I was standing there watching it all unfold before my eyes. This is a book I will visit over and over again and it will help bring me back to my own feelings in my relationship when I feel I may be losing my way. Bravo to everyone involved in helping this story come to life. It’s my favorite audiobook to date.
