Publisher's summary

Some universal truths refuse to be ignored. Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don't go for girls like Cam Emerson. She knew from the second she met him that he didn't belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf - the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wasted Words, as her stomping ground. Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She's made it perfectly clear she's not interested in him - not like that at least - but if she ever changes her mind, he won't hesitate. Because he doesn't see the lines she's drawn between them, as much as she insists that they're there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they're a match well made.

Feel good book

Any additional comments?

While this book was utterly predictable, the narration was good and it kept me interested. I did feel a little bit like Tyler was too perfect and that felt unrealistic to me, but I listened to it quickly and enjoyed it. If you're in the mood for a feel good romance post-college aged then this is for you! Just don't expect any crazy twists.

I loved this book!

I was in need of finding a book that wasn’t so heavy and gave hope. This book was so cute. I loved the story so much. Would totally recommend!

Finally

I have to wait long periods of time to find a book that is narrated in this manner. I was so overjoyed when I found it. Jason and Kristen did a remarkable job in their narration. I would love to listen to more books read by them in this manner. The story itself was slow and I really did not care for it much but the narration made it worth listening to. Wish there were more books read in this manner. I miss listening to books. I just do not like hearing females trying to sound like men and men trying to sound like women. Well worth a listen.

Toss up

Ok, I love me some Staci Hart and this book was no different. Lots of sweet and sexy and medium angst.

This wasn't my favorite tho because Cam (the heroine) was super whiny and it was kind of much ado about nothing.

That being said, I totally listened to the whole thing and Tyler was freakin hot and adorable and confident and so incredibly sweet to Cam that I would listen over and over just to get more Tyler.

Jason Clarke and Kirsten Leigh are fantastic narrators. Love them. However I loathe duet narration or conversational narration or whatever it is called. BUT if you are going to listen to one, this is a great one to listen to. They do a great job with it. I just wish it didn't exist. 😉

non-growly Jason Clarke but loved iiiit

Jason made the MMC so vulnerable, my heart ached whenever he spoke and pined for the MFC! And finally a beta kind of hero! I will def. relisten to his lines! It was so interesting, bc normally Jason does alphas and I f..n loved him as a beta! not that beta but not alpha either! Not a growly alphahole for a change :)

As for the story, the MFC was a brat by questioning his feelings all the time, but as one with the same doubts all my life, I could totally relate to her and I felt for them..but the third act conflict was just so...predictable and the solution too easy, but I enjoyed this book totally :)

My woulds would be wasted

no description can do the story Justice. This is probably, hands down, my favorite 20-something love story. It had just the right mix of stereotyping and breaking the mold. the only negative thing I can possibly say about this story, is the fact that the girl narrator reading could not pronounce Inuyasha, Dalek, and I think one other nerd reference. But the fact that this book even references those things that all makes up for it LOL

Loved the narration!

I really enjoyed this book. I've read all the books in this series and love them! Highly recommend! But what I loved most was the narration. Both narrators did a great job! I like books with alternating pov's and I like dual narration. This book took that a step further and had the girl narrate every time a girl character spoke even during the boys pov, and the same for him. It felt like listening to a real conversation instead of hearing a girl try to sound like a guy or a guy try to sound like a girl. I wish more audiobooks were narrated this way!

Loved it!

This is a modern twist on Emma, and I loved it! Not going to lie, the heroine’s neurotic thoughts and behaviors could be a little much, but that just made the conflict more believable. Hart pulls no punches, and at times, the h is every bit as much of a know-it-all busybody as the original Emma, which makes her beautifully flawed.

Tyler’s character is straight up delicious. Just as with Mr. Knightley, he can, at times, be almost “too” perfect, but in this twist, Cam recognizes that perfection as a source of conflict. In her mind, he’s simply too good for her.

Jason Clarke’s narration was phenomenal. Ms. Hart should just go ahead and have him narrate alllllll her steamy scenes from now on, because 🔥🔥🔥. He’s also gifted at doing other character’s voices, timing and showing emotion. His scenes, particularly the further emotionally invested the character becomes, feel so real and raw. He delivers lines that might sound over the top from someone else, and, instead, they feel heart-clenchingly sincere and romantic.

The loss of one star, for me, is for the female narrator, who, while she does a mostly good job, does stumble several times. I was sucked from the story a couple of times to literally exclaim aloud in irritation at her painful mispronunciations. Cam is a “nerd girl” who sells comic books, yet the narrator didn’t bother to check pronunciations for unfamiliar characters and terms. She gets the name of an animae series wrong (several painful times), she calls a dahlek a “day-lik” and even mispronounced Mordor. From one nerd girl reading about another nerd girl, I was irritated at the lack of professionalism. And though she wasn’t hard to listen to, she just doesn’t match Jason Clarke’s level of investment and commitment to the writing. She nails the neurotic scenes and a particular scene with a drunk girl is hilariously on pointe. But as the story progresses to the last several chapters, the prose sits right on the razor’s edge between romantic as hell or downright schmaltzy. Jason Clarke delivers romance. He sounds sincere and heartfelt. The h’s performance, on the other hand, sounds cheesy and unnatural. When she quotes the hobbit saying that if they are going to burn, then they will burn together, you don’t hear Cam. You hear a narrator who sounds awkward and like she thinks the whole thing is just embarrassing to read. Which is so unfortunate...because she doesn’t “get” this character or the overtly romantic nature of the book. So, I deducted a point for professionalism and general lack of investment on the part of the woman. She doesn’t do anything consistently annoying/ no weird verbal tics, no lip smacking or mic popping. Just not the best performance for this particular character.

I still highly recommend this book.
