Publisher's summary

You know that group of people in school that everyone fears? Popular. Beautiful. The in-crowd?

That was my family. Kind of. We were above that group. We held court over everyone else. We were the best looking. We were the mysterious and elusive ones. Most of the girls wanted to (and did) date the guys, but they didn't want to be one of us. They couldn't be. They were our prey.

We were the feared.

But like every family, nothing is as it seems. That was my truth. Kellan was in his own league. He was our leader and he was the one no one messed with. No one dared. He was ruthless, powerful, and no one could match him. Except for me.

I was about to find out just how different I was from my family.

2.5 stars

This is part of my Audible Romance package and piqued my interest, so I gave it a shot.   First off why it is rated on the steam level of  Hot Damn is beyond me.  It’s between sweet and simmering.  Now mind you I generally read adult books and yes erotica too.  So this book is beyond tame.  Now for a teen, I guess it could be oh Hot Damn.  It would depend on your point of view.

The story is centered around Shay and her weird family who are basically feared from the entire town.  I honestly thought when I read it.  Please don’t be vampires, please don’t be vampires.   I was so pleased when that wound up not being the cause of the supernatural powers.  RELIEVED.

The story started well but honestly, fell apart for me once Shay and Kellan took off on their road trip.  I listened to this on audiobook, and It almost seemed like the narrator was bored with it too.

I do think this is suited to ages 16 to early ’20s.  I think that age group will get more enjoyment out of this than an adult will.  Especially if said adult likes books with more mature content.

I devoured book

I loved this book. I forgot how much I loved paranormal. Tijan just reminded me with this standalone love story, because yes, it is a love story, amongst other things. Demons and messengers, good versus evil. The Bradons were a force to be reckoned with, siblings that backed each other up and protected one another. But all is not as it seems. Shay lives her life thinking she is something that she isn't, and believing that Kellan is her half sibling. He isn't, thankfully, because they are super hot together, and as soon as I realised they weren't related, I was rooting for them. Big time. Shay is part messenger and Kellan is part demon, yet they have a bond, they are soulmates and together they are strong. They need that strength to ward off all that is bad. Both demons and messengers are after their power, they must fight together to overcome evil. Along the way they meet some really interesting characters and as the plot thickens the threats increase. As I've come to expect from Tijan, this is beautifully written and I will soon be purchasing a hard copy to adorn my bookshelf. Highly recommend to all paranormal fans, and of course all Tijan fans.

Felt very YA

This is a very mild YA fantasy book. Not the style of book I typically listen to, but it came recommended in the romance section, and it did not list it as YA.

Horrible

This book was horrible. The plot, the writing style, the characters... were all lacking. I must be the only person who hated this book.

Eh. It was okay.

Predictable. Flat, static main characters. If you want to listen to a "no brainer" story, this is good for that.

Great Read

Evil was another great read by Tijan. This book is a full length paranormal romance stand alone. Shay and her family are the popular kids in school. But they also held court over everyone else. The are mysterious and elusive. The group is feared. Kellan is the leader of the group and someone that no one messed with. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
