Publisher's summary

I’m the guy you call when you need to impress your overbearing family, your boss, or your ex. Yeah, I’m a male escort, but not just any escort, I’m the escort. The one with a mile-long waiting list and a pristine reputation that’s very well-deserved.

I’m the guy who’ll make you feel beautiful, desired, and worshipped...all for a steep price. I’m hired to make you shine, and I always deliver.

I’ll be whatever you want me to be for one night - except my true self. This is just a job, a role I play to earn a paycheck.

But I’m not the guy who falls for a client. Not once in six years.

And then I meet Elle. Her friend has hired me to escort her to a wedding, but Elle doesn’t know we’re just pretending.

There’s a fire between us I never expected. A connection I haven’t felt in so long. One kiss, and I’m losing all control.

But what will happen when she finds out who I really am?

From fake to forever

Written by Kendall Ryan and narrated by Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon, Boyfriend for Hire is a contemporary romance that has an escort named Nic Evans falling for the woman he's been hired to keep company. What starts off as a fake becomes forever for Nic and his Elle (who doesn't have a last name mentioned in the story), but as expected, there's a whole lot of stuff they need to contend with before they actually get their happily-ever-after.

This is the first in an untitled series of standalones and everything pretty much plays out the way you would think but with Kendall Ryan adding her own creative touch to it. I know some readers didn't like that he was with other women, but the guy IS an escort and being with other women is part of his job. I appreciated the author not glossing over that fact but also not delving too deeply into it either. Nic is essentially a good guy and being an escort is merely what pays his bills and not his life's ambition.

There's a degree of naivete when it comes to Elle, but she was also a woman who embraced her sexuality and I liked that about her. Together, she and Nic shared a believable connection, and Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke did a really fantastic job bringing these two to life. I'm giving four stars for the story and five stars for the performance, which averages to 4.5 stars overall for Boyfriend for Hire. ♥

I detest most of Erin Mallon’s narrations

Ugh! There’s been 1 or 2 books where she’s narrated without the sing song habit she has, and with that horribly sharp “uh” sound at the end of each word. Sadly this is another 1 of many books that’s she’s ruined. I just find myself getting angrier that I’ve been tricked again in wasting a credit. Damn you Erin MALLON!!! 😜☹️🙃
She actually does it a little less in this book so I may be able to power through.

Update: nope on chapter 13 and can’t listen to one more word from Erin Mallon. I can’t get over how horrible and annoying her narration is. And drink some damn water Erin! I’m constantly clearing my own throat while listening to your scratchy hoarse voice.

enjoyed the story

I really enjoyed the story, but was distracted by the female narrators exaggerated ending to her phrasing. The male narrator was good and had a great speech flow.

So good!!!

Funny, sweet, sexy - this is perfection! I love this authors humor and the way she writes banter, it's fantastic. Narration was really well done too! Highly recommend!

Great listen!

I have been waiting for this one to be released, and was pleased to get today. I love both of these narrators, especially Erin Mallon. Pretty well anything she narrates is an automatic download for me, and the dual narration with Jason Clarke and a title by Kendall Ryan made this worth a credit!
This story has a bit more depth to it than one may think by just reading the descrption (don't dismiss it at being too shallow or superficial)...but at the same time, it's not an intense story line either. It's just great for when you need a time out, a few laughs, several swoons, some sexy hotness thrown in here and there, followed by the HEA.
I love how the characters meet and have this instant chemistry, but he keeps holding back, which naturally is frustrating to her. He does all the right things, but she receives some information a bit prematurely. And the struggles are real! But they were sometimes...real 👍!
**Oooh, and there is bonus goodies thrown in at the end for good measure...to make sure we come back for the NEXT listen to follow this one as well. And I might add that they were NOT all that stingy with how much bonus material was given! Usually you get just a snipet to lure you in. Nope, you are left with some waaay good stuff and I can't wait to now get a hold of this next one to see how things go with Kase! Yum!

Erin Mallon's narration is terrible

The constant inflection is utter garbage. when she impersonates others she doesnt do it and reads the book like a normal human. For some reason she inflections most sentences and sometimes multiple words in the same sentence in a way that feels like this whole book is a joke. It is so unnatural to speak in this manner. Her chapters were terrible.

The story is pretty good and Jason's narration is also pleasant. I feel guilty giving the performance a 1 star as Jason deserves more like 4 stars. Kendall, your book deserves better. Erin ruined the story for me.

The voice

It physically pained me to hear this female reading this book. I made a point of remembering her name. I'll never ever listen to anything she narrates. She stretches her last word and is overly breathy. I couldn't even finish the book

Not your typical romance story

If you thinking this will be a redemption story about a man who is so caught up in his ways that being an escort is the best job in the world for him. This story is far from it. It's a beautiful story of finding yourself in the lowest moments and celebrating life.
Ryan has written some of my favourite books and this one join the ranks. Elle isn't a cookie cutter heroine , she may have a little chip on her shoulder about her body but she is gorgeous inside and out. Perfect for our hero who just needs a sweet girl like Elle to break him out his funk.
The blurb may paint a picture of Nic being this suave guy who knows all the tricks. However there is much to more to the story and I loved his journey of seeking a new beginning . It was sweet and fun the whole way. I want more from this couple as their HEA is not enough. As the adventure is only the beginning for them. As for the narrotors, I believe this my first time with this pairing I could be wrong though. I thought they did a good job with the performance and bring these two sweet characters to life making this book perfect.

Good

Story was really good, I enjoyed it very much!

Jason Clarke knocked it out of the park! 5 Star Performance

Erin Mallon was good but after a while it gets annoying having to listen to elongated syllables in every single word that is read. Not sure if I'll get the next Audiobook in the series, I might just stick to the book only.

Not My Favorite

I was very excited when I heard the male narrator, but once I hear the females voice it was a turn off for me. I like how it was two different voices per gender but I wasn't a fan of the way she portrayed her voice. Also, I feel like the story was too short with not enough detail and plot twists. Not a hit for me but I can understand how some people could like it.
