Publisher's summary

Opposites attract in the third Ace Security novel from New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker.

Bailey Hampton will do whatever it takes to keep both herself and her little brother safe from the vicious Inca Boyz gang. Hiding out in Castle Rock, Colorado, is only a temporary solution until she can earn enough money to get out of the state altogether. But when she meets handsome security nerd Nathan Anderson, she discovers a reason to stay and fight for what she wants.

Ace Security's Nathan Anderson has always been the "numbers guy," not the man any of the firm's clients look to when their safety is threatened. But from the first time he ran into Bailey, she never made him feel like less of a protector than his brothers. Nathan was attracted to the petite, black-haired pixie with wild tattoos from the start, and by some miracle, she seems to return his interest.

But danger stalks Bailey and her brother, so it's up to Nathan to channel his inner alpha and find a way to end the threat to their lives once and for all - and he's not giving up Bailey without a fight.

Nathan has been searching for Bailey for months. Fate intervene and sends Bailey to help Nathan.

In order to put an end to the Inca Boys gang, Ace Security needs to find Bailey. After Bailey sees and helps Nathan start his unreliable car, she hands him her card from the repair garage where she works. On the other side of the card he is stunned to see the woman has written her name, Bailey. Positive she is the one he has been searching for he takes his car to have it fixed by her. He had felt instant attraction towards her and that feeling increases each time they get together. He takes an interest in Jole her 10 year old brother also. The poor kid has problems from the time he and Bailey spent with the Inca Boys and especially under the terrible control of Donovan the leader of the Inca Boys. Donovan has been paroled and it's no secret he wants his property, Bailey and Jole back. Along with the rest of Ace Security they set a plan in motion. Nathan is the kindest most sensitive man just what Bailey needs. He is also a great role model for her Jole. Enjoyed the narration.

Solid addition to a great series

I really enjoyed Bailey and Nathan's story. It was sweet, funny, sexy and had enough twists to keep you listening, It also lets you see what is happening to the other characters from the previous books. I am a Susan Stoker fan and have liked all of her series so I was glad this one was no exception. You will get the most out of it from starting at the beginning of the series, but this is fine to as a stand alone. On a personal note, I got some ink in my younger years I was not proud of so I totally identified with that story point.

Abusive

This whole series is upsettingly detailed about rape and abuse of women without properly identifying those issues. Why is this in a romance novel? Poor character development. Misogynistic leading men. Men controlling when and how sex happens in not romantic. This isn’t giving voice to survivors it’s yelling women to put up with more abuse for “true love”.

Not For Me. Distressing and Depressing

I read for enjoyment and relaxation. This book was really more than I wanted to deal with. I could have happily done without hearing some of the graphic abuses done to Bailey.

There were some things that I felt were positive. That included the many conversations Nate had with Joel about his behavior towards Bailey, the things that Donovan forced him to watch and do, as well as the discussions he had trying to correct Joel's general attitude about women. I also liked that Nate found Joel professional help.

I don't know if the same was done for Bailey. I appreciated that Nate tried to be an uplifting voice for Bailey, but that woman needed professional assistance. I skimmed through some of the book, so I may have missed it if she finally got help.

There wasn't anything romantic about their relationship or this book to me. I liked both characters, but they seemed so beaten and lacking self esteem that nothing made me have any good or uplifting feelings. I didn't get any sense of chemistry between them. I only got the good friends vibe.

I know I am struggling trying to explain how this book made me feel. It was depressing. The chapter where Donovan reappeared was both distressing and depressing.

I was also not very impressed with the narration.
I am not saying EVERYTHING about this book was negative, but I felt like the negativity was overwhelming. I like to feel good after finishing a book. Even with the positive ending with Nate, Bailey, and Joel, it wasn't enough to erase the negativity. It could just be that I am sick of women and children being used and abused in so many books.

Love when the underdogs win

I really like the story, because Nathan was the quiet nerd, and I loved when he met Bailey and even though things went fast with them I did like them together where she was the more experience, and she could help him, and he could help her where he could. The best part of the story that I liked was when he did those nice things for brother Joel. I love the way he’s training him in school work and talk to him about certain things. Those are the best things I’d liked from the book and of course it ended happening, so what else can you ask for?

So cute!!

Nathan is by far my favorite of the Anderson brothers. I love that he is a big nerd. Him and Bailey are so perfect together and Joel is just adorable. Nathan and Bailey had amazing chemistry and their love just felt organic and nothing happens too quickly. This was my favorite book in the series so far and I can’t wait to read the next one. Erin Bennet did great as always bringing the story alive.

Swoons, healing and danger

I loved, loved Nathan and Bailey’s he falls first, nerd, healing romance. The suspense was well balanced with the romance which created a perfect contrast in this heartwarming, steamy, exciting, dangerous, and healing story. I was feeling all the big feelings with this one along with Nathan and Bailey. They are both such wounded souls that need love and healing and I loved that they found that with each other. Nathan is a fraternal triplet who was physically abused by his mother. After his mother murders his father, he and his brothers returned to their hometown to start Ace Security to help other abused people. Bailey is the former girlfriend of Donovan, the head of the Inca Boyz gang. She escaped when Donovan’s behavior towards her younger brother, Joel, became scary and wildly inappropriate. They are living and hiding in the same small town where Nathan lives. Nathan has been looking for Bailey as a result of the two previous run-ins Ace security had with the Inca Boyz (books 1 and 2) but their meeting is the result of fate rather than good detective work. The more time Nathan, Bailey and Joel spend together, the closer they become, but the danger from the Donovan is coming. The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as shown through sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, dangerous situations, uber protective men, and all the love. Joel was a such wonderful and integral addition to the story rather than a flimsy story prop. The story would not have been as rich and well rounded without the full development and inclusion of his character and the growth for Nathan and Bailey that stemmed from interactions with him. I can’t wait read the next book in the series.

Erin Bennett did a good job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters fairly convincingly.

Not my usual romance hero, but loved anyway!

I can't say much without spoilers, but this book has twists on the usual romance story lines. The main characters are not quite like any in the couple hundred romance novels I have listened to in the last few years, and I loved it!
